I haven't actually read the book, but I read the back. Here is what I remember: It's about a girl who is around 14 years old, and she just figured out from a doctors visit that she is about to go deaf. So then she must go to a school to learn ASL. Thanks so much for any replys you guys can give!!

Sam~~ we cannot see the moon, and yet the waves still rise~~ | 139 comments there's a thread on here for people looking for books with deaf characters/ASL. so maybe your book would be on that list? just a thought.

bookel | 4028 comments Yeah do check that thread. Under requests for books or whatever it's called. I suggested Jody by Deborah Kent; can't recall if that fits exactly but she is going deaf. When did you read the blurb?

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I read it a few months ago at a local bookfair, I think it might have been a Scholastic book though

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

The problem with it being a Scholastic is--they tend to re-issue books forever. So it could just be a re-issue of an older book. Or it could be brand new.

Did you try checking out Scholatic's web site? http://www.scholastic.com/home/ Perhaps you can find it there. Or get some kind of hint for what it might be.

message 12: by bookel (new)

bookel | 4028 comments Yeah I was thinking of the possible reissue after posting. Did you have any luck with the lists? It should be easy enough to find.

bookel | 4028 comments Is there just one character who's deaf?
Here's a fairly recent Scholastic book where two characters are deaf, set in two different times, and it's a graphic novel of sorts.

Wonderstruck is a historical-fiction book written and illustrated by Brian Selznick and published by Scholastic Press
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderst...
Plot doesn't match, the girl stays at home visited by a tutor, but just looking at recent books to eliminate...
