Please excuse Brenda's absence. She had a paper cut from the book she was reading.

Kirsten, check Message 88 in this thread please. If I'm right, I think you now have a tie.

Lisa (ylisa7) | 381 comments No paper cuts here since all of you are helping me clean up my kindle mess, lol.

Looks like I will be reading Ash. It seems I will be reading uncharted territories until I get through a chunk of books.

I have voted Shutter Island, but don't think my name is down on your lists

message 158: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Thanks Sean, that pretty much solidifies S.I.'s lead. Looks like that's what I'll be reading next month :)

Perri | -43 comments In my July PIFM, an Inspector Banks novel, I was wondering how common Banks is as a surname. I only know one other family with the name Banks, and they are fictitious too ;)

Not related, I'm reading a Kindle book I bought which I rarely do, but I keep coming upon highlighted sentences often multiply highlighted. Who is highlighting, why do they show up in my books, and can I do it too? :)
edit:I found the highlighting and search options. If I do it,will is show up in other people's downloads? I feel like I bought a used textbook

Ernie Banks of the old Chicago Cubs, Jos Banks the clothier, and wasn't the family in Mary Poppins named Banks?

message 163: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments THanks for the hint Agnieszka, I'll play around more with it

Oh, I forgot about Ernie. Mary Poppins was the one I was thinking of :)

My grandmother's local florist is Carl Banks. There's Tyra Banks (the model/actress), Elizabeth Banks (actress in The Hunger Games), Iain Banks (author). Banks was also the name of the fictional family in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air :)

Kelby *TwistedCactusReads* (twistedcactusreads) Well, Blindsighted (Grant County, #1) by Karin Slaughter won by a landslide so that's what I will be reading!!!

message 167: by Perri (new)

Yes, they were named Banks, re the question about the family in Mary Poppins.

Placed an order for the book about King Edward I via Interlibrary Loan for my August PIFM. Might not get a chance to post my September list until Monday, the 3rd. Gonna be "chicken with its head cut off" busy Saturday.

message 171: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments Mandy's vote gave me an 8 to 8 tie. "No Time for Goodbye" and "Hunger Games".
Now which to read first.....

message 173: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Kirsten if you want to set up a new poll btwn the Reds book :P and the Jackie Robinson book, I choose Double Play :)

E. Hunger Games! Do you do all your banking online? We don't have direct deposit for the paycheck, but I don't mind going in-often free goodies and it's got a/c

message 174: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments My salary goes to a debit card, and I pay all my bills through apps. On the rare occasion I need cash I get 'cash back' at walgreens or 7-11. Life is easy til I lose my phone or card!

message 175: by Brenda (new)

Brenda | 2434 comments My winning book, with 10 votes, is Twisted!

Runner-up, with 8 votes, is The Crucifix Killer, which I also plan to read in August.

Thanks everyone!

message 176: by Christine (last edited Jul 31, 2015 04:24PM) (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments I have Twisted to read too, Brenda. My PIFM book is The Boy In The Woods. The Boy In The Woods by Carter Wilson that won by one vote over I Let You Go. I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh

Reading and enjoying my August PITFM !

message 181: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I started one of my PIFMs: Double Play by Robert B. Parker and am really enjoying it. One of the nice things is that between every chapter Robert Parker places a small item of what he remembered from that time. He was 15 in 1947 when Jackie Robinson broke the color line.

E. | 653 comments Almost finished with The Hunger Games. I'm really immersed in this world. I may have withdrawal when I'm finished.
I may never have read this if it hadn't won (tied)

Some of these YA books are surprisingly good. I really enjoyed The Hunger Games.

message 189: by Perri (new)

Perri | -43 comments Totally agree, Patricia-some of the best books I've read are YA. Currently reading Boo. And you're welcome E ;)

message 190: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments re:YA the first YA I (knowingly) read was Unwind, and I enjoyed it so much I read a few more good ones. I've since added many to my TBR shelf.
So many are dystopian, or involve psychological /emotional issues, but as hopeless as the subject matter may be there is always hope throughout.
When I was actually a YA I read such things as Go Ask Alice, Flowers In The Attic, Carrie, which in some ways are similar, but I don't remember any hope, only the darkness.

The YA books really shouldn't be considered inferior books. It just means they're suitable for young adults. (And you're only as old as you feel)

message 193: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I've figured out my them for September! What do you think?

"books I probably should have read before I graduated high school"

I thought it would be appropriate as September is Back to School Month.

My mother caught me reading some of them under a tree in our yard. She wasn't happy.

I know the feeling. Read The Darkest Minds Trilogy The Darkest Minds after the Hunger Games. The good news is it's absolutely brilliant and I think I liked it more than the Hunger games even.

The bad news is that the withdrawal will most definitely be worse. So yeah uh sorry.

message 199: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Earlier this year I read the Marid Audran trilogy. When I finished the final book, I nearly cried knowing that it was finished and I wouldn't visit Marid any more unless I re-read it.

When Gravity Fails (The Budayeen Cycle, 1) by George Alec Effinger A Fire in the Sun (The Budayeen Cycle, 2) by George Alec Effinger The Exile Kiss (The Budayeen Cycle, 3) by George Alec Effinger

message 200: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments Celeste, I've already marked Darkest Minds TBR. Perhaps I'll move it up the list!

I tend to binge-read sequels when I like the first in series. Sometimes it's a relief when the second or third installment is not as entertaining as the first. I'm a bit of a commitmentphobe by nature.

It's conflicting.
