(don't read until you've finished chapter 1) (view spoiler)[While I like the two main characters and the action starts right away, Lissa's compulsion almost seems too perfect--I'm hoping there's some sort of drawback to warping the minds of people, because otherwise she'd be too powerful. There's also no explanation of what a dhampir is, but I'm assuming it'll come later when they're not being tracked down xD And yay, there's a cat. (hide spoiler)]

Personally I'm not a fan of guys with long hair xD as in, long enough to tie up. However, I ship Rose with Dimitri, not Jesse. I don't really like that guy.
Agreed about Christian, too. It's not his fault that his parents were Strigoi, it's an accident of birth, but unfortunately people often make judgments based on those. I foresee Lissa and Christian becoming closer!

Vampire Academy is great. The first time I heard of it I thought it sounded mildly cheesy, but my snap judgments have been completely erased. L-o-v-e. Can't wait to read more! (hide spoiler)]

Finished Chapter 8: (view spoiler)[I laughed aloud when Christian set Ralf on fire. Which makes me feel kind of bad, but Rose's commentary was too hilarious. "Since neither Jacob nor Ralf would have set Ralf on fire, it sort of made the culprit obvious. The fact that Christian was laughing hysterically sort of gave it away too." xD I also wonder why Mia's in the same class as Rose and Lissa are, since she's a year younger. And most important, the poor fox. W-o-w. It doesn't strike me as something Mia would do. I don't know that much about her yet, but she seems like the typical high-school-mean-girl who would sooner stop wearing makeup than ever do something as unappealing as slitting a fox's throat. I'm suspecting some sort of larger, darker, maybe outside threat. (hide spoiler)]

Chapters 11-14 (wow, a lot has happened): (view spoiler)[Gosh, I feel so bad for Christian! He does seem a little aloof at times, but he just gives me the impression of being a nice guy who really likes Lissa. I respect Rose's protectiveness, since they've clearly been through a lot together and Rose feels a sense of responsibility for her friend, but at the same time I can't help but feel that what she told Christian was a little overboard.

About the bring-back-from-brink-of-death thing, I have a feeling that's going to play out later on. I wonder what happened to Ms. Karp... I feel like she's going to pop back into the story later on, since apparently she's the only one who knows the details about Lissa's magic.

I totally agree with you about Rose and Dimitri working together. I'm glad their relationship made a little progress after the queen's visit. Dimitri has clearly had a rough childhood, I feel bad for him.

And speaking of the queen's visit, oh my god do I hate Queen Tatiana. Okay, I can kind of understand that she's upset Lissa abandoned the Academy with no warning or explanation. But that whole passive-aggressive ooh-your-name-has-a-lot-of-history really ticked me off.

As for Lissa's whole compulsion act, I don't know what to feel. One the one hand, I'm glad Lissa is stepping up and doing something--Rose doesn't deserve to be bullied like that, and if Mia started it (which I don't doubt) then she deserves consequences. But especially since compelling Moroi isn't natural, I'm a little worried. I feel like they're going to be caught. D:

I also cannot believe that someone left a dead rabbit in Lissa's room. 99% sure it's the same person or people who did the fox. It's cruel and disgusting. This time he/she/they left a note... it's really cryptic! I'm worried for Rose and Lissa.

I've only read chapters 15-18, so I'll read your thoughts when I finish. Here are mine so far... (view spoiler)[I'm really glad that Rose and Dimitri's relationship made progress! The lip gloss was pretty cute, haha. And you were right, they are ending up as guarding partners~

I'm really concerned about Lissa. Clearly she has a lot of problems, what with having no family left, being so physically drained from healing, forced to spend time around people she doesn't like and forced to not be with Christian, who she actually likes. That history with Andre and Mia shocked me--I feel a little bit sorry for Mia, but I still don't thin her actions against Lissa and Rose were justified. It's at no fault of Lissa's that Andre did what he did.
Even though they argued right afterwards, I'm glad Christian and Lissa kissed. It was very cute ^_^ I ship them, and I really hope they get together by the end of the book.

Getting into Lissa's bedroom already seems odd, but the poor dove in her backpack was even more startling. My theory is that if someone is close enough to Lissa that they can place something in her bag, that person (or people) is probably at the academy. Maybe a student is secretly working for someone else?

The Ms. Karp thing...wow. She seemed to be going through some of the same things as Lissa, but obviously I don't want Lissa to turn Strigoi. Gosh, Richelle Mead has written such a captivating plot. I can't wait to see how the last chapters play out.

Rose's theory of Lissa, Ms. Karp, and St. Vladimir being connected was really insightful. I feel like she's correct, but I don't know how that'll work itself into the plot. If Vladimir was a saint, I'm assuming he didn't become Strigoi, so I'm going to hold that as hope that Lissa will not either.
I'm also curious about what shadow-kissed means. Clearly Lissa has special magic that only a few others have, but what does being shadow-kissed do? It's the title of the third book xD so I imagine it'll be a huge deal later on. (hide spoiler)]

Like Rose, I felt a touch sorry for her when I learned the Andre thing, but not anymore. She has sunk to some very low levels for revenge... And again, it's not Lissa's fault what Andre did.

YAY I'm so glad Christian and Lissa are together! <3 they're adorable. And I'm also very glad that Rose and Dimitri at least talked everything out. Even though they say they can't be together, I have a feeling there'll be some relationship progress/news in later books, haha.

I wasn't expecting Victor at all! I only realized when Dimitri said the necklace he'd given rose had a compulsion spell on it. It makes a lot of sense, though. Poor Lissa, going through all of that torture :/ And I feel bad for Natalie, too. She just really wants to please her father, which I can understand. I can totally picture Victor manipulating his daughter GAH he's horrible. But I was right, a student at the academy was in on it. Now it makes sense how the animals got into Lissa's bedroom~

Finished chapter 3: (view spoiler)[WOW. I was getting all excited to read about Rose's Qualifier and then...bam. Even though I hadn't "met" Arthur Schoenburg, from what Rose has said/thought, I can tell he had a pretty legendary reputation, so his death was a shock nonetheless. It's interesting that humans are helping out the Strigoi. I mean, most humans don't know that Strigoi exist, so I wonder how that works...

Christian and Lissa are so cute, aww <3 I ship them, haha. And Dimitri and Rose... I feel like a ski lodge would be a nice place for them to rekindle their feelings -winkwinknudgenidge- :P

Finally, an appearance from Rose's mom! I've been curious about her since that email early in the first book, and am super pumped to read more. The whole ski trip brings up a million possibilities for fighting, other conflicts, romance, and general awesomeness. Yay. (hide spoiler)]
