Char My friend Kimberly and I were talking about doing a buddy read for Robert McCammon's Stinger in about a week or so. We were wondering if anyone here would be willing to join us?
I was thinking of creating a thread right here in the RM group if we have any takers.
Please post back if you're interested. :)
(I hope this is ok with the mods here.)

Shana Shippee | 4 comments Yes, that would be great. McCammon is my hero and my all time favorite author but I have never been able to make it through Stinger. I have started it at least a dozen times but always only get about 6 chapters in.Buddy read sounds helpful...

message 3: by Jeanne (new)

Jeanne I am interested! Let me know start!

No problem Charlene good idea.
As September approaches, midway or first few weeks, we could have votes again, until any votes are put out I can add it as group read for now till mid September.

Pamellia (michiganparents) | 109 comments Oh, goodness me! I thought for a minute I was excluded...glad I figured out how to join, because I was feeling so left out...lol

So...Charlene, are you going to sound the gun at the start line?

message 15: by Paul (new)

Paul Martinez | 25 comments Alright -- so a time for a meet? What's the homework assignment? First two chapters? First three? And where/how do we meet? I guess your the organizer/leader Charlene.

message 16: by Char (new)

Char Ummm, I guess so! LOL

From the Amazon page, it looks like it's about 540 pages or so. Perhaps we could discuss 100 pages at a time? That would break it up into 5 parts (we'll lump in that last 40 pages with the last 100), where we can all stop and discuss.
I will think on it a little more and come back. Any suggestions you all have on it are welcome! :)

This could set a precedent, Charlene! We may have to have a once a month McCammon read, or something!!!

message 31: by Char (new)

Char I feel like Burgess Meredith in Twilight Zone.
I just need TIME. TIME! :)

Yea, he's something...really into smells. I remember once I ordered a book and it smelled so strongly I had to contact the shipper to see what to do about it. We both decided on a good day in the sun. I ended up throwing the book away...aw...smells...

message 35: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 101 comments I haven't read this one again since it first came out so this should be interesting ...

message 36: by Char (new)

Char It's been a long, long time for me...if I even read it. I just can't seem to remember. *sigh*

message 37: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 101 comments well like we always say -- it will be like reading it for the first time and that's a good thing :)

message 38: by Char (new)

Char I know, right?! It's nice to be around people that understand. :)

message 39: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 99 comments I remember that I liked it, but have absolutely no idea what it's about!!! (Or maybe I just "think" I've read it...hmmm..) Oh well--either way, I'm ready now!!

message 40: by Pamellia (new)

Pamellia (michiganparents) | 109 comments I can honestly say I have no memory of this book in my past...I only see it in my future.

OK, I have to get this clear in my mind.

Start reading: Monday, August 26, 2013, and that's all I have. I guess I'm asking for a schedule?? or do we play it by ear from the 26th.

Sorry if I missed an earlier posting about this. I did look for one.

I'm so looking forward to this read! Just love me some McCammon reads!

message 44: by Char (new)

Char Pam, I just set it up so that when each of us makes it to 100 pages, we can pop into that thread and talk about it. After reading pages 100 to 200, we can pop into THAT thread and talk about. This way we don't have to put spoiler tags on everything and everyone can go at their own pace. I intend to read it over the course of the week. I will soon make a couple more threads for 300 to 400 etc.

Randolph, I'm psyched you're here! :)

I figure it's been like30 ish years since I read it and I have read a few more books in that time and I only have so much space in my brain
for remembering. I remember that I liked it~and even if I didn't remember reading it or not, it's a McCammon book...chances are fairly high that I'm going to like it :)
