Lynne Schultz | 22 comments i read a book back about 1998 or 99 and don't remember when it was published, but most likely in the mid 80's. thought it was Koontz, but looked under him and couldn't find it! i am desperate to find this book as i cant stop thinking about it. i borrowed it from an ex acquaintance and have not seen him since shortly after giving the book back.
the book was a work of sci fi. the main character was male, dont know how or why he got into astral projection, just that that was the focus of the book, being able to do projection and learning the protection and ins and outs of it. near the end of the book, he has to battle with someone else that is a bad guy during projection and the only way for either one of them to die was to cut the silver cord that tethered them to their own body. at the end of the fight, the good guy and the bad guy have completely wrapped their silver cords up during the battle and as a last ditch effort to try to kill the bad guy, the good guy starts to hack at one of the cords and hopes that it isn't his.

Lynne Schultz | 22 comments no, but that might be worth a read. i thought it was a Koontz novel, but i looked through them and it isn't him. but it falls into the same category of writing. the one im looking for is about astral projection. being able to leave your own body and your "soul" is tethered to your body by a silver cord that has to be in tact. it the cord is cut, you can not return to your body and you die. the main guy learns to do astral projection and the only scene besides the ending that i can remember it where he is sitting on the stairs of his house when he projects before he battles the guy at the end. but thanks.

A book away from an episode of hoarders (fidgit77) | 257 comments Reminds me kind of The Great And Secret Show by Clive Barker but I haven't read it since the 90's so I'm not sure how well it fits your description.

Daphne | 247 comments Darn it, I've read this book and I've seen other people refer to it. If it's the one I'm thinking of, the man gets involved in it because the bad guy killed his daughter. I'll do a search and see.

edited: I think Keeper of the Children by William H. Hallahan is the one I was thinking of.

Lynne Schultz | 22 comments I will have to check it out, because you are right on the fact that he got involved because of his daughter. I am only a few chapters into insomnia, and I don't think it is the right one.

Lynne Schultz | 22 comments Glad to be of some help! I read the book 17 (!!!!!!really!?!) years ago and found goodreads and was amazed with the results! And I got the book on amazon for around $5. So glad I found it and could read it again. It was so worth it.

YarlanZey | 3 comments I was a teenager, maybe 16. I am 39 now so that's too long ago to think about! Anyway, just got it for 1p on Amazon (plus £2.80 p&P) so will be able to read it again very soon!

YarlanZey | 3 comments If you like that sort of thing I would recommend the Psychomech books by Brian Lumley. I must have read those around the same sort of time as KOTC too. Just got them as ebooks from Amazon, but looking out for the paperbacks - you can't beat the feeling of a paperback!
