Ooh Emmy. I tried to read this once and gave up about a third of the way through. I had no patience back then. I do plan to go back and try to get through the whole series. Let me know how you get on. xx

I can see why you might give up on it. I'm reading the revised version which might make a difference. I'm now halfway through the book and I'm getting intrigued.

I'm glad to hear that. When I said I wanted to read it a family friend went out and bought the whole series for me and I've felt guilty never getting round to reading them.

Well, if you're intrigued and going to read the rest, then it's done something :) I'll definitely have to give it a second try.

That's what this topic is about. Sadly, I've got nothing to say as I've been on a reading lull. My next project is a few recent purchases, but more on that later ;)"
I am reading The Haj by Leon Uris, he also wrote Exodus. It is very interesting to me, yet not terribly compelling as a page turner. It is easy for me to set down, but when I do pick it up I enjoy the story and feel that I'm learning a some about a part of the world that I know little of. It is an historical fiction piece about the evolution of Palestine becoming Israel.
Before this I read Sophie Kinsell's Shopaholic Takes Manhattan. It was complete, and utter fluff and I thoroughly delighted in it. I even read some to my boyfriend after a tour of wine tasting. He laughed and was caught up in the story, maybe he was drunk.

LOL. Sounds like fun. I'll have to give it a read sometime. The Haj sounds intriguing. I like books that you don't particularly miss while it's put down, but that you enjoy while reading. Sometimes I get far too caught up in stories to do anything but read and then nothing gets done. :)

Right? I would totally recommend The Haj and it is very much in line with the political conflict of today.

Yup. Definitely one I'll have to be looking at. I got a set of three books on Edinburgh, which is near my home town, recently and was really disappointed with one of them, which inevitably was the last to be finished, so I'm looking for something to really draw me in for my next read. This could be it; allowing me a great read and some time to write/edit as well.

I've finally got around to reading my first Classic, Dracula. So far I'm not that far through it but it's already grabbing my attention. I can imagine that it only gets better.

Great choice.

The other... well... There isn't much to say about it. I am at 35% and still waiting for something, anything, to happen. Most of it so far is part dialogues about university, and other part 'action' about things done in campus, (Playing pool, drinking, etc.) but I can't see any of it advancing the story. I'm having a hard time pushing myself to finish the book. It has great review so maybe if I persevere, I'll be rewarded.
I know I must sound like a difficult person to satisfy but really, I'm not. :(

Hi Emmy, I'd definitely suggest Beyond the Eyes. I've just finished it as a Read4Review for the blog tour for the author and it's fantastic! I really loved it. It's got a bit of fantasy (about dark spirits aka demons), mystery (an unsolved murder) and is dark but not quite horror. :)

Not at all G.G. I've felt that way before about books that have brilliant 5 star reviews and I've not really got along with. I hate giving bad reviews, but I also always want to be honest so if you must give a 2 star or 3 star review, then you must give it. Honesty is everything.

Thanks for your kind input. I've been debating on what to do for a while now. I hate giving bad reviews too, but I don't see myself recommending either books to a friend, so you're right, honesty is important. And who knows, maybe what I don't like will be something someone else will.

I know exactly what you mean. :) I rated a book as 2 stars, and I was the only one I knew who didn't like it and the only review less than 4 stars. Then I got a comment on it saying that someone, and then three more people agreed with my review. Reviews always help someone.

That sounds like the almost perfect finish for my challenge (and I don't believe in perfection so, hey :D). Thanks Elaine.
