SOLVED. Aussie Police Detective Series from 80s or 90s [s]

Unfortunately, I don't have much info to go on.
It was a series. I read 2 or 3 books in the series.
Set in contemporary times when written. Probably 80s or 90s.
Main character was a white male police detective. I think the stories were in the procedural style.
Set in one of the larger Australian cities.
I think the writer was male.
The only specific detail I remember is once the detective mentions Dolly Parton when thinking about a character with a similar personality.
That's all I've got. I looked through 2 lists of Aussie novels here on Goodreads, but didn't spot anything familiar.

ETA: It isn't the Napoleon Bonaparte novels.

I tried my library to see if I could get a list of books I've checked out in the past, but no luck. the search goes on. I was hoping by now another bit of info would have popped into my brain, but no.

I Googled on "australia police procedural novels" and turned up some places with various books listed; maybe some of those lists will be more helpful. (I tried again with "australian" and got more general lists, curiously.)

Hmmm, nothing familiar turning up so far, but the Garry Disher books look interesting. They're too new to be the ones I read, though.

What about the Scobie Malone series by Jon Cleary? Not sure if he ever mentioned Dolly Parton but its a good series, police procedural, set in Sydney.
