If remade into another movie, heaven forbid, who do you think would play Rhett Butler?

Hugh Jackman is a good choice. But I just can't see Johnny as Rhett Butler. He is definitely a good actor, but he doesn't have the gravitas to play a scoundrel. However, I could see Johnny in the role of Ashley.

As far as Scarlett, we're all readers here, not the typical person who "knows" her only from the movie and thinks she was this gorgeous creature that the world came to know. "Scarlett O'Hara was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm..." Obviously she was pretty, but not Vivien Leigh stunning. It would still be hard to cast her. It'd be as much about acting ability with a role as important as Scarlett.

Jennifer Lawrence: Scarlett
Kristen Stuart: Melanie
Tom Felton: Ashley
I realize that this might cause some controversy....

Absolutely never

LOL, I love it! - And Larry David as Ashley Wilkes

With that said, I have a difficult time really thinking of a current actor who is talented enough and has the natural charm and cockiness and smoothness about about him to act out the duality in Rhett's character...
If I had to think of someone...perhaps Kiefer Sutherland. He's older and versatile and if his hair was changed he could possibly pull it off. Alexander Skarsgard with Black Hair. Hugh Jackman isn't too detrimental of an idea...When I consider Johnny Depp from movies like Public Enemies, he could possibly pull it off. Josh Brolin...

Reese Witherspoon, with that jimmy-jawed underbite does not qualify!

"
Would love Cillian Murphy as Rhett! or Colin Farrell.
I was thinking Katie McGrath for Scarlett. Ryan Gosling for Ashley.

Altair IV,

Well Margaret Mitchell did not have the perspective of someone living in the year 2018.

To all, I would like to read other people’s thoughts about this comment and kindly read and comment on my other comments: “Race” and GWTW, What would Melanie have said? and Thoughts on Gone With The Wind . . .” They are more positive.
Altair IV

Dwayne Johnson

Jean Dujardin (The Artist) was the first actor that came to mind when I read your question. Not only does he have "old Hollywood" good looks but I feel he is the modern version of how Margaret Mitchell described Rhett. But do you think if they remade it they would try to modernize it in some way or would they just try to rip off the original from 1939?
