Jack was taken in the Everneath instead of Nikki. He sacrificed himself. And it was really sad, they weren't together most of the first book and I think on this one too.

Me too! The author really has this way on emotions. I', a bit emotional while reading it!

Yeah, that day on graduation? Jack's mother is so angry, but somehow I understand her. She doesn't even have an idea where Jack is.

At first, I don't like the idea of her going with Cole to the Everneath. But now, it makes me sad to see the different side of Cole, he really loves Nikki.

I agree! Even though Jack and Nik are not together, their memories are exciting and heartbreaking at the same time. But I can also feel that Cole's hurting. :(

(view spoiler)[Am I heartless? I couldn't care less if Nikki died!! She's very reckless and just does whatever she likes in the Everneath despite people telling her to be careful. Cole has already saved her a bajillion times, it's getting really old reading about it. For goodness sake Nikki, get a grip!

I don't see what Cole sees in her if he's supposed to love her for her (and not because she can help him overthrow the Everneath queen) cos she's super annoying...

The storytelling of Jack and Nikki's times together are sweet but I wish they were a bit longer because the main storyline is really depressing. Reading this kinda reminds me of reading New Moon because the majority of the book is about the character being depressed and doing dangerous things without using her brain. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I understand she wants to save Jack but I think Nikki is rushing it. I think she needs to slow down and listen to Cole. I think she needs to grow up too. Maybe if she slows down and grows up she can work with Cole on getting Jack out. (hide spoiler)]

@Noella We need to find one we both like then! But don't worry this one is getting on my nerves at the moment. Nikki bugs me. I have not read your second spoiler because I'm not at chapter 20 yet. I hope to get some reading done when the kids I babysit take a nap tomorrow (today really for me cause it's 12AM).

I like it really with the hope that it gets better. So far the first book is my favorite.

(view spoiler)[So Nikki attempts to save Max and Cole from getting killed by the Wanderers but in the end she's passed out somewhere and it appears Cole and Max saved her? I also find it disturbing she only thinks about her dad and brother when she feels on the brink of death. The way she treats Cole is yuck. She knows she's got influence over him and keeps yapping about how she's supposed to hate him but there's this attraction. Ugh I wish I wasn't in her head because she's making me go insane with rage and irritation.

There was one scene I liked which was the whole Siren situation. I also like the execution of the novel; when Nikki loses her grip on the mission of saving Jack she tells a memory so she can restore her tether. My dislike of Nikki though outweighs the pros. (hide spoiler)]

I've never really liked Mrs Jenkins but the way she died was too gruesome (what was even the point of making her death look like that? It's sure to arouse suspicions and draw attention).

Is the something wrong with Jack? Nikki keeps telling us he's bigger and taller. Definitely sounds strange. (hide spoiler)]

I LOVE Cole and even Max. It took some time for me to like Max but I'm really starting to like him.

Nikki needs to grow up and act like an adult. I don't see what either boy sees in her.

The background stories are great but I agree they need to be longer or have more.
