SOLVED. Character becomes homeless, spreads wisdom; spoiler revealed at end of book [s]

this book is small and beige and blue (and about 4" x 6" - I think). I read it in the late 80's or early 90's but don't know how old it is. Don't know the author or title but it is about a character who maybe gets divorced ? and becomes homeless and meets all kinds of people and spreads wisdom around to everyone he meets. Then at the end he is found in a parking garage SPOILER (SORRY HTML IS NOT WORKING) and he is strung up on the gate to resemble Jesus? or that is supposed to be the interpretation I guess.

Wow... so sorry Tab, I did not realize anyone had replied. Thank you so much for replying. No, this is not the book, but this book Blue sounds very similar. I read the book in the '80's - recommended to me by an Irish gentleman (so guessing it might be Irish??).
