We probably should have seen that one coming...

Chocolate chip cookies are ready for our read! (How awesome would it be to actually "meet" at a book party some day!!)

Jon Recluse | 86 comments Totally awesome!!!!

Paul Martinez | 25 comments Ya know -- this is 2013 -- we could at certain times meet up on Skype -- it doesn't have to be a video-chat (especially with Jon waving around his undies) but voice interaction would be sweet! May be once a week for 30 to 60 mins. Might be heck to arrange but then-again, it might not. Surely would be fun and worth it if we could pull it off. Sat. evening/ Sunday? Of course we still need to post.

So much for reading naked.....

JK! Sadly, I am nearly computer illiterate, and couldn't be on Skype unless someone else set everything up for me....sigh! And Charlene's brownies wouldn't physically transfer to our homes.....

Boxer briefs!

message 58: by Char (new)

Char I'm lucky that I can figure out how to get here! Though it does sound kind of cool.

message 59: by Char (new)

Char Plus, I don't need anyone watching me scarfing down brownies and cookies in my thong. I know I don't want to see it. :)

Paul, I really like this idea. I think it would be loads of fun to talk to everyone...we could try it and see how it goes. My husband says I can just go on line and download or use it...anyway, Kimberly, I bet you are smart enough to read the directions. I think Saturday would be better than Sunday, but it really doesn't matter to me now that I'm retired.

Additionally, you are correct, regarding loaded brownies we would not be able to share on skype...however something the effects are contagious when someone has good some really good brownies. Just sayin'....

Paul Martinez | 25 comments Hi everyone -- Skype is really really easy to use. In fact it is pretty much automatic (after downloading it and typing the screen-name you wish to call) And this will not be a video conference-call. (Charlene feel free to scarf down as many brownies as you please during the call.) I will be happy to initiate the Skype segment of Ms Charlene's "Stinger - Buddy-read 2013" (if it's ok) All we need is to agree on a time for Saturday 8/31 -- and everyone needs to download and register (w/ Skype ) and post their "screen-name" here on this discussion board. I will gather them and at the appointed time your computers will "ring, beep, trill, whatever -- and you will be able to hear everyone... I hope. I use it for work often and it has always been just that easy. I would suggest that after you download it (it's 100% free) and sign-up, you run the "echo test" so you know it works -- and learn how to turn your cameras off if this is your preference. (Jon, mandatory!) (I haven't done this as my computer doesn't have a camera -- so I'm not sure how to. ) Any questions? Can we arrive at a mutually agreed upon time? I'm on Eastern time I often go to church on Sat. night that puts me back home around 6:30 - 7PM But I'm good anytime until 10:30PM... alright sheet -- for you guys, I'll get wild -- 11PM !!

message 64: by Char (new)

Char On Saturdays I'm usually with my mom all day and I'm pretty tired by the time I get home.
But I will consider this. Is it free? I don't have a camera on my PC either which is fine, because I will probably be in my pajamas or something. :)

message 65: by Paul (last edited Aug 25, 2013 08:55AM) (new)

Paul Martinez | 25 comments yes it is free (you will need a microphone!) -- Sunday is fine as well. I just re-read Kimberly's post: I will help you set it up Kimberly. Just go here:

http://www.skype.com/en/download-skyp...

(if you are a Windows user -- if not scroll down the page for more download options) then click the big green button... Did it work?
And Charlene, what better way to unwind than to make new friends discussing a Robert McCammon masterpiece!

Pamellia (michiganparents) | 109 comments I vote Yes on Skype for an hour discussion for

"Stinger - Buddy-read 2013"

The time should not matter to me (at least for a while)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 101 comments great idea but I can't skype :(

message 69: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 86 comments I'm watching my mom.
If I start actually talking to my laptop, I'll wind up being dragged off in a straitjacket....

message 70: by Pamellia (new)

Pamellia (michiganparents) | 109 comments If some or a few ppl can not skype, then I'd rather not. We can have a good discussion here on Good reads. Most ppl response rather quickly.

