Alayna | 3 comments I know this might be difficult because I have so few details about it, but there is only one scene that is in my memory.

I believe I read it at my old house so it would have been published some time before 2007; I would say early 2000's though as it's not likely I read it soon after it came out. My best guess, 2000-2004. It was probably a book that a 5th-7th grade girl would have read; I believe a coming of age story in which the main character was a female; probably in middle school.

The only scene I can remember is that a girl (I believe a friend or classmate of the main character) was filling out an application for a library card at the front desk of the library and when it got down to the question "father's occupation", she ran out of the library crying because her father had died recently. (He might've left her family too, but I am pretty certain he died). I believe the reason the main character said this was because she was saying how she had to go up to the librarian and explain why she ran out of the library after getting to that question.

I know that is not a lot of information at all, but hopefully it catches the right person's eye ...?

Alayna | 3 comments Contemporary setting. I'm beginning to believe I made it up...? I can't find a thing or remember anything but what I posted :(

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Here are a couple of books w/ a deceased father. These are mid - late 2000s. If this is not your book, maybe something in their description may trigger a memory.

Alayna | 3 comments Thank you for the suggestions, you gave me the inspiration to keep looking and I finally found it! Turns out it wasn't a book at all, but rather a story in Chicken Soup for the Kid's Soul. It's such a relief <3

Here is a screen cap of the part I'm talking about, it was on google books so I can't copy paste.

ETA: I'm a novice, can someone move this to the "SOLVED" section. Yay a happy ending! <3
