love the book but if you look at from the point in time it is not the first book
the very first is Earth unaware see here

Knowing the author there's every chance that this posting needs an update in another 10 years, because he has written another series set in the same universe, but slightly before Earth Unaware, and otherwise he might re-write Earth Unaware soo it fits even better in the Ender/Bean universe.

You should read it in the order written, not the timeline. Earth Unaware is a prequel.
