Ricki (rickiginsberg) I was recently trying to do a blog post about the best secondary characters, and I can't remember which book I am thinking of.

It was a YA Fantasy from the last three years. I remember the main character (a girl) was in the library with this male, secondary character in one scene (I believe), and I think they were trying to figure out who or what she was. They were searching through old documents.

He was a really geeky boy but really lovable.

I know that is not much to go on, but I am hoping someone knows what I am talking about.

why "who or what she was"? Was she a ghost? Do you remember any of the backdrop. High School, public library?

Jessica (Goldenfurpro) (goldenfurproductions) | 453 comments Do you remember anything about the cover?

message 5: by Ricki (new)

Ricki (rickiginsberg) I think she had some sort of a special power or they were trying to interpret an old document or the meaning of a phrase.

I read so much YA fantasy, that I just can't remember the cover. I wish I did!

Sadly, bkl, I haven't read that one, so that couldn't be it.

Ricki (rickiginsberg) Corinne, she definitely wasn't a ghost.

Lou Rocama | 457 comments I only read the comic adaptation of this, but there's some sort of library research in Beautiful Creatures kind of like that.

message 8: by Ricki (new)

Ricki (rickiginsberg) I got really excited, and then I realized that while I own Beautiful Creatures, I haven't read it. :( Thanks for trying, Lou!

bookel | 4024 comments You can always browse fantasy books from the last three years (or restrict how you like).

Valerie | 58 comments The Grimm Legacy (The Grimm Legacy, #1) by Polly Shulman Set in modern times and she doesn't exactly have powers but there is definitely a library. Or maybe Secondhand Charm, Brightly Woven, Silver Phoenix, none of these have library scenes that I can remember though.

Diana Welsch | 530 comments Is it Wings by Aprilynne Pike? She has a geeky friend that helps her figure out what she is.

message 12: by Ricki (new)

Ricki (rickiginsberg) Darn. None of those. :(

The Archived by Victoria Schwab?

message 14: by Ricki (new)

Ricki (rickiginsberg) No, sadly.

It was a more popular YA fantasy book.

Nevermore has a scene in a bookstore that sort of fits, although Varen is more eerie than geeky.

Alas!

message 18: by Ricki (new)

Ricki (rickiginsberg) Hmm, none of these. I think the characters met in the library very often. Then ended up finding clues in old books, either in the library or later in a dusty study somewhere.

City of Bones for Michele's click

Graceling for Andria's click

message 24: by Ricki (new)

Ricki (rickiginsberg) AH! I have read City of Bones and Graceling. Now, it is time for me to investigate which one it is. Thank you!!!

message 25: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Kennedy (konfusedfae) | 13 comments If not Graceling, it may have been Bitterblue (in the same series, by Kristin Cashore). Bitterblue spent a lot of time in the library.

message 26: by Siufong (new)

Siufong Tran | 11 comments Actually I think Its Clockwork Angel, cause Tessa has a strange ability and they were looking for clues about her in the library. Although I wouldn't necessarily describe Will as geeky.

message 27: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 5 comments Not a perfect fit as this was published in 2005, but it has several similar elements. Even in the event you haven't read it, I would highly recommend A Certain Slant of Light.

message 28: by Christie (new)

Christie | 152 comments I was thinking of City of Bones too. Thinking of it I remember a library being used a lot in the book, and Simon, her best friend, is kind of geeky/loveable too I think.

The part of trying to discover who or what she is does make me think more of Clockwork Angel because that's a big question there, but the geeky friend description doesn't fit that book.

message 29: by Ricki (new)

Ricki (rickiginsberg) Is it sad that I am now wondering if I combined Graceling, City of Bones, Bitterblue, and Clockwork Angel in my head? That is why the plot is so vague.

Thank you, everyone. I am going to do more research and figure out which one it is.

message 30: by Siufong (new)

Siufong Tran | 11 comments The part that you said with the girl trying to figure out who or what she was definitely sounds like Clockwork Angel while the geeky boy does sound like Simon from City of Bones.
Well I hope you figure it out soon :)

message 31: by Ricki (new)

Ricki (rickiginsberg) It's Simon, and because the Infernal Devices and Mortal Instruments series seem to have melded together, I think I combined the two. Thank you!
