What did you think of it?

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I am reading this right now and am really enjoying it. I find Cassie a hilarious and attentive narrator, you don't get bored at all. Just sometimes all of the flashbacks and movements to the present are a bit confusing. I am confused about who exactly "Sissy" is? Because I thought it was just Cassie and Sammy? Or maybe I'm just missing something, idk, all I know is that this book is AWESOME!

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments Oh haha haha, I just realized part 2 switched view points, OOPS! That explains a lot :) anyways still very awesome!

Laura | 22 comments Went to the bookshop today and purchased this. I can't wait to start reading it!

Lilly (arlyn85) I'm about half way through the book now. Not really sure if I like it or not yet, to be honest. It took a really long time to build and get interesting. I find the writing a little disjointed, it's sort of like reading someone's thought processes as it happens. I guess we'll see if that's a good or a bad thing as I'm nearing the end.

Cassie Richardson Bought this book yesterday. Been on my tbr for a while. Can't wait to read it!

Jennifer (jenniferlovesbooks070911) This took a little while to get going...plus figuring out that each part was a different POV lol. I really liked the characters...love how the different stories fell together at the end. Kinda sucks we have to wait a year for book 2 ESP since we don't know what happened to Evan!

message 8: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Stefaniak | 3 comments I thought it was a well written book. I thought Cassie's character was funny and unique to the book. Not sure that I like Evan though. Other than that I loved it!

Justine | 9 comments I feel like I am the only person in the world who feels this way but I actually am not liking this book. It was a hyped up so much and I am finding it to be somewhat of a disappointment.

Justine | 9 comments Lilly wrote: "I'm about half way through the book now. Not really sure if I like it or not yet, to be honest. It took a really long time to build and get interesting. I find the writing a little disjointed, it's..."

I agree with you completely Lilly.

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I think it is very wellwritten but I wish Yancey put who the person narrating is to avoid confusion.

Alessa Ellefson Stormy wrote: "I think it is very wellwritten but I wish Yancey put who the person narrating is to avoid confusion."

I totally agree with you! When he first made a POV change, I was really confused! But then I kinda got used to it.

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I just recently finished this! I loved it! Cassie is a very strong and sarcastic heroine, plus very bada**! Evan and Ben are both very crush worthy, but I really hope there won't be a love triangle. I think that Ben and Ringer belong together, then of course Evan and Cassie! I cannot wait till the next book, can't believe I have to wait a year!!!

I read this awhile ago and I loved it! The only thing that bothered me was the romance between Cassie and Evan.

grimple ᵔᴥᵔ | 46 comments I finished this last night and I liked it. I loved the different POVs and personalities. I also liked Cassie's humor; I would randomly start giggling at my book at 2am haha. However, I didn't think it was any better than other 'post apocalypse' stories/movies I've read/seen. Not as action-packed for a world invaded by aliens haha. Also the fact that the aliens kill the humans in 5 waves is strange. Why would they go through all the trouble of making a human army instead of just killing them with their advanced technology?..

message 16: by Kim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kim Zarins (httpgoodreadscomkimzarins) Stormy asked who Sissy is--she is Ben's little sister. Does that make sense? There are lots of shifts of point of view, but I loved them--I liked seeing other angles within the world. But Cassie's voice was the best of all. I don't see a triangle happening, but I felt anxious that the book ended and we didn't know if Evan was okay or had been blown up. Need Book 2 now!

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments Thanks Kim. Yeah I figured that out at the end of part two, it was one of those brain fart moments lol! I really need the 2nd book!!

Isabella (bellavinter) | 47 comments It's a pretty good book, but it bothered me how the alternating POV all thought the same thing about everything...

Cinthia (cinthiah) Erika wrote: "I read this awhile ago and I loved it! The only thing that bothered me was the romance between Cassie and Evan."
What bothered you about it? I personally liked it. I liked that Evan was torn up about it at first.

message 20: by Kim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kim Zarins (httpgoodreadscomkimzarins) Isabella wrote, "it bothered me how the alternating POV all thought the same thing about everything... " Did you mean all the POVs? I thought Sammy's was unique (see my review which is pretty much praising the shifts of POV), and Evan of course was all torn up about Cassie. Cassie and Ben both have a world crisis to worry about, but Cassie seemed to have more humor and defiance. How did you see it? I think if we didn't get the shifts of POV, Evan and Cassie's relationship would be less convincing, because we wouldn't see Evan's struggle with his loyalties and his feelings for her.

