I have heard great things about this book - hope that I can get it from the library without too long a wait!
I have just read this and it is a powerful and emotive story tissues required though written in a way that is quite matter of fact and isn't manipulative of your feelings.

I'm so glad this is the first fiction read because I'm already reading it at the moment. I'll comment about it when I'm done :)

Hi Elaine, don't worry, we'll leave the thread open for anyone who wishes to add to it...
I've just finished it and I really enjoyed it. Am I too early to be posting thoughts on the plot and whatnot?
Jo wrote: "I've just finished it and I really enjoyed it. Am I too early to be posting thoughts on the plot and whatnot?"I think that it is okay to post your thoughts as long as you hide any major spoilers, since a lot of us won't be reading this until Sept. If you are unsure how to hide stuff, click on the "(some html is ok)" on the upper right corner of the comment box for help.
I think I'll wait until more people have read it and follow their lead :) can't wait for the discussions :)
I read this book when it first came out, but I want to go back and re-read it. I really enjoyed this book.
I bought it today at Half-Price Books, but I'll need to finish a few I'm currently reading before I start. Looks good!
Looking forward to starting this :-)
I am really liking this so far, I don't really know what to say about this but it's quite enchanting, the imagery is pretty.
They have The Light Between Oceans available at my local library in the large print section so once I go back, I will go check it out. I got to finish No Returnfirst. Btw, is it okay if I just participate in the nonfiction and fiction group reads? was just curious.

I'm going to pick up The Light Between Oceanson Sunday at the library with The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I heard it is a good read.
Although I could tell from the first couple of chapters that this would be a four/five star book.

I have the same "perplexities" we'll see reading it Paul.
I've just looked at the first chapter and seen it's well written. Maybe a bit ... sugary? We'll see!

I think I will hold off on posting my thoughts on it, they might spoil it for people who are still reading. But I am so glad I broke my book ban for it.
Just finished this, and wow what a powerful story. I ended up giving it a 4, but admit I was torn between a 4 and a 5 - if it was possible to award 4.5 I would! Like Alannah I'll wait a little bit to write down my thoughts - or at least wait until I'm near a computer and can hide spoilers. Really hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did, really great choice for the first group read
I'm going to start reading this tomorrow after I get it at the library. It's on my currently-reading shelf but only placed it on pg 1 cuz I haven't officially started it yet.
Got this on my kindle. Still reading Vanity Fair but this is next on my list when I've finished that. Is it a quick read?

I would say it is, took me about five days to read it.

It seems like the group have generally enjoyed it and got through it quite fast. I'm really looking forward to starting.
