Yup, librarian manual contains all the policies and standards (and all librarians told from the very beginning to either memorize or at least look up something if forgotten; post questions in this group before making edits if unsure). Books never get to right profiles if author names not standard. Probably a lot of editions to be combined where author names get merged after removing space.

I agree in U.S. English that the most used style guides disagree (well, when not talking about authors on book covers) but suspect policy probably started because of the number of book covers or existing profiles/data-feeds that do/don't space initials factoring in the original decision.

Manual actually says:

* There should be a period after each initial.
* There should be no spaces between consecutive initials.
* There should be one space (excepting disambiguation) between an initial and a non-initial.
