Wendy | 131 comments I just finished my 2nd "just because" book, Rooftops of Tehran on my morning commute. I'm holding off on a review for now since I don't think I would recommend it, unless someone had an earnest interest in iranian culture/literature. I don't know what I would like to read next but I am sure I will find something at the library tonight...

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I'm sorry that I failed to use the add book/author feature. I am usually in a rush to post my message in between other things. I will try to do this in the future but I can't promise.

It occurred to me that you may have a mobile app which doesn't allow the links, so I just went ahead and added the link on your behalf.

Apparently I have been reporting in the wrong thread (thank you Janice!). My first book I read just before joining this group but I figured since I read it "just because" it counts towards the challenge? Anyhow that first title was All Our Worldly Goods...

I have this one in my office waiting for me to pick it up and read it. I just cannot seem to get to it.

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I was planning the read The Name of the Wind as my 2nd book but my copy King of Thorns arrived today. So I am reading the few pages I have left of my N book and i am plunging into it, just because i cannot wait to see if I am going to devour it although I should hate it as happened with the 1st book in this series.

Marie Claude (mariecg2001) | 1030 comments Just finished Deadly Forecast, and I read it "just because" :)

It was nice to get some MJ in an Abby book :) I wonder if we'll get to see Abby in the next MJ!

Abby, Dutch and friends are investigating bombings in which the bombers are not who you would imagine as bombers. And all that at the same time they are trying to keep Abby's sister in check regarding their wedding. The story is told in 2 parallel timelines, and clues are given all along both of them, which I thought was well thought and well done.

I gave it 4*

Thanks Janice but it is clearly my fault. I don't use a mobile app for the most part when I post to Goodreads. I just must try to remember to do this and take a bit more time.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I raced through one of Harlan Coben's young adult book featuring Myron Bolitar's (a series which fearures this sports agent turned sleuth) nephew Mickey. I read Coben's books cause he grew up not far from us and always mentioned places I am familiar with ion his books. This is the second book Coben's written about featuring this high school student and the title is
Seconds Away

Seconds Away (Mickey Bolitar, #2) by Harlan Coben

Well I hope it becomes second nature to me too, Janice.

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments As I'm quite new to the whole group and challenges and book club reading on good reads, all books I read are 'just because'. I'm now reading Stupid and Contagious but started it before I knew of this challenge.

I think I'll read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society next, for this challenge, just because I'd like to read some historical fiction again :)

message 63: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I am currently reading The Lavender Garden by Lucinda Riley because it's on my Kindle and we're on our way to Boston for the weekend and its so convenient to read from this in the car. Also because I have chosen it for one of my challenges.

If you started Stupid and Contagious after August 1st, you may count it towards the challenge.

message 65: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Oh cool! Yes, I did, I only started it the day before yesterday :)

message 66: by Marcus (new)

Marcus | 862 comments Finished: Astonishing X-Men Trilogy Collection which I read because I have been getting into graphic novels a little lately but am relatively picky so far and because I have always loved the X-men. I saw this and thought "what the heck" and it was a nice relaxing read with a pretty decent story that helped fill in the spaces when my brain needed some light reading with pictures :-)

message 67: by Valerie (new)

Valerie | 13 comments I've just finished my first "Just Because" book Madame Bovary's Daughter A Novel by Linda Urbach . I really enjoyed it. I love historical books!!

I read this book just because I had just finished Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert and I wanted to find out what happened to Madame Bovary's daughter.

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Yay for picture books! Or as we grown ups call them, graphic novels :P

message 69: by Alexandra (new)

Alexandra (alex2911) | 664 comments I have finished my first "just because" book - In the Dark.
It was a free download from amazon so I just gave it a try.
I did not like it, it was way too creepy for my taste but that might be my fault as it seems to be classifiéd as "horror" and I started reading it without having read the description first... Oh well. It just caused me a fight with my husband about having the lights turned on at night and one night of bad sleep (he won) :-).

message 70: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I finished my first book for the challenge too! I read Stupid and Contagious and I really really enjoyed it. It was witty and made me laugh and I liked the characters and I also liked how the book was written. I'm going to add Caprice Crane's other books to my to-read list now.

something to listen to while i was doing uninteresting house chores. And i usually like this series. Did not care about this one tough.

I read it 'just because' it had been sitting on my TBR pile for months and I was really in the mood for reading it now. Here is my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

I agree with you both. I spend more time looking at the pictures and forget what was said on the page before and have to go back a couple of pages to pick up the thread. I haven't read many - just those my granddaughter leaves laying around. Can't say that I have liked many of the stories but the artwork is beautifully done in most.

Jkmays My "Just because" book was City of Women. it had been on my kindle for a while so this was the time to break it open. GOod book...thought provoking.

What did you think of it? I've had it on my iPad for awhile as well.

message 85: by Jkmays (new)

Jkmays I actually had trouble getting into it at first...it jumped around timewise at the beginning and I didn't have time to sit down and read for a block of time. So, knowing that it was supposed to be really good, I started over and was glad I did. It addressed WWII from a perspective that I hadn't thought of before. Well worth the time to read it.

Somewhere In Time and

message 89: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59887 comments I finished my selection for the challenge, Three to Get Lei'd. What a perfect read while here in Hawaii! I marked it as humour as well as mystery because I found it quite amusing throughout. I will definitely read more in the series.

message 90: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I just finished The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, just because :)

message 91: by Esther (last edited Aug 22, 2013 04:04AM) (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments I just finished King of Thorns, just because the paperback edition was release and i really liked the first one of the series (Broken Empire) although i should have hated it, really. And am I glad. Mark Lawrence just made my list of my favorite fantasy writers of the 2000's.

This is my 3rd and I expect the last of my just because books. My next books are toppler's and alphabet challenge, one for the monthly family saga and a RL buddy read.

message 92: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) My latest just because book was The Lavender Garden. I read this because it was for a challenge. Come to think of it most of my books are "just because" because they are. LOL

message 93: by Ann (new)

Ann (disciple45) My 2nd just because was Cousin Bette because it was just sitting on my shelf! Here's my review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/... I may try for another one since I still have time before and after the Toppler!

message 94: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Oh on the Patrick Rothfuss/ The Name of the Wind convo. I found this tonight and it made me laugh. Rothfuss has released his title of the book, The Doors of Stone. He hasn't finished writing it, but it has 4.7 stars on goodreads due to morons rating the book before it's written, let alone released!!

So he responded with his own review of his own book http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

message 95: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Haha :D Why does goodreads not make it impossible to rate books before they're published? This doesn't make sense.

I did add the first book of the series to my TBR now though!

Thanks. This is a good one. Name of the Wind is sitting by my bed. I decided to keep it for my R book. I need to read out of this genre after the Lawrence i just finished. But this makes me want to read it even more.
