Cate seems nice, but I wonder if she is really trying to help Ruby. And I am not completely sure what her power really is. I still can't figure out if Cate is really on their side or not. She seems nice enough but almost too nice. Too sincere. She seems to want Ruby and Martin to help their cause with their powers. Gosh, I feel so bad for Ruby. Liam, Chubbs, and Zu question her about why the Children's League wanted her and she finds out that they had only been at their camps for a year or two each when she had been at hers for six. And their camp seemed way less strict. Thurmond definitely seems more hardcore. I wonder if they were really testing on the kids like they thought. And if so, did they test on Ruby too? 85% (view spoiler)[Wow. I felt like Clancy was bad business as soon as he came into the story. He seemed drawn to Ruby, but not in a good way. In a controlling way. The way that he used his power to take advantage of her was disgusting. I am almost glad that we don't really know from the text if he just felt her up and kisses her or if he did more. The worse part is that he used his power to make her want that or try to. I hope that karma kicks his ass in the end for what he did to Ruby. And the way that he had the other kid beat Liam just broke my heart. The way that he looks down on the other colors is sickening. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! (view spoiler)[OMG, so much happened at the end. After Clancy had Liam beat up, he tried to trick Ruby into coming to him. She knew it was a trick but went anyway because she thought that she could use her power on him so they could escape. My heart was bursting when Chubbs came and rescued her. I have really come to love his character in this book. When they took the letter to Jack's father and was shot I felt destroyed inside. And of course, the book ended without us knowing if he made it out alive. I am definitely going to start reading the second book next. It's been a while since I've had a strong urge to immediately continue a book series immediately instead of waiting. Though I understand Ruby's reasoning for it, I was distraught when she took Liam's memories of her to keep him safe. I really loved this book! And I listened to it on audio so the accents (especially Liam's southern accent) really stood out and made the story that much better. (hide spoiler)]
