Thanks Dustin. Denisa, I was kidding about midnight! I'll be lucky to get through the second part before the night is up.

Well good, I'm so glad to hear that!:) Thank you for the offer, but I'm afraid that I don't remember it well enough to participate in the discussion..
Let the suspense continue. I don't know what the motive is or if there is one, I am pretty sure Perry is cuckoo. My favorite parts of this section were probably the letters to Perry from his sister and the translation and how Capote shows hysteria looming over the small town following the murder.

You know I have found it was rather a senseless killing, especially the whole family. It seemed a bit far fetched that they found his family because of another inmate. It seemed a bit far fetched that, Perry would let this weasel of a guy con him or talk him into killing that many people. It seems the reason should have been more so. This is based on a true happening which really makes me think its a bit strange.Sooooooo what are our thoughts?
One of the best true-crime books I have read. Capote was a master; his was the first in this sort of telling. Nowadays it is common place to pick up a book such as this but when it was penned it was the first of its kind; an insight into how something so horrific could happen and the background on the perpetrators thoughts.I thought it was a very chilling read.

Capote was a master, indeed.:) And I love how he worked around the horrific true life events and somehow, made it all his own.

It seemed a bit far fetched t..."Oh yes, the killings were definitely senseless, Denisa. Yet, based on facts. Like you said, very chilling.

Saw a HBO documentary awhile back "Cheshire murders" which has similarities to "In Cold Blood" vicious murders for no real purpose. In cold blood is a great read. Very entertaining and has the suspense of a fiction novel but it's hard to separate the book from the larger than life personality of it's author.

I agree... I keep going back to the fact that it was a real case and not fiction. I get a bit nervous knowing they traveled through Muskogee OK and other parts of OK.. which is where I live.
I have heard about the Cheshire murders I think... Will research it, it seems famliar
It's a great book, and a fascinating story. Gulp. I live in Kansas. But I can't say I "enjoyed" it! Gives me the creeps! :-)

I thought you guys might be interested in the following:http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-5...
After all these years, it's odd that you're reading the book and the killers are in the news.

Pam.. thank you so much.... It is rather odd that we are reading this and... they are in the news again... hmmmm so nobody can prove or disprove the Florida killings.... hmmm
Thank you so much!

Very interesting.. and how ironic, eh?:)
Thanks for the article, Pam. I'm surprised they have an open murder case from 59 and that there was enough reason to exhume bodies. Maybe there is more information available, I haven't gotten to the reference in the book yet but it seems odd for someone in 07 to pursue this case.
I love Cold Cases and how fresh eyes can see things that original eyes couldn't because of being so entrenched for so long at the original time.
I like cold cases too but this Florida situation doesn't look like an example of something being missed.
Cathie wrote: "I love Cold Cases and how fresh eyes can see things that original eyes couldn't because of being so entrenched for so long at the original time."I am also fascinated by cold cases..:)
Cathie wrote: "I love Cold Cases and how fresh eyes can see things that original eyes couldn't because of being so entrenched for so long at the original time."I do too Cathy... I like watching them on T.V. too
Doug wrote: "I like cold cases too but this Florida situation doesn't look like an example of something being missed."I think they were unable to prove they did the Florida killings... so they are now
Okay Doug where are you at in your reading? I have got to the part where they have been captured and Perry is in a cell by himself.. You know on one page I feel bad for him and then when he states he wished his sister had been in the Cutter home so he could have done her in too... I don't feel sorry for him... This is a very exceptional book and I am full speed ahead. I should get done in the next day or so... now that finals are over...
I don't think I'm that far along. I'll read some today and post later on with my status. I don't feel any sympathy for either killer, so far. They both are coming off a bit like spoiled brats who just want to harm those who had more breaks in life than they did. But I'm a bit biased after watching the movie "infamous" about Capote covering the case. Bad idea! Great movie but shouldn't be watched before reading the book.
Congrats on getting through your finals :)
Doug I have yet to see the movie but it is on my list to watch afterwards... There are just times throughout the whole book; with Perry... its almost like his logic maturity does not match his age and almost like he doesn't understand what he is doing is not acceptable... but then he comes off in a mean spiteful way and well... he deserves what he gets...Yes Finals are over (thank you).... next term doesn't start until Dept the first week... not too far off but gives me a rest... lol One more Math class and I won't ever have to do Math in class ever, ever, ever, ever again....
Okay I am finished! That was a awesome book!!!! I did post my review... I would put the kink but I am not sure how to do that... Doug... are you finished yet? I think my favorite character in the whole story was the jailer's wife... she felt he same feelings I did... I felt sorry for Perry and yet I knew he deserved what came...
Great read. I spent most the time curious about the circumstances of the murders and finished the book questioning if the State had any justification for taking the lives of the convicted killers. The most appropriately named book I've read!
Doug wrote: "Great read. I thank you so much for being my book buddy this time...

Give it away!
