Leslie aka StoreyBook Reviews (hugbandit7) I am a reviewer and have a blog called StoreyBook Reviews (storeybookreviews.com and also on facebook at facebook.com/storeybookreviews). I love to read (although lately sometimes it has seemed tedious, mayber it was the books?!)

for a short period of time while I was accepting anything to read/review but then got shocked by some of the genres because it didn't seem like the book was erotica and clearly didn't say that....so now I'm choosier. Plus I have a backlog of books to read for review and of course my books to read for fun!

I'm always looking for ways to get my blog out there and am interested in hearing what others do to promote their blog.

M.A.CHASE (machase) | 5 comments Hi! I'm a reviewer too and have a blog called The Guide to Good Books . (I also have a Facebook page here.)

Mostly what I do is post on my Facebook page whenever I have an upcoming book review or have posted something. And, I invite as many friends as possible to "like" my page. I also promote my blog on other social media websites and writing websites.

Mikela Hi, I have a blog at http://chapterofdreams.com/ which was started to remind me of why I loved all the thousands of books that I've read. The problem with reading as many as I had over the last two years is that after awhile I couldn't remember what made each one special or sometimes even the title of so many of them.

Nancy Oakes (quinnsmom) Hello...I'm Nancy. I have a blog of sorts, The Year in Books, which is really my ongoing, online reading journal for the year. I typically read stuff not read by a lot of people, but I've separated my blog into literary fiction, crime, nonfiction and sci-fi/horror/fantasy pages. I also keep an ongoing list of books to give away (to US readers).

Kelly (readmeanything1) | 12 comments Hello all! I keep a blog, You Can Read Me Anything, which is mostly reviews. I occasionally write a more musing piece about some of the ideas I have after reading a more in-depth work, and I'm planning to do some spotlight pieces on local bookstores.
I also link to my new posts on Facebook. Something else I've found useful is finding the authors whose works I'm reviewing on Twitter and mentioning them when I post my reviews there. They'll often reply, and sometimes they'll even RT, which is nice. Every little bit helps!

Jai Dadlani (Ficlov) (ficlov) | 1 comments Hello! I have a blog called Ficlov in which I review YA fiction and occasionally post a rant or just a thought I've had (all YA related, of course).

I'm not very good with social networking, so the only one I keep regularly updated is my Twitter page.

I'm excited about meeting other YA fiction bloggers so we can discuss books and get into the community!

Hiya! I'm a mom that reads and occasionally writes books. My blog is http://fit4amom.blogspot.com. I do book promotions for authors and reviews. I do it for free because I love books and authors.
I have been blogging for a few years now and built quite a reputation for promoting bloggers and authors in my blog tours. If you ever want to join me in a book promo or want me to blog with you, let me know?

Libby Broadbent Hello lovely reviewers and bloggers! I am an author and blogger with my third book coming out this fall... I was doing some reviews for indie authors, but I found it to be VERY challenging because so many of the books I read were... well... Literally Challenged. (I'm a teacher, there's politically polite jargon for everything!) I ended up spending quite a bit of time with some authors making suggestions and offering editing advice, even though I'm not really qualified to do so. I just found that so many of the errors I noticed were things my own editor saw in my writing, and as I become more adept at ridding them from my own copy they become glaring in the writing of others. Tense shifts, pov shifts, telling... you know. I just found it very difficult to read someone's work and then only be able to give them a one or two star review, so I have backed off from reviewing. I'm just wondering what you bloggers do when you read a really poor piece of work? Are you reviewing indie works, or mostly mainstream publishers? I want to support other indie authors like myself, and I have read some really good ones, but some of them are shocking. And then there's the phenomenon of Fifty Shades of Poorly Written, so I have to wonder if I know what I'm talking about :) http://libbybroadbent.com/2012/07/12/...
Just wondering what your thoughts are about responding to poor writing when you review a book.
Thanks :)
Also... how do you choose what to review? There's so many!

I have reviewed a lot of Indie authors, some were fantastic, some told a great story with lousy grammar and a ton of spelling mistakes and some needed another job. I am always honest, I don't think you're doing anybody a favor by giving a 3 or 4 star review to a one star book. But....I am never mean. Sometimes that's hard, really really hard. I will say flat out though look your story was great but you really need an editor. High profile authors and big publishing houses uses them, nothing wrong with that. When I find myself conflicted about it though is when I have signed up for a blog tour, a blog tour is a promotional event and the expectation is a good review. Since I am a last minute chick most of the time I have been stuck with books that sucked that needed a positive review and too late to back out, thus I don't do blog tours anymore unless it's an author I am familiar with and like their work.

I choose books to review that interest me, when I first started blogging I signed up for everything. Oy vey the crap I forced myself to read! Now I sign up for reviews by picking books the same as I would in a book store. I blog for fun, not publicity I am not an author or editor or have no service to sell so I can afford to be fussy.

I read anything and everything that interests me from the synopsis. I try not to be too picky and choosy because I don't get review requests very often. When I find something that's . . . well, Literally Challenged I try not to make it sound horrible, though I don't try to sugar coat it. I try to give them constructive criticism. Like Laurie says above me, I don't give them a favor by making the star rating higher than it should be.

Libby Broadbent Kindle gives you books? How do you become a reviewer for Kindle? I guess my problem is that I have reviewed books by authors who I have gotten to know a bit through various social media venues, so it feels a bit more personal than just picking a book myself. I know that for myself, I certainly dont want two star reviews on my amazon page but I definitely want to know if my book deserves only two stars, and why! Thanks for your responses. I have another newbie question.. what's the deal with blog tours? A couple of you have mentioned them above, but I dont really get how to join one, or create one. I've looked into them, and I understand being a guest on another's blog, but how do they work for reviews?

Hope (hopefully86) | 6 comments Greetings and salutations! I am an avid reader and reviewer of many genres. Feel free to check out my blog http://thereadersreview.blogspot.com/ or message me on Goodreads if you would like me to review a copy for you! I'm mainly interested in fiction, but enjoy historical reads as well. In regards to preference, I can post reviews on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Goodreads, or other major sites per request. I can't wait to read your work! :)

Leslie aka StoreyBook Reviews (hugbandit7) I have recently added Twitter so that my blog posts hit that and will be working to increase my followers. I participate in blog tours, whether that is reviewing the book or just doing a book blast or cover reveal. I like when there are giveaways and I can add my FB page or my Twitter feed. Since I have already increased my FB followers to over 3,000 I'm going to switch to Twitter.

luckily I haven't had to give a book less than 3 paws (my scale). I did not read a book one time because I couldn't get into it and truthfully said so. I think an author would rather someone say they just couldn't get into the book then leave a bad review.

Leslie aka StoreyBook Reviews (hugbandit7) oh and I participate in I'm a Reader not a Writer's blog tours quite a bit!

Shane O'Neill (shanekponeill) Would any of the bloggers here be willing to do a feature for my new release in mid to late October? I'm not looking for a review, just a featured spot to try and bring the new book to a wider audience. My series is based on a very expansive concept and are tales of dark Gothic horror; religious corruption; political intrigue; deep romance and erotica set against the vast historical backdrops of 15th and 16th Century Europe.

Would anyone accommodate me? Thanks.

Shane

Leslie aka StoreyBook Reviews (hugbandit7) Shane - I probably could do a spotlight for you. send me details to reviews@storeybookreviews.com. I'd like to read the description etc since I try not to have erotica on my blog (although some has slipped by)
