Off-Topic: What kind of music do you like?

Oh, no, I'm so sorry about your iPod! Mine is like an arm to me. There's not much I won't listen to, and the weirder, the better. There's this Scottish nad that play salsa mucis by mixing tropical instruments and bagpipes. Their name is Salsa Céltica and their songs are brilliant for dancing.

Yes, it was awful and I have been hesitant to go through all that again. Unfortunately, I had deleted most of the files on the computer because they were taking up so much room so if I do decide to try the modern age again, I will have to re-import all my music :(

It is just such fun! I know that part of my fondness for this music started with the fact that I love the musicals of the 1930s & 40s -- Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, etc.

I had as well!
I had as well!

You and me both, Ruth! I am a bit younger than you but had that same reaction to disco & "Saturday Night Fever". Though I do have a soft spot for Sister Sledge's "We Are Family" for some reason... I don't even have any sisters!

The old-fashioned kind like Flatt & Scruggs or the more modern variety like Bela Fleck?"
Hi Leslie! I just saw your message. I like all kinds of bluegrass - traditional and progressive! I'm on the Board of the Southwest Traditional & Bluegrass Music Association here in New Mexico. We bring in all kinds of groups, which has exposed me to some amazing artists like the Gibson Brothers, Claire Lynch, and Frank Solivan. The first bluegrass concert I went to, before I was a fan, was in the early 90s when I saw Bela Fleck, among others, at Telluride. That's when I got hooked!

I have one of her songs on my ITunes. I like her, too!

Me, too! I have Sirius XM for one reason only - Bluegrass Junction!!

I saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones in concert and they were absolutely amazing. It's one thing to hear someone play an instrument and it's another to hear a master play one.
While I listen to mostly Symphony Hall and Siriusly Sinatra, I'm not a stranger to Bluegrass Junction either.

LOL!

That's just under a quarter of the total number. :)
Currently playing: the always lovely Kate Rusby's Sweet Bells

Love Nina Simone.

"Classical" (as in Baroque, Classical, Romantic, etc, but I am not equally keen on each of these eras and there is a fair bit of boring stuff in some of that)
Traditional Peruvian mountain Music (had a friend introduce me to this in university)
Christian rock (some)
Traditional Icelandic songs from before 20th Century--mostly choral and also I'm a big fan of Bára Grímsdóttir
A number of lesser known artists, such as Canadian singer-songwriter Terry Kelly (not sure how you'd classify his stuff), American Christian singer-songwriter Geno Meldrum
Tim Hawkins' funny songs
This is a very, very incomplete list and I know I'm missing a bunch of things. I am more of a "I love this piece/song" than a "I love type x kind of music" but there are some types of music I tend to dislike most of the time.

Does Inti-Illimani fit into the trad Peruvian mountain music genre?
Oh by the way, Happy Birthday Beethoven!

Perhaps not. Down to 140 songs at 6 hrs and 36 mins listening time left. :)

It's a different style, but cool! Some of the instruments are the same, so they might not sound really different, but the overall styles are but with a bit of overlap. Notice (and in Chile it might be the same) the combination of traditional and Spanish instruments. I wish I could find a good one with ocarina (I love the ocarina played well). Or anything from the LP I bought by Sukay that was never put onto cassette or CD as it has traditional music only.
Here's a song from an Inca Son https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtVGH... that is also on the CD I just bought of theirs

So is your favourite instrument a tin whistle ;) ? (sort of like a recorder)

I hate all sorts of music."
Okay. So you don't like any music? That is rare, but of course there have to be people like that. We are very much into music around here :)
Anyway, that was a joke that I was making about the tin whistle!
No, I am mostly old school with my music though I am slowly beginning to transfer my LPs to my iTunes (I have already converted all my CDs and then lost it when my iPod crashed)...