I am currently attempting to download skype and it's not working out so well...I think it's because I have so many viruses ;-(

message 71: by Paul (new)

Paul Martinez | 25 comments Oh Lordy Pamellia -- don't fret it! You can still talk to us on this thread -- and Jon -- good-job living up to your fictitious surname!

message 72: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 86 comments You try talking to a computer in front of a medicated 75 year old, see what happens.

message 73: by Char (new)

Char LOL, Jon! It's better than what my mom does...which is to become totally fascinated with technology, insist that I teach it to her, then she promptly forgets how to do it. It's a vicious cycle. :)
Not to mention that I don't even know what I'm doing half the time. I just press buttons until I figure it out...or don't. At this point in time, the donts have it.

message 74: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 99 comments I think I'll pass at this point too. I have a MacBook Air, so I'm pretty sure it would work, but I can't guarantee kids won't interfere (I'm really bad at bedtimes during summer break).

Hmmm..maybe I'll try it out during the week though, just to see.... Have to admit though, aside from my kids, I'm a bit reclusive, too... the idea of people really hearing/seeing me is.....different.... to get used to. LOL!

message 75: by Jon Recluse (new)

Jon Recluse | 86 comments My laptop has lousy speakers, so it would be too hard to hear anything, anyway.

message 76: by Pamellia (new)

Pamellia (michiganparents) | 109 comments I'd just probably talk all the time!! I've very chatty.

message 77: by Char (new)

Char LOL!

message 78: by Paul (new)

Paul Martinez | 25 comments Wow -- obviously a group of really cool people here that want to share in a discussion of one of the greatest (and most entertaining) modern author's older works -- I'm glad I found this group. At the same time I'm getting a serious luddite vibe from y'all. Generous spirit that I am, I'll conclude by giving my new acquaintances the benefit of the doubt as you are all posting to a "goodreads" forum and thereby deserving of praise and certainly not derision in the technology know-how dept.. Please forget that I ever did type "skype."

message 79: by Char (new)

Char Nice and....forgotten! :)

message 80: by Pamellia (new)

Pamellia (michiganparents) | 109 comments So...do we start reading today, first 100 pages and discuss tomorrow?

Char Pam, we read and pop into the threads whenever you get to page 100 and so on. There's no set time limit.

Dear Paul...thanks for the way cool comments. I think they are a compliment...I was thinking of looking up some of the words...LOL!! (My husband just handed me a brand spankin' new kindle fire!!!)

Susan I would like to join in this readalong, but I don't Skype and I don't have particularly nice underwear. Can I join anyway?

LOL! We decided against the "Skype"--so nice that nobody made me feel like an idiot with my lack of knowledge!!!

The more involved, the better for conversations, I feel....

message 90: by Char (new)

Char Susan, absolutely! The more the merrier, or scarier! :)

message 91: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Moyer (catwoman56) | 101 comments Susan don't worry~ if nice underwear was a requirement I wouldn't be here either. Welcome to the read and enjoy

message 97: by Char (new)

Char Paul, yes...in the thread that says UP to Chapter 12.
This way nothing is spoiled for anyone. Can you put spoiler tags on your post above or move it to the other thread, pretty please?

message 98: by Char (new)

Char EXCELLENT comments, btw. I will talk to you over at the other thread.

message 99: by Paul (new)

Paul Martinez | 25 comments There couldn't have been any spoilers in that! I was trying to be very careful -- just conjecture! (Although my digital copy does not tell me the page # only the % complete!) So... unless Stevie's "possession" occurs after 100 pages -- I am innocent of any "spoiler charge!" I am however moving it right now -- very sorry about that... (I also have no idea if Cody dies or not! I just know he is 98% done by page two or three. )

message 100: by Paul (new)

Paul Martinez | 25 comments Gahhh -- I do not know where the thread is I am lost!
