If only we all had a lighthouse to go and stay in for a while. Had a holiday a few years ago in the lighthouse-keepers cottage at Whitby. It was wonderful.

That sounds like a holiday that would be perfect for me. Although at the minute I think it would be perfect to go on my own with dogs, haha.

This book was truly lovely. I really enjoyed it. It was so moving and well-written for me. I was terribly disappointed in the film though. I couldn't even finish it, it was so dull.
I read this in September 2013 and really enjoyed it. It was very atmospheric and nearly claustrophobic. Anyone seen the film?

Like others, I didn't find Isabel the most sympathetic of characters. I really wanted to like her, but every time I started warming to her, she did something that changed my mind. I do wonder if this was a deliberate characterisation on the authors part - there seems to be a lot of moral ambiguity surrounding Isabel's decision, and she is never presented as especially 'good' or especially 'bad', leaving it to readers to make up their mind.
I really liked the writing style, and enjoyed reading this book all the way through, although I did find the ending a bit weak. (view spoiler)[ In some ways, I think I would have preferred the book to end at the point where Lucy-Grace is handed back to Hannah permanently, although I guess it is reassuring for the reader to know that this whole episode didn't have a negative impact on the rest of the her, or Tom and Isabel's, life.
