Lara | 2335 comments Believe In the Magic (Shifting Magic, #1) by Cait Miller

3 stars. Note: I got this free as one of the Elora's Cave free books of the week. I don't know it's normal pricing.

This is a shifter finding his mate story. Of course, she doesn't know that shifters exist. And he isn't really upfront with her about things. But, the attraction is there, along with some unexpected danger. It is a well-written book, quick and easy to read. But, it is also a bit shallow, hence the 3 stars. It kept my interest, but I wasn't sighing over any of the scenes. There were multiple sexy times, though.

Her Favorite Temptation by Sarah Mayberry by Sarah Mayberry

Rating:4 stars

Review:
This was my third Sarah Mayberry book and I loved it.There is another book in this series coming in September and it's already on my TBR.
Lovable characters , a good plot and enough drama and sexy moments to make it a good romance book.

P.S.At one point I was thinking that the character were talking like normal people and then I remembered that this was an Australian author , of course I'd think the dialogues are normal!

Verdict: Worth reading

Kari I agree the last one was the best, ShoSho. Hope you enjoy it too, Oleander. There is a second trilogy which I got as freebie but I haven't gotten to it yet. Reclaimed - A Highland Trilogy (Highland Historical, #4 To #6) (The MacKays, #4 To #6) by Kerrigan Byrne

Kari Blind Impulse by Kathryn Loch
Blind Impulse
Rating: 5★
Review: Medieval romance. The story grabs you from the start. Finally a romance where the H & h don't battle each other constantly over petty misunderstandings. Garin and Alyna are sweet and endearing as they tackle Garin's blindness and the effects it will have on their future. The villian, Peter, at times seemed like a caricature but the overall effect was carried out well. I liked the explanations of the church's view on blindness at the time, was very interesting. It was very well-written and I will definately read more by this author.
Verdict: Worth reading if you are in the mood for a good medieval romance. I loved the H and h. This one I got as a freebie on amazon in March.

Kari Lisa Kay wrote: "Ohh, that one looks good, Kari. I love a good medieval."

It was very good. The hero is blinded due to a wound and this was a huge deal in medieval times. I didn't realize all the implications with managing land and the church's restrictions. And it's very romantic, how they fight to save their relationship and he's wounded and tortured and so sweet... *sigh*

Reminds me of the Nina Bangs book where Ganymede and Sparkle, those demigods of sexual mischief, set up a romance between a shark shifter and a shark hunter, the "happy" couple not knowing about each other.

message 67: by Oleander (new)

Oleander | 188 comments Jenny, that was the Mackenzie vampire series by Nina Bangs. I think it was the third book A Taste of Darkness (Mackenzie Vampires, #3) by Nina Bangs . It wasn't the main couple or storyline, it was just an aside - something mischievous that Gannymede and Sparkle did.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments Stolen Fury (Stolen Trilogy, #1) by Elisabeth Naughton by Elisabeth Naughton

Rating:3.5 stars

Review:
First of all this was freebie I got a while back and for some reason I though it was a vampire story. I only found out it was romantic suspense after reading 20% of it!!
It was an Indiana Jones kind of story . A bunch of good guys and bad guys were after 3 ancient artefacts.
I thought it was a bit too long , not that it was boring ,it just could have been a bit shorter and I would have given it higher rating.I had a few other problems with it . The hero was a thief , glorified one but still a thief .This bothered me a bit .
There was a twist at the end of the book which didn't go well with the story and it left a lot unsaid(remember I said it was too long?) anyway just ignoring all these ,I did enjoy it . I guess you just shouldn't take it too seriously and analyse the details.
I'm interested in the other couples in this series ,I might read the next books sometimes in the future.

Verdict:Worth reading , just don't take it too seriously !

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) | 845 comments I really like all of Elisabeth Naughton's books. I recommend her other series as well. This is the first one in that series:
Marked (Eternal Guardians, #1) by Elisabeth Naughton

And I blame car trouble, broken appliances, running late for appointments, burnt dinner and anything else I can think of on Goodreads. So it is definitely responsible for hiding the most popular thread on RLthCI. Or maybe I just fit the the definition of "impaired".

Review:

Weird little book!
I have to confess, my only reason for reading this book was that I was curious about the cover. No you are not wrong , she's got fur on her butt something like a horse tail !The heroine is humanoid -a cat-human-! she's got some more fur here and there and she purrs !
It had a really interesting story but it could have been much better it felt a bit disjointed at times. For example they were in a huge life threatening situation and in the next paragraph there was a sex scene without having any answers for the situation and the next scene was the next morning ! It was a bit frustrating to read.

I think this was my first erotica book from a male author and the sex scene were OK.

Verdict:I don't know ,if you are in a mood for weirdness then go for it!

Gisela (chicadorlando) | 4022 comments The Measure of Katie Calloway
description

Inspirational Romance

Review:

This book caught my attention when it won the RITA for best Inspirational Romance in 2012, imagine my delight when I got it as a freebie!

From the blurb: The Civil War has ended, but in Katie Calloway's Georgia home conflict still rages. To protect herself and her young brother from her violent and unstable husband, she flees north, finding anonymity and sanctuary as the cook in a Northwoods lumber camp. The camp owner, Robert Foster, wonders if the lovely woman he's hired has the grit to survive the never-ending work and harsh conditions of a remote pine forest in winter. Katie wonders if she can keep her past a secret from a man she is slowly growing to love.

I really enjoyed this book, the story telling is great and the historical details are interesting and add depth without making the story boring. Unlike other inspirational romances the books is never preachy. You see normal people of faith trying to make a living and how their faith affects how they react to the challenges they face. This book is completely clean; your mother, grandmother or daughter could read it. If you're in the mood for a good Historical give this one a try.

Rating: 4.5 stars
Verdict: Worth Reading

Review:
Again! I started reading this because of its cover . I just liked it. I won't be cover ho because of this ,will I?

Anyway, back to the review. Ben is a diabetic who went on a sex ,alcohol and drug bender for two years and now he's suffering the consequences. He spends his days working from home and watching porn and he is on a home dialysis regimen. Ollie is the delivery boy for the porn he buys.
It had some good things and some not good things!
It was from first POV (Ben's),my least favorite. We never got to know Ollie very well.
Ollie had a kind of fetish , he was turned on when looking at the tubes coming out of Ben's stomach and his surgery scars. I'm not sure if this was what the author meant it to be or just that Ollie didn't mind his scar. It felt too creepy and kinky to me.
Overall it was a short fun read and I really liked it. I will read more from this author.

Verdict: Worth reading

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Never a Mistress, No Longer a Maid (Kellington, #1) by Maureen Driscoll Never a Mistress, No Longer a Maid, by Maureen Driscoll

Rating: 4 stars (I was tempted to give it 4½ stars, since I smiled and laughed much more than I thought I would.)

Review: I thought there would be nothing new here, but it was a really nice surprise to find a nice story-line - and fun, too - and few grammatical/spelling/editing errors.

At first I thought the H/h got together too soon, but (as my mother shocked me one day by saying), "There was a war going on!" [WWII, if you're wondering...]) Also, hooking up so soon is pivotal to the story, and it is in the prologue.

I liked both the hero and heroine, and I'm looking forward to reading about the rest of the family in this series.

Verdict: Definitely worth reading.
