I read because reading is a great thing. When you open a book you're being thrust into a whole 'nother world with enchanting and perfect people and witty dialogue and exciting action and intense romance. They are worlds, they are ten-dollar vacations, they are not lives. Every time I read I become all of the characters and the book and I live through them.

Why do I read? That's kind of a loaded question if looked at in a certain way. I read constantly. My punishment is getting a book taken away. I read everything too. Signs, posters, cereal boxes, I read 'em all. But why do I read those things? Simple. To read something. I read somethings simply to put words into my brain. I'm a highschooler now, but in fifth and sixth grade, I tackled Lord of the Rings. Before that, in second grade, I was reading the Giver and understanding it, why my sibling, who is 3years older, was reading it in their class. Those were to try to challenge myself. It wasn't too challenging though... Another reason for my constant reading is to forget. I have a pretty nice and cozy life compared to alot of kids in my school, so it's not to forget about hardships. It is to forget that there is no such thing as magic and miracles only happen in books. It's to forget that my life is rather empty, so I fill it with the main characters experience. Not all of my life comes from books, though. I travel alot with my family, and I've been to such wonderful places, like Italy (I have so much family there, a whole town in southern Italy is made up of relatives of mine), costa rica (no family there), montreal, and across the united states. But I digress. The character's experience can make our lives richer, or help us to see all that we have to be grateful for. It must have helped me at some point early on, because I can't remember much more than a day going by without a book.

I guess my sleep deprivation is starting to catch up to me... But my answer was an honest one (if a bit long winded).

I read because its an escape from the real world

So this is kind of the story of how I learned to read.
I was 7 and my parents kept telling me I needed to learn how to read and I believed that I could not possibly understand all those squiggly lines.
My parents taught me how to read and the first "real" books I read (I am not counting all the Dr. Suess I read as real for this story) were Hardy boys and Nancy drew. I a few years I read Eregon and when I finished it I recited the whole plot to my parents in detail (I think I was 10 at the time) and they have always said they were surprised by my reading comprehension.
Now I can read any book you want to throw at me.
