Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments Just thought I'd start a little side read-a-long something fun and easy to enjoy in the last days of summer and to bring back happy memories of childhood.
1, Pick your favourite Famous five book.
2, Tell us all which one you're reading.
3, Read it.

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments I am going to read Five on a Treasure Island

Just ordered the first 5 in a box set from Amazon. Is anybody interested in reading all of them, maybe 1 a month in order of writing?

Just a warning if anybody was thinking of buying the kindle versions, they are updated and made considerable more 'pc'. Fine for new readers but I want Blyton's language!

Shirley | 4177 comments I wonder if they have lashings of ginger beer in the kindle versions?

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

That was actually one of the errors pointed out in a review actually! No more lashings of ginger beer and no more spankings!

message 6: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments oh no! what is the world coming to! Not the same without the old fashioned language!

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments mine has old fashioned language including lashings of ginger beer and original art work too woo wooop !!

Great idea Tracey! I'm going to read Five Go Off in a Caravan I think. It was always my favourite as a kid :-)

Sophie Clifford | 10 comments I'll read one, or I'm up for all Heather! I haven't read them in years and years and loved them as a kid. If only one I'm not sure which one yet though.

That's such a shame about the kindle versions, I can't imagine anything worse when the originals are such good books, ruining classics!

Do you mean these parodies by The Comic Strip? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Go_...

Mine still hasn't arrived! My Faraway Tree books did! This is such a bad distraction when I'm supposed to be reading Vanity Fair!

message 16: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments ooooooh I love the faraway tree books

Arpita (BagfullofBooks) (bagfullofbooks) So do I. Remember moon- face and I think the slippery-slip? The best was the cloud at the top of the tree that could transport you to different places. Utterly magical. Reminds me of happy childhood reading.

Sat this evening and absolutely devoured the 1st in the series. It's such a wonderful adventure story. I wanted to be one of them so much when I was younger and I still do! I love the old style language and the lashings of ginger beer!

I feel so warm and happy inside. Can't wait to read the next book but will force myself to get back to my grown-up books for a few chapters

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) I have a question. What is a read-along? Just curious. How do you participate in one?

A Readalong is like a Buddy Read - it is when 2 or more people plan to read the same book (or series) at about the same time and discuss it. Most of the time they are open to anyone who wants to join, but it is polite to ask.

message 23: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Oh okay. Thanks leslie. :-)

I've just read Five Go Adventuring Again which is the second in the series. This one is another mystery but a bit predictable. Only got a 4* but I still feel warm, fuzzy and in need of some ginger beer and bread and jam!
