message 1: by A.C. (new)

A.C. James (acjames) | 33 comments There are two previous edition/covers. Apparently, the photographer contacted me to inform me that exclusive rights to one of the images used to create this cover she sold recently for commercial use. Thus she asked me to take down the cover. So I re-designed it and did that, removing the image in question.

It shows the new image on Amazon but GR still reflects the old image. Is there any way to completely get rid of the previous images/editions and use only the new? Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I don't have any legal paperwork. Deviantart photographer lists to use with credit given but told me she sold the photograph exclusively later. I designed the cover myself using the rest from stock and Dreamstime.

Do you want the cover with the woman or without?

We do not remove covers on books that have been published. Users want the cover they bought on their shelves.

The only people who can remove covers on published books are GR Staff which is why you need to contact them.

The image with the female model needs to be removed.

She's asking to have the cover changed. No big deal.

No images will be removed unless by GR Staff - it is removed librarians will readd and anyone removing inappropriately risks their librarian status

I'm not sure what you mean by no big deal. As librarians, we should not be removing covers for any reason because it goes against policy to do so.

There is a precedent in that authors with legal issues regarding their covers are to contact GR support to have them removed. Even Rivka has sent people to GR support for such things.

It does not matter which cover is showing on amazon - the only people who should be removing covers on published books are GR Staff.

A.C. James (acjames) | 33 comments Thanks for the explanation :) I will contact GR Support just as soon as I locate the link. Strange that one of you said the other image still shows on Amazon. On my end it's been updated to the new one without the female model.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6358 comments @Jim, not a question of being supportive or not. Just a question of all librarians being required to have memorized the policies in the manual so everyone can keep database consistent. Oddities, exceptions, legal issues, anything against policies -- need staff to step in.

Plus, if you vandalize a book's data record against policy to suit an individual request (even from an author) -- how is that supporting potentially millions of other goodreads members who shelved original edition/cover? (Admittedly "millions" applies to very few books).

Librarians who wish to keep that status will follow established policy.

For legal reasons, any requests for takedown of covers for legal reasons must go through Customer Care, which can always be accessed via the Contact Us link on the Help page.
