When I first heard about Stephanie Meyer's book The Host, I wasn't sure that it was the book for me. But I put it on my TBR list. When the movie came out, I decided not to read it and wait until I watched the movie. After several let downs from books/movies in the past, I was a little afraid to read it first. Anyway, I watched the movie and LOVED it. Should I read the book now or leave my fan joys to just the movie?

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I LOVED the book. Its great - and usually the books are always better.
Yes the book is 100X better than the movie! The first few chapters are world building and boring, but stick with it! The book gets really good :)
Exactly! I tried reading it shortly after it came out and for whatever reason I could not get past the first 50 pages. I went back a few months ago and tried again and loved loved loved it. The beginning isnt even that difficult to get through - but if you find yourself struggling a little, dont give up. The book is really good! :)
Yeah I seriously just skipped over until when Wanderer is picking out water at the store before she goes looking for Uncle Jeb's hideout.
Yes yes yes! The book is much better than the movie and you liked the movie you will love the book. The book goes into more detail(obviously) and you get to know the characters a lot better. It take a little while for the book to bet going and drags on just a tiny bit in the middle but it is such a great book.
Hey they are way more lovers than haters of the book. It was wonderful and you wont help but love the characters especially Wanda. I'm actually surprised the movie was as good as it was though. I can't wait to see if they make another one! I'm going to buy it soon and i definitely recommend it
You should totally read the book! It is ten times better than the movie in my opinion which was lacking the romance, action, and meaning the book had! I also thing you'd better understand the Host if you read the book.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I hear it did the book justice. I was a little leery to read another Stephanie Meyer book, but despite the unbelievability of the twilight series, The Host really captured my imagination and the world felt so real. I read it years ago and it's still one of my favorite books to this day! (Be warned however that the beginning moves slow, but keep reading because once the story picks up its absolutely fantastic!!) I would really really recommend reading it!!
The book was much better than the movie for me so if you loved the movie then you'll love the book.
Yes!! The book was so much better than the film. There was no way they were ever going to be able to put a 600 page book into a less than 2 hour movie and do it justice. There was no depth, no emotion, no relationships, no desperation, no...nothing in the movie. You got the general idea, but the book is so much more captivating and totally un-put-downable.
Yes. You should definitely read the book. The book is amazing so much better than the twilight series. Is the film any good? I have been afraid to watch it in case it ruins the book for me.
I really agree with Emily above me. I always read the book first and before i watch the movie, I always ask others if the movie is any good, because otherwise, it's going to ruin all.
The book is great, I couldn't put it down, its a must read! I was very disappointed in the move, they left so much out, but that's usually how it goes.
Thanks everyone for the input. Most of the time when a movie is made from a book, the book is better. Same doesn't seem to hold true for books and television series.
The book is SO MUCH MORE than the movie... Even if you only liked the movie a bit, I would definately recommend you reading the book...!
Read it! It goes so much more into depth and you get to know the characters better. It is slower paced, so you get more of the backstories. The first 100 pages or so are REALLY slow, but keep going and it gets WAY better.
Yeah read the book. I liked the movie better cuz it used less brain power but the book's better. Way better than Twilight
I loved the book. I thought the whole concept was imaginative and original. The movie was so-so, but it would be really difficult to capture all of the inner conversation and conflict that took place in the book. I would skip the movie and read the book.
The book was great... the movie missed so many nuances that were covered in the book... I strongly recommend reading!
I have not seen the movie, but highly recommend the book. It really makes you think about what makes us human.
the book is better just because there are so much more information. in the film is lacking in my opinion a lot and the characters are not that great than in the book presented
Yes, read the book. It's a bit slower, but I think it shows how the relationships developed more organically than the movie does. The only bad thing is that you'll have the actors from the movie in your head as you read it... The casting kind of killed the movie for me.
I haven't seen the movie, but the book is one of the best books I have ever read. Couldn't put it down, so yes definitely read the book!
This was the worst movie made from a book. The book was good, the movie missed half the book plus some. Characters in the movie were totally different than the book, appearances, some of the personalities did not match the book's character. I was very disappointed in the movie BUT I was also disappointed in the Twilight Movie as well.
I might be biased because i read the book first, but I thought it was so much better than the movie. Definitely read the book, I couldnt put it down, I read it really fast as a result.
