Janet, you know you can place a vote for anybody/everybody without doing a pick it list for yourself. That could create a tie for me. Then I think there is someone designated to break ties, isn't there? (-:
Yeah, me!! I'm the tie breaker!! It's fine, I'm just happy to see participation!! Great to get new members on board.
I haven't had time to take part for a couple of months, but I have just voted. Great to see more members joining in :~)
Oops sorry put this in the wrong thread originally, I have a tie Janet, could you break it please?
I've also updated my votes :)
Christine wrote: "Don't you love it when it's close? I have a tie going on now too!"I do Chris, this is my third month participating and the first two I had a book win by a landslide. I have a three way tie and I cant wait to see which one wins
You know I am Chris, Ice Twins is now up by one vote. If no one else votes that's my winner. Do you know when the thread closes for the month?
It's quite a nice chat. I just discovered it and read all of it at once and had pretty much fun.I joined yesterdy and I'm really happy to see I wasn't the last one yuppie.
BTW, thanks for all the votes some of you are pretty fast. :-)
I'm finally getting around to my PIFM July pick which was In a Dry Season an Inspector Banks Mystery by Peter Robinson, but I thought I'd start with the books my library own to make sure it's worth an ILL, so I'm reading Final Account -wow that's a long sentence :)
Janet wrote: "Haven't read it. Not even heard of it. Just sounded like a fairly good premise."I read it and liked it a lot, Janet. Good pick for Kim.
Perri wrote: "I'm finally getting around to my PIFM July pick which was In a Dry Season an Inspector Banks Mystery by Peter Robinson, but I thought I'd start with the books my library has to make sure it's worth..."What is ILL, Perri?
Oh, an Inter-Library loan. I can request books my smallish library doesn't have from wherever is closest from all over the country. How do you get most of your books?
I absolutely LOVE interlibrary loan! Most of my books come from my own state. It's a great way to find books.
From a real mix, Perri. My library if they have it, but I seem to be on Kindle (or Kindle iPad) more and more. Those books I buy (usually don't buy if over $5.00), get from author or get from Net Galley.
I should try that. Our library could get stuff from the Twin Cities. Much of the stuff I have read this year isn't in the libraries though.
I try my library first, then the library's Overdrive site, then Kindle or Audible. Depending on cost, I may resort to buying it used through a local bookstore (or at Better World Books) or ordering via ILL.
Oh, and I have bought some used paperbacks from Amazon, most of which were 1 penny plus $3.99 postage. A good deal.
Kirsten, me too! I always look to see where my books come from and it's usually Bellingham with WWU and Seattle second. My farthest came from NC! I have to get some books on Kindle like White is the Coldest COlor and the Marson's book. I don't know about Overdrive, tell me more. Christine, I hear a lot of good buzz @ Net Galley, but I don't want to be tempted to add more books to my ever expanding TBR list. Plus I don't like the pressure to review a book, although I always do. Hm. And stopped trying for most books on First Reads-Ive gotten some dogs, but feel some pressure to be positive. If I'm in a bind for time, I will buy used books on Amazon :)

You just have to ask your local library.
It usually has most books. Mine even has childrens books and graphic novels. Overdrive even has an app for my Kindle Fire and smartphone.
I am currently on a Net Galley hiatus for the very same reasons, Perri. I am getting weary of time pressure. I do have Broken Promise to read that I asked for in April. I won 4 Giveaways fairly quickly when I first joined, but none in over a year. I still try though. (-:
Thanks Kirsten, I'll look into that! Christine, I only enter the ones when they know it's on my TBR list. I must have invited to and entered The Ice Twins , ack four times? I should take it off my TBR list in spite ;)
Those Ice Twins think they're all that and a Popsicle. I tell you what, Tremayne et al. I have plenty other fine books to read in my TBR!! ;)
My not so flattering review of The Ice Twins is my most popular review to date. I must average about 2 likes a week. Bizarre!!
To my GB friends:So in my Inspector Banks book, Banks says, "Dancing? The casino?" "Yes, He loves a flutter, does Robert. It worried me sometimes the way he'd go through a hundred or more some nights."
So is a flutter a bet?
Perri wrote: "Oh, an Inter-Library loan. I can request books my smallish library doesn't have from wherever is closest from all over the country. My votes are all up to date now. Boy, take a couple days off and look at all the activity! Two pages just in this thread!
Janet wrote: "My not so flattering review of The Ice Twins is my most popular review to date. I must average about 2 likes a week. Bizarre!!"I think people like to read the bad reviews more. They're usually more entertaining.

A "flutter" is a small bet.
When I see words like that, I try and look 'em up. Most times though, I can figure it out via context.
Also, I'm always watching British mysteries on PBS. So I've picked up a little British slang.
