Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Not telling, it's a secret.

message 2: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Not enough. Used to be between 8 and 10, before I started writing and working more hours.

message 3: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments A lot. But some I proofread and read twice so it's really hard to generalise.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Well so far this year I am averaging one book per day, some have been short stories though.

When I used to rely on library books I would visit the library two or three times per week, so I would say that I was reading at the same speed then as now.

Thank heavens for kindles - I used to pack half a dozen (minimum) books for reading on holiday, read books my friend had taken and also manage to find second hand book shops to top up whilst away.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments The screen on the fire isn't as nice to read on, Caz. In my opinion, anyway. I know I can't read for long on my iPad.

I read anything from a book a day to one in a month, depending on the length of the book and what's going on in my life.

I always have at least one book on the go though. Usually two or three.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've got a lighted cover for my baby kindle. Works a treat.

But I'm gonna buy the paper white when I need a new one.

message 7: by Emma (new)

Emma (emzibah) | 4125 comments Yeah I think the paperwhite is the way to go, that will be my next one when my KK dies!

As for books, like Patti I can sometimes only read one book in a month and sometimes can read loads, really depends on my mood, the book I am reading (some need savouring but some I struggle to finish) and what else is going on in my life

message 8: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Generally I read 1 - 3 books a week, depending on size and format. I usually have an audiobook on the go as well as Kindle/DTB. That number can go down (but rarely up) depending on what else is going on in life.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I'm still not convinced re the paperwhite. Hopefully with my KK and almost new baby kindle I'm OK for quite a while. But it would probably be another baby kindle if one had to be replaced.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, I know what you mean Janet but I saw loads of paper whites in use on our flights recently and they really look good.

Don't need an expensive lighted cover either.

But like you, I've still got both my kk and baby going strong.

message 11: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Depends on what else I am involved in at the time but last year I read 343 (some short stories and novellas).
I was a chronic insomniac so read mostly during the night however my sleep pattern has slowly been improving so this year I have been reading an average of 17 books a month(mostly full size works).

I don't have a lighted cover for either so that isn't a factor for me.
If I read on the laptop using the cloud reader I have the setting to sepia as I find that is better.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Oh great news about your sleep Sarah!!!

message 14: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I took 33 days to read the 26 books in my alphabet challenge and my previous GR challenges have been about 120+ a year.
So about 20 a month.
And if I didn't spend so much time aimlessly surfing the net, then probably more.
I tend to not read in the lounge in the evenings as hubby doesn't like the light on and it's a bit too dim and my lighted cover is upstairs, so I'm seriously considering paperwhite if my beloved KK breaks. Although I'm not a touchscreen fan, I like my clicks.

message 15: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Thanks Patti :@)!

message 16: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm going to average about 1 this month. Although I am now 75% through War and Peace :o)

message 17: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I'm going to average about half a book, though it is 760 pages.

message 18: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I am lucky if I manage a book in a month. I don't know how everyone manages it, I really don't. Mind you, a lot of the time that I would use reading ends up going on the writing.

message 19: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I read on average about 5 books a month.

For the record, it took me ages to get used to my paperwhite but I adore it now.

message 20: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Last year I read about 15 a month

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Jud (Disney Diva) wrote: "Last year I read about 15 a month"

Feels like you read a lot more than that in a month.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Darren wrote: "I am lucky if I manage a book in a month. I don't know how everyone manages it, I really don't. Mind you, a lot of the time that I would use reading ends up going on the writing."

And that's as it should be, buddy boy.

Now if we could just get you away from in front of the telly, as well...

I only watch telly in the name of research.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I think you're perfectly capable of describing cleavage and blowing shit up without 'research'.

message 25: by Simon (new)

Simon Jenner (simon_jenner) | 112 comments About one book per week, but I wish it was more.

message 26: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments A lot of my reading is in the name of research. Reference books (the Junior Arsonists Book of Matches for example) are obvious, but genre books too - you've got to keep an eye on what the other guy is writing...

Sciffy of course is purely for pleasure. :)

message 27: by Victoria (new)

Victoria | 2 comments Probably about 2 but I get about 20 out the library each month.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments In the winter, three or four books a week. In the summer, usually only one or perhaps two. I am a really fast reader though :0) Used to be a lot more but life, work and kids kind of take over. And all the reviewing has more or less fallen by the wayside!

message 29: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I can read really fast as well!

message 30: by Elaine (new)

Elaine | 145 comments I would say I read about 12 to 15 books a month. I read the way other people watch tv!

message 31: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments What is TV?

I read two or 3 books a week. My excuse for such poor performance is that I write a lot, too

message 32: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Well that's weird.

What happened to the person who started the thread...?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Looks like she decided to delete her account.

She did say she had another account that she'd forgotten the email and password for. Hopefully she sorted it out and will be back.

message 34: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Perhaps reading something other than this thread.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Last year I was reading about two books a week, mainly shorts. This year I've read 16, 7 books behind. I read more in the summr, I can sit out and read a book in a day. Life is just really hectic at the moment though, aand struggling to concentrate

message 36: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Michael looks like he has started this thread just to be annoying and say no LOL

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Elle wrote: "Michael looks like he has started this thread just to be annoying and say no LOL"

Wouldn't put something like that past him. ;)

message 38: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Don't give him ideas!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments He knows I'd crush him like a bug.

Right, Mikey? ;)

So how does a bug crush someone?

Awful joke opportunity: a bug can crush somebody by using a caterpillar to run them over...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ha! Good one RMF!

You are crushable too Darren.

*squish*

message 43: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I think it's time to resurrect the Super Thread for Super People who didn't go to the noob meet up thread.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yeah, go on Mike.

You'll find it in the sin bin. ;)

I was hoping for a groan :)

message 46: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Lol you guys make me giggle!

message 47: by Kat (new)

Kat (bookworm2017) It depends on the length of the book and how much I'm enjoying them. Last month I read 10 books, but I average between 6-8 a month.

message 48: by Steven (new)

Steven | 173 comments probably 4 or 5 but depends on the length of the book.

message 49: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments So who's going to make the joke about the crushed grape who let out a little wine. Mwah ha ha hargh. I've had a Jim Webster orgy and finished two of his this week, now I've started on the Man from U.N.D.E.A.D.

Basically I read about 15 books a year, 10 in the summer holidays and 5 in the other two but like Darren I tend to spend the time I'd be reading, if I was a normal, churning out tripe and then wading through it with an editing pencil...

Cheers

MTM
