Discussion for chapters 9 thru 12. Please comment on anything from these chapters, but remember to hide spoilers within a spoiler tag. Please note which chapter a spoiler is from so other readers will know if it is safe to "peek" or not. You do not have to wait until reading all of the chapters to comment, but please restrict your posts to content from chapters 1 thru 12. Enjoy!

Note: I am dividing the read into 5 sections, each 4 chapters long. I may adjust as we go, so check the chapter numbers for each section! :)

I just finished chapter 10: creepy twin cousins. *shudder*

Diane Lynn | 481 comments Just finished chapter 11. I wonder if (view spoiler) I like the confusion the twins add to the story.

You've zipped ahead. I'll come back later. :)

Diane Lynn | 481 comments Rainy day here, only fit for reading...darn.

*darn* We just got home from the farmers' market and grocery shopping. I have a few things to do around the house, but I won't let you leave me behind for too long!! ;)

That's even twistier than the story as it's written! (They might have both been there.)

End of chapter 12: It certainly looks more and more like (view spoiler)

Judith (judithgrace) | 323 comments Thought I'd just read to chapter 8, but couldn't stop, read until midnight. it was so good!!
Those twins are really something, .
I just love the Vicar, what a kind and understanding person he is...
Love the little chapter endings with the story within a story about Nick and his lover.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the Vicar, too. He seems rather open-minded, and fatherly at the same time.

Diane Lynn | 481 comments The Vicar does seem fatherly but the conversation about (view spoiler) I didn't much care for.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

He did seem very accepting about it. Which part in particular did you not care for?

Diane Lynn | 481 comments Jeannette wrote: "He did seem very accepting about it. Which part in particular did you not care for?"

I am just bored with that topic. Now that that chapter and long discussion is over, I'm back to enjoying the book.

Good! It did feel like Stewart felt she had to justify the telepathy.

I just got acquainted with a new someone in chapter 13.

Judith (judithgrace) | 323 comments I am in awe of Lady Mary, that she was able to write such terrible poetry! Since she is such a wonderful writer, she must have had to work really hard at it.

At last we meet .

I'm getting more and more sure . I just hope I'm not wrong.

I am reading this right now in another group. Boy, I think your spoiler is spot on about the twins.

I wish I could remember it better, it's been a few years! I love stories with twins and that these threads are still active. Enjoy your read. :)

debbicat *made of stardust* (cr8zycat) | 439 comments I love stories with twins too. Yes. I'm very glad the threads are still open. Makes it more fun.

But...Why did no one post pictures??? I love pictures in these old threads. And a cast. No one did a cast for the movie????

Those are so cool!

Yep, the casting is fun.

Have you ever read Savannah Purchase by Jane Aiken Hodge? They are actually cousins but look alike. That was a fun one!

debbicat *made of stardust* (cr8zycat) | 439 comments Ugh! Another one I don't know about it. Thanks for the rec. I'll look for it. We have great used biojstores here. I bet I can find it. I'll let ya know. ;)

We are all enablers! ;)

debbicat *made of stardust* (cr8zycat) | 439 comments That is correct! Is there a 12 step group I can attend?

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I just found a lot of this section quite odd, although I do understand it would have been difficult for Bryony to do anything about her discoveries. The twins make me (view spoiler)

Bobbie | 181 comments Oh, now I wonder if Tadiana is right and it was Emory that hit Bryony's father and left the pen. That seems more likely. I am really having trouble putting this book down, but tomorrow is a busy day with a grandson's birthday party.
Another twin book I really liked is Under Gemini by Rosamunde Pilcher. Now I want to reread that.

message 27: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 1107 comments I really liked the Vicar's conversation with Bryony, his practicality and his spirituality, both. And his advice about living without her special friend if he's a moral problem is spot on, I think.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 416 comments To be continued in July 2023.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) | 416 comments My, the plot is certainly thickening! I’ve read the speculations above but am trying not to draw my own conclusions because that tends to bias my reading and make me overlook things as I try to shape the text to meet my assumptions. I feel for Bryony, with her head and her heart in such terrible conflict. I’m amazed she’s able to maintain outward calm.
