I do, too, Jean! Feel that way about fiction and the classification by genre. Good fiction knows no genre, same with good movies.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Crossing boundaries... how we all progress. What were we talking about? Oh yeah, fusion music anyone?

message 53: by [deleted user] (new)

Fusion music?

message 54: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Just as it sounds - blend of different styles. Look in Wikipedia. Hey your photo has changed in the last few minutes Aaron. Are you the same guy? :D

message 55: by [deleted user] (new)

I know. I have fusion CD's home. I was pulling your leg.
I put a new pic up, yes. What do you mean, am I the same guy? :)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I like listening to Michael Jackson's Thriller during Halloween. You hear that creepy rap that Vincent Price does at the end too. the music video for that was great.

Shirley | 4177 comments Amber wrote: "I like listening to Michael Jackson's Thriller during Halloween. You hear that creepy rap that Vincent Price does at the end too. the music video for that was great."

Amber, I remember when that video was first broadcast. It was amazing, we had never seen anything quite like it before - everyone was talking about it!

message 60: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) awesome Shirley! I was born in 1987 so I was like 10 when I saw that music video late night on either VH1 or MTV. they usually played it on or around Halloween.

Denise (drbetteridge) Jean wrote: "Anyone else here like Adiemus?"
I love Karl Jenkins. I saw him in Cardiff last year, really amazing. Adiemus is such an interesting sound.

message 62: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) What's he doing now Denise? Still Adiemus or back to the classical?

message 63: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Knittle | 9 comments I listened to mostly a little of everything. A few are dubstep, trap, rock, classic rock, country just to name a few.

message 64: by Denise (new)

Denise (drbetteridge) Jean wrote: "What's he doing now Denise? Still Adiemus or back to the classical?"
When I saw him, he was just about to bring out "Peacemakers" which was less catchy than his other music, but still pretty. Now, I believe he is touring with his Adiemus.

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Did you know that you can vote for who gets picked for the rock and roll hall of fame this year for 2014? The nominees this year is Hall & oates, kiss, Yes, Deep purple, Linda Ronstadt, Peter Gabriel, and some others but they are letting fans take a poll for who gets in. go here to vote. http://www.rockhall.com/get-involved/... . I voted for Hall & oates because I like their music with some others.

message 69: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollycoulson) I'm a lover of alternative rock/punk rock. But I also adore tv/movie soundtracks. They make life so much more awesome when listening to the big tracks of Star Trek, Lord of the Rings and Doctor Who!

message 70: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) cool Holly. Movie soundtracks rock too! ^_^

When I think soundtracks, I tend to think of either
a) 1930's musicals like Top Hat or
b) movies like The Big Chill or Pulp Fiction

message 72: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) btw, my favorite version of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is by Christian artist Erica Lane. It is a very pretty song and I love to listen to it on my mp3 player.

Counting Crows

And much more

message 74: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) I love soft rock and ballads, especially those from the 60s and 70s.

I have a Youtube channel where I share my favorite songs and my own video uploads:-

https://www.youtube.com/user/poonwaihan

You may find something you like there :)

message 75: by Elsbeth (new)

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) My favourite would be Ilse de Lange. I have all her albums and been to one of her concerts. She actually participated in the Eurovision Songcontest last saterday (together with Waylon, as The Common Linnets) and they were 2nd!
So the rest of Europe agrees I have great taste ;)!!

message 76: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamie73) That's so cool Alice :-). Lots of classics there. I see you have Nilssons Without You there. The song was written by Peter Hamm of Badfinger. He was from Swansea and I think died very young in 1975. I'm pretty sure there's a video of Badfinger on Youtube.

My Canadian brother in law used to live out in Bernaby? When he worked for EA (originally Toronto) but now he's working for Microsoft in Bellevue.

message 77: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamie73) @Elsberh I thought the Dutch entry was very country sounding. It'll probably do well in the Southern States of America. I didn't mind it. :-)

Thanks, Jamie. Enjoy. Oh, I used to think that Nilsson was the composer - thanks for telling me. This is one of my all-time favorites. Nilsson had such a tragic life (sigh)!

Elsbeth (elsbethgm) Jamie wrote: "@Elsberh I thought the Dutch entry was very country sounding. It'll probably do well in the Southern States of America. I didn't mind it. :-)"

Yes, I like country. But Ilse de Lange also sings other styles, like rock. I think she has a wonderful voice!

I also like Enya, Clannad, Peter Gabriel and lots of others.

message 80: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamie73) @Elsbeth I think Clannad's In A Lifetime with Bono is one of my favourite songs of all time. When the Tv series Robin Hood started in 1980''s my mother went Clannad crazy :-)

Thank you, Bette. Glad you've found songs you like! This channel is my best companion, aside from books!

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments My parents were classical music/opera buffs and I grew up listening to people like Mario Lanza, Enrico Caruso and Gigli.

But I also had older sisters so heard lots of the 60s music. And who can forget all the power-ballads of the 70s and 80s. So basically I can listen to all kinds of music except rap and hip-hop.

I don't watch tv and have my ipod on speaker all day long. If you're walking along the beach and hear La Boheme booming from a house - come on in, it's my house:)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) do you guys like Airsupply? that's my mom's fave band and we listen to it almost all the time with hall and oates and stuff.

message 86: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamie73) Hall And Oates is pretty cool Amber :-)
Didn't Air Supply sing All Out Of Love? You have me singing 'I Can't Go For That' now which isn't a bad thing as you can't hear my voice!

message 87: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Air Supply is one of my favorite groups! The first-ever live concert that I ever went to was an Air Supply concert in Hong Kong! My favorite songs by them are "Two Less Lonely People in the World" and "The One That You Love" :)

message 88: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) yeah they did Jamie and thanks. :)

message 89: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I love two less lonely people in the world too with making love out of nothing at all.

I like to listen to classic hard rock and heavy metal music, pop and folk music, and because I do theatre musicals. Not a big fan of today's music.

Very nice song with strong female vocal - I've added it to my favorite list. Must admit I've never heard of this group before. Thanks for sharing it, Bette!

I had to read this comment a few times because at first I thought you were saying that your family had been sold (as into slavery)!

I do like Fairport Convention, thanks for the link!

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Bette - let me know if you'd like some recommendations; we have at least a dozen of theirs. The "feel" was very different after Maddy Prior left - they became almost completely instrumental for a while.