Lilly (arlyn85) I think what Isabella meant was that at different parts of the story, Cassie and Ben both thought the exact same phrase about very different situations (word for word). And I don't mean regular phrases that you find in every day life, but phrases I've never heard before. I would forgive the author for doing that once or twice, but the amount of times this happens... it just doesn't happen. But I agree, Sammy's POV, however short, was unique.

Lisa Lamere-krzysiak (lisajean7870) | 6 comments I want to read The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave, #1) by Rick Yancey but have to wait till I read City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare and have to wait to read that till I get it for one and until I finish the Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie , Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie , Reached (Matched, #3) by Ally Condie series

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments Sammy's POV didn't do much for me. I found the 3rd person present tense Yancey was using a bit awkward. However, overall Yancey did a great job of making each POV unique, in my opinion.

Samantha | 37 comments I really enjoyed this book! The multiple changes in the POV's were definitely unique (even if they were difficult to follow at first). Cassie was a hilarious character and managed to add some humour in such a serious atmosphere. All in all, I thought it was a great book that never left me bored. I have always been skeptical about reading alien books, but the 5th Wave has proven to be really great!!

message 25: by Kim (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kim Zarins (httpgoodreadscomkimzarins) I'm with Samantha. When I heard about the book, I thought it would be a let-down, with the whole alien-takeover thing. But it was so different from what I was expecting. I liked how the aliens weren't green, etc., and I liked how you never meet them as they really are. It's like the Sauron concept--just enough glimpses to make you terrified.

Amy | 6 comments I really enjoyed the book, but really hated the ending. It really was a cool book, and I love how it was constantly changing viewpoints. I love that the author painted a very realistic picture of what could happen. There was no sugar coating anything. If you have not read it, you should!

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments I felt like the ending was really rushed. Also, I hate the cliffhanger!!! It's forever until the next one comes out!

Hallie (hallie_louise) | 278 comments LOVED IT, cant wait for the next book!

Minken I love this book full-heartedly! The next book is coming out next year and I can't wait!!! The title just got release and it's called The Infinite Sea. Awesome!
I don't know who I would like to be with Cassie, though. I like Ben AND Evan, but I think if Cassie and Ben got some more bonding time that could get very cute fast. Anyone else feel the same?

message 30: by Katelin (new)

Katelin (katiesbookjourney) | 6 comments I loved this book

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments OMG the infinite sea! Such a cool name!!! Can't wait :) I would really like Ben and Cassie but I feel like Ben and the other girl, god why can't I remember her name! I liked her a lot too! Yeah that girl, they should be together :)

Stormy :) (Stormy0218) | 1589 comments Ringer! That's her name! Lol :)

Kristina I can't wait for book 2. I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I liked the authors writing and story telling. I was engaged in the world he created.

William (throneoffandoms) | 60 comments I was a little disappointed, i think it could've explained some things better and a little more exciting...however i loved the characters and i will be continuing the series.

Chloe Jane | 15 comments I loved it. Can't wait to continue with the series (:

Micah, I'm with you--I usually steer clear of aliens, but FIFTH WAVE is different, more about us than them, more about losing humanity even as you fight for it, if that makes sense, or you can see my review to get those thoughts fleshed out. It's a terrific book!

It's about an alien invasion, and I know most people tend to stay away from alien books (myself included), but trust me and everyone who has recommended this book to you because this is not your average alien book. It's totally mind blowing!

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

This book got kind of slow for me it kind of went downhill. I wanted to hear about Cassie and not Ben. Then it went from that to I want to hear about Ben not Cassie but after that it got better :)

Thanks, I have it on hold at the library but it's taking forever to ship!

message 46: by Allie (new)

Allie (allieischill) Is there really going to be a second book!? I loved everything until the ending... But if there's a second one then I MUST get my hands on it when it's out!

message 47: by Emily (new)

Emily Roden | 1 comments It was a bit slow at the beginning, but as the story unravels it becomes a lot better.

Kageyama Tobio (kageyamatobio) | 34 comments Starts slow, but it gets interesting as hell towards the middle-ending.
I did get confused when the POV's changed. I was reading Ben's as Cassie's and I got so confused. Had to reread the whole book to understand it.

message 49: by Sara (new) - rated it 3 stars

Sara | 6 comments I got a little confused and couldnt connect with any of the characters :( Maybe Ill try re-reading it :)

Kageyama Tobio (kageyamatobio) | 34 comments Sara wrote: "I got a little confused and couldnt connect with any of the characters :( Maybe Ill try re-reading it :)"

Yeah, I did to. It's better if you read it a second time and you understand how there's different POVs
