This book was around in the 1980s, but I don't know when it was published. There was a young girl who was throwing, I think, a 16th birthday. This was historical. The problem was that the day of the party, no one came because her sister/cousin? something like that, never sent the invitations. I think the girl killed herself - I seem to remember a well, or something desperate, and she haunted the summer house, which I always pictured as a gazebo, but could have been more substantively. Does anyone remember this book?

Does the reader know at the beginning why the girl killed herself? Or, do they come to find out as the book goes along?Is the book more focused on the girl haunting the house? You stated it is a historical, but is she haunting the house in modern time?
Or, is the story focused on the girl and her party?
