Hi everyone. I'm Laura and am the moderator of the group. Like many people, I am very busy since I work full time and have a family. Considering this, I think I still read a lot, but I don't really read too much variety and am looking forward to going outside of my comfort zone. Hence, the concept of this group...making time to read one or two short books per month and to expand my horizons. And if I find I don't like a particular category, at least the book will be "short" enough.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Hi everyone, My name is Nancy and I am looking forward to reading "sweet and short" books. I am also looking forward to getting to know all of you while discussing books, my favorite thing to do next to reading.

Craig | 17 comments Hi all. My name is Craig and I am Laura's husband. I don't have a lot of free time as I take care of our 4 year old son but I am looking forward to getting back to reading books. I write for The Jet Press on all things New York Jets and enjoy what I do.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Good to meet you Craig. Will you still talk to me if I tell you we are Giant fans and my son-in-law is a Patriot fan.

Stephenie Hoffman | 1 comments Hi everyone, My name is Stephenie and I'm Laura's mother-in-law. Laura and I both love to read and I am enjoying Laura's book reviews so much. She really makes the stories come alive. I think the book club is fun. I am currently reading Night Circus and love it! Laura recommended it and i'm so happy I tried it.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Nice to meet you Stephanie. Funny but our daughter's mother in law shares your name.

Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ Jenn Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ Schu (jennschureviews) Hello all, I'm Jennifer and I am a bibliophile. I've enjoyed all lengths of books, however with my upcoming change in life (going back to school) I won't have time for long books, so I look forward to the group. :)

Jessica Hello everyone! My name is Jessica. I from Nashville, TN. I love to read just about anything with a cover that strikes my fancy (I, sadly, read books and judge it by the cover lol). My favorite genre is sci-fi and i love classics. I work part time at Barnes & Noble where I can share my love for books with so many others.

I am do glad to be a part of this group, as I have become acquainted with some of you through others. I look forward to getting into new genres and expanding my horizons. I also can't wait to get to know all of you a little better while we have some fun!

Hopefully I will not get judged, either, with the upcoming football season. I am a Green Bay Packers fan. I bleed green, lol.

Julie Hello all,
I'm Julie and I love the idea of reading and discussing in manageable chunks! I like both the long and short books ... But I need to plan ahead for a window of time to invest in a big one!

I like to read a wide variety of books, but I tend to gravitate toward the classics. My least favorite is probably dystopian or science fiction...

Looking forward to reading together!

Thank you again!

message 15: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Newborn (BirdieQ) Hi, call me Birdie. These days I read neglected classics that I am republishing, so I get to know them pretty well. Just lately, I started an online litmag, TimeWell (www.timewellsp.net) for short classics mixed in with contemporary writing, art, poems, reviews. 2nd issue just out on "Young Days." Looking for readers who are also writers. Next theme is War Stories, after that I don't know yet. Surprise me.
I hope you subscribe, lots of shorts to munch on: Twain (for fun), Sappho, Shakespeare, & moderns.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) Welcome to everyone. Looks like this will be a lively group of readers.

message 17: by Pip (new)

Pip Hi everyone!

My name's Pippa. This looks like a great group - it was really good idea to set up a group for shorter reads!

I'm afraid Jets, Giants, Patriots and Packers are all a bit out of my sphere.... I don't even know which sport you're talking about ;-) Here in Spain, I support my local football team, Real Sociedad. Come on the Blue and Whites!!!

Looking forward to getting to know you all,

Pippa

Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ Jenn Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ Schu (jennschureviews) Hello Pippa! :) I'm not much of an American football fan either, love soccer! :)

message 19: by Pip (new)

Pip Oops - I meant soccer, of course! I can't believe how much it's taken off in the States since you held the World Cup.

Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ Jenn Ƹ̴Ӂ̴Ʒ Schu (jennschureviews) Pip wrote: "Oops - I meant soccer, of course! I can't believe how much it's taken off in the States since you held the World Cup."

Still not a huge following along with hockey, I think it is because they're lower scoring sports.

message 21: by Pip (new)

Pip Aaaaahhhh... THAT'S what it is. In that case, our cricket trumps your baseball :-)

Theo | 2 comments Hello everyone! I'm Theo (I know, it's not a very girly name). Originally from Romania, I have been living in England for the past 5 years. I have a Ba(Hons) in Creative writing from university of Bedfordshire and I now find myself recruiting in the pharmaceutical and clinical sector. Because it's so relevant, right?
I read a bit of everything, although classics must be my favourite! Massive fan of Dostoyevsky, Gustave Flaubert, Jane Austen, but a lot of contemporary stuff as well.
Loved Hunger Games, Game of Thrones, the Hannibal series.

Just bought a copy of '1,001 books to read before you die' and according to the spreadsheet I have 10 years of reading to do!

I also have a blog, although haven't written much in quite a while. Feel free to have a look. Any advice or criticism welcome :) theutza.blogspot.com .

Too long of an introduction? Sorry, I tend to ramble a bit :)
