April Abrams Yeah and then he refuses to remove his foot. Even though I thought she was stubborn not to try and compromise when she went back, when he just confirmed what hurt her to start I wanted to bang my head!

Crystal LOL! Yup!!

April Abrams Ok, maybe this gets answered, but why don't they just ask Lottie what's going on instead of sending in Ally? If it gets answered then ignore me. :)

Crystal OK, I'll ignore you! HAHAHA!

April Abrams Thanks. Lol!!!

April Abrams Irene, you read too damn fast! ;)

I think what he meant was he didn't think she had enough of what it takes (as in experience) to do it and be safe.

Get in line, girl! LOL!

He he!! I LOVE Joe!!!

April Abrams You're probably right, but it did come out in a way that would have crawled up my ass if I was her.

I skimmed and skipped a lot starting @ 50% and on. I can't believe I even skipped most of an epilogue. Can't stand Ally so I could give a shit about what happens 6 years later!

Crystal Yep, he's pretty damn hot!!

message 113: by April (new) - rated it 3 stars

April Abrams I would stand in that line. Happily. :P

I'm right behind you AA!!

April Abrams Ok, I'm in a happy Ren place again. That didn't last too long (says the girl who still has a long way to go).

~IreneOust~ My beef with Ally (one of MANY!) is that she is set in her ways and she refuses to give in. I get it. You want to be "badass" or whatever the fuck she is aiming to be but there comes a time in one's life (for some people it comes WAY before the age of 32, btw!) where you have to stop and ask yourself "how WILL this affect my partner/life/kids/etc in the future", no? The fact that HE has to accept her and what she IS and she has zero consideration for what HE says and all she gets from it is "Ren is a bad man because he doesn't believe in me" is one of the reasons I wish she'd get run over by a fucking freight train. I hate people who only hear what they want to hear.

EXACTLY!

April Abrams Such a way with words, Irene! And I agree. Totally. My only setback on Ren was that one phrase which I will be fuzzy on since not everyone is there yet. Up till he muttered that, I was completely pissed at her. There has to be some compromise and I'd have been disappointed in him if he hasn't objected. Lets face it... Lee would have been just as pissed at Indy and they would have dealt. Jules was a much better female badass I think. Positioning Ally as the sort if crusader she's being... Crusading in her own interest comes off as really selfish at times. If she had been given a motivation for someone else's benefit, it may have made her a stronger character I think. Like Jules doing it for the kids... Not just because she wanted to be a badass.

April Abrams Sorry for all the typos. Typing on an iPhone is a pain in the ass'

~IreneOust~ April, I think you nailed it re: doing it for greater purpose rather than for kicks. I want to reply to your post properly but I am on my iPad and its dying so I will have to do it tomorrow.

Just finished - I wished the 90% mark brought a little more drama BUT I really did enjoy the book... Ally was unlike any Rock Chick and I think her stubborn ass is really how KA wanted to portray her. Can't wait for the spin off series!!

Thanks for a wonderful BR ladies!! ;)

Crystal Krystal wrote: "Okay, so I have come to the conclusion that REN is NOT "Hot Bunch" material at all. Lee, Eddie, Hank, Luke, Vance, Hector & Mase would throw a SHIT FIT if one of their girls [spoilers removed]. Tha..."

Totally agree with this statement! None of the Hot Bunch would have stood for this. They would have locked their women up or handcuffed them to the bed. Ren is definitely not 100% alpha but he's still awesome :O)

Agreed! Is it just me, or did this book have a more serious feel to it. The Rock Chicks are always hilarious and this one just seemed more somber to me.

~IreneOust~ Glad you enjoyed it, ladies! I am really looking forward to a spin off series starring my favorite RC couple. I have to be honest though, in the last two of KA's releases, her females have gotten beyond annoying. I hope it's not a new trend.

~IreneOust~ As for your comments about Ren not being 100% alpha - look what happened when he told her he didn't want her doing her stint as a PI or whatever she likes to call her silly profession. She walks. He probably thought he'd save a lot of time and gas money by not chasing her every time she goes off somewhere after he tries to put his foot down and just let her be. Which is why he is awesome and she is a c*nt! LOL!

LMFAO!! Nice!!

~IreneOust~ Crystal, did you also not get a feeling that because Ren wasn't one of the Hot Bunch, Ally certainly made up for being one! Does this make sense? It's as if she was the macho one (I do what I want, Ren!) and he was a rock chick in this case (OK, Ally).

message 128: by [deleted user] (new)

Agree 100% with that Irene!!

message 129: by April (new) - rated it 3 stars

April Abrams Irene, I get the whole hot bunch, rock chick switch too. I think that's where the feeling he isn't 100% alpha comes in too. I think this story doesn't really follow the whole Rock Chick story line the way the others do and that's a little disappointing. I'm behind all of you ladies in progress so I have more to read, but I still have some issues with Ally's motivations which may sort out, i don't know. Why is she so quick to bounce when she doesn't feel 100% accepted? That reminds me of someone with abandonment issues which she has no cause for. Then there's the whole drive to be a badass. I love strong females. Love them. But I like it when there's a real reason for it. They're damaged and protecting themselves or they're seeking justice for someone less capable... There's just none of that here I can see and it is disappointing. Her being such a rogue badass brings his alpha quotient down a little which also sucks because Ren is a total hottie!

Crystal Yea, I got that feeling with the switch and also this didn't really feel like a true RC book. The Rock Chicks are all flightly, out to have a good time, etc. Ally was all business, almost a complete change from the first book.

~IreneOust~ AprilA wrote: "Why is she so quick to bounce when she doesn't feel 100% accepted? "

That is EXACTLY what I mean!! Never mind Ren, she was ready to walk out on her family (FAMILY!!!) if they were to reject her idea of being a PI. What gives?? As I said in my review, she expects everyone else to compromise yet desn't know the meaning of the word when it comes to her.

message 132: by April (new) - rated it 3 stars

April Abrams She's definitely not the Ally remember from Indy's book. She's not the Ally who burned rubber out of a drag show and wrecked her car. I miss tat wildness!

message 133: by April (new) - rated it 3 stars

April Abrams I'm commencing skimming. Where's the action? It feels like it is going so slow. :(

Crystal For me it was kind of anticlimactic. Yes there was some drama right at the end but still just ehh. Yes, Ally definitely seemed like a whole new character in this book compared to some of the previous books.

message 135: by April (new) - rated it 3 stars

April Abrams I'm FINALLY done! And I'm right there with you, Crystal. Ditto. I didn't hate Ally, but I was disappointed it didn't have the Rock Chick flavor I love so much and that I felt like there was some failure to provide Ally with proper motivations. There was a fair bit of lag in the middle too. :/ I'm looking forward to the other series though and hell, all of those books ses written and this is the first that hasn't been a really positive one for me. I'm still a KA fan for sure!

~IreneOust~ April, I am right there with you - still a KA fan and, as I said many times before, KA at her worst is still better than some of the books I've come across in the past. So all is good :)

message 137: by Ness (new) - rated it 4 stars
