I do always mean to read the plays but they slip down my tbr list. I do think it's a good feature, maybe we could advertise it more

I've read a few myself along with the group and do enjoy them (Loot, The Imaginary Invalid, maybe another one too)! I missed out on Anna Christie because my life got complicated, but I still intend to read Uncle Vanya.

I do kind of like Sandy's idea of having drama have its own main grouping along with fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Might be easier to prevent it from getting lost. All the work you've been doing on the thread is appreciated though Leslie!

message 803: by Pink (new)

Pink I like having the plays too, but agree with Sandy that it might be better highlighted elsewhere if we keep it. I didn't join in with Uncle Vanya, though I did read the comment thread and I have read a couple of the previous plays, which I wouldn't have done at all without this feature. Perhaps we could move it near the seasonal author folder, as the plays run seasonally too?

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments Admit it Leslie, you could sense I was planning to start lobbying for August Wilson & Lillian Hellman as picks for next year and you're trying to put a stop to that. ;)

In all seriousness while I agree that plays aren't very popular, I still do like having them as an option. I also agree that they need to be on their own someplace because I've forgotten where they even are at times, and truthfully I've often skipped posting things on the general play thread just because I was feeling too lazy to have to go searching through the fiction threads to find it.

LOL! Both excellent choices :)

I'll discuss having a separate area for drama with the other moderators but it sounds like a good idea.

How odd Evelyn, there doesn't seem to be one. Not sure if the thread was somehow accidentally deleted or if we missed creating it.

In any case, I created a thread we can use at:

message 816: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments copied from a thread by Jean in another group:

I've just had a message from the "Moderator Support Group" which tells me that about a week ago Goodreads was affected by a bug which caused some groups to disappear! Yikes! Luckily, "Reading For Pleasure" was not affected.

Goodreads themselves recently said they were able to find a way to retrieve the backup information they needed to restore the groups, but that it was a slow process which would take several days.

It seems to have affected randomly - some groups were small and other over 9K. This link is to an interesting discussion!

It might be as well first to check that are the groups you are in are still there, and also, most importantly to SAVE anything you might have put a lot of work into, or comments you don't want to lose etc.

We all know there are bugs in Goodreads, and I bet I'm not the only one who shouts at the screen sometimes ... but this one seemed too important not to share info about. Hopefully it has passed us by :)

Leslie | 16369 comments B the BookAddict wrote: "Are the Mods aware of the above problem?"

I just found out about it. Thanks for copying over Jean's post as that had more info.

message 820: by Bionic Jean (last edited Jul 10, 2015 03:59PM) (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Bette has only copied part of my post. I went on to ask Greg and other mods of groups to tell their groups - but Bette has pipped him at the post ;)

I would have phrased it slightly differently if I had posted here of course. That post is directed at members of another group, not mods in this one!! Plus you don't have the link - let me know if you want it.

Edit - It might be a good idea if at least one of the mods here joined the "Moderator Support Group" - especially in a group this size. One of the groups which disappeared was nearing 10 thousand members. Imagine all that work gone!

Sorry I dropped the ball on this one a bit :) I'm on vacation in San Diego; so my online time has been a bit spotty. It is pretty terrifying though, the idea of losing all our wonderful posts and information!

message 822: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Not at all Greg! :) Enjoy your vacation!!

I just thought I needed to explain why I hadn't actually just cut and pasted like Bette did. I would probably have written a tailored post a few hours later to put in an appropriate thread anyway.

I'll get off this "Questions" thread now.

message 823: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) | 8315 comments I hadn't seen the info here in AAB so took advantage of Jean's knowledge. Cut and paste seemed the most reasonable thing to do as I hadn't had the knowledge first hand.

message 826: by amber (new)

amber (thelittlematchgirl) | 371 comments I feel I should point out the moderators group didn't know anything about it until a week after it happened, so being in that group wouldn't make much of a difference.

message 827: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Yes, a week after the actual event, as I had said in my initial post. But if I had not been in the "Moderators Support Group", then neither Bette nor I could have shared the info.

It's the fact that it can happen that worries us all I think. Always better to be informed surely ...

Jean my point about the week is that if your concern is the moderators staying on top of group issues on goodreads joining a group that was unaware of the issue for a week after it happened rather then the one that knew about it when it happened isn't going to be very helpful. It might have been helpful to inform people on mass at the onset because people could let their affected friends know, but informing people in the middle of the situation is more likely to send them into a tizzy for no reason then it is to help. Plus the people pushing it are the same ones who have been going out of their way to make the situation as hostile as possible from the beginning. It's also worth noting that there already are AAB mods in the moderators group.

message 836: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 16369 comments Update on the disappearing groups situation, garnered from one of my other groups:

As of July 13th, they were beginning to restore the missing groups. Here is the comment:

"I saw an update from Meghan today that indicates that they will be able restore all the missing groups, from which I infer the comments and threads will be restored as well. Some good news at least. Too bad they won't do anything to let everyone know."

From that I infer that we won't have to worry about more groups (such as this one!) disappearing.

message 837: by Bionic Jean (new)

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) That's good news, thanks Leslie!

Greg - it's good to hear that one of you might be joining the "Moderators Support" group, since Jenny, the only mod currently in it, is on sabbatical.

Thank you! It's always so irritating when people with fake profiles invade the nomination topics with their annoying promotion. It makes me want to go and give 1 star to all of the author's books - but I refrain because that would be insane. You moderators however are always on top of it, thank you for your work :)
