I read the first one earlier this year, but I'm going to follow the discussion. I'm still not entirely sure how much I liked it. And if anyone wants to keep going, I'd join. :)
For me, this was the "worse" book of the series, and I liked it, a lot! It keeps getting better.
This is commonly true for books at the start of the series. I know a lot of people say that about Storm Front of the Dresden Files, for example.

There is an anthology, I'll have to see if I can find it, I think I own it, but it has an excellent explanation (better I believe than the first book) about the world this book is set in.
If you like the series, it's worth subscribing to the newsletter, the have candy. Okay not candy, but its just as good because they'll tell you what's happening and when things will be released.
I will try to squeeze it as the series looks really interested. Lisarenee, is the anthology you were writing about called Hexed, by any chance?

Welcome Heather! Be careful. The buddy reads can get addictive. I just finished my first one a few days ago and I enjoyed it so much I've signed up for six more!

Welcome to Kate Daniels world!I added the "discussion schedule". Since this one is a more relaxed buddy read, I'll be posting mostly comments instead of questions, so anyone can add their two cents event if they couldn't resist to read further.
Thanks for the schedule, I may be a bit slower because I'm also joining the Eternity Cure buddy read and they overlap a little.
I know... I'll be doing both too... I tried not to overlap but the Eternity Cure has too many pages to read in three-four days :(

I definitely prefer the comments instead of questions style buddy reads from my experience.
Wowee, though, we've got a lot of new buddy readers with us for this one! Reckon there's going to be heaps of amazing conversation.
I too will be reading slower since I have Tamora Pierce and David Nicholls' One Day both vying for my attention through buddy reads within a handful of days.
I might get a jump start on this one and start reading the first section tomorrow. :) give myself a little head start so I don't get behind the first day like usual haha.
I was thinking of doing exactly the same thing, especially after I've noticed how much we're supposed to read each day for this buddy read!

What is a Buddy Read?
This is an "Relaxed Buddy Read"
A “Relaxed Buddy Read” is similar to our usual “buddy reads” except there are less questions and break points. For example, a book may be split into three sections and those reading the book should pause at the end of the section to answer some discussion questions, make comments, or ask their own questions to other readers. An example is here.
Book synposis
When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.
Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate's guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta's magic circles.
