Journey to the Center of the Earth - I've just started and I'm finding the narration by the nephew to be extremely amusing.
I'm still here.. :) I started reading Candide today. I'm finishing up 1984 and finished Genji a few days ago (the first part of 6 though, published as a Dover Thrift book).
Kirin wrote: "Reading my first Roth: The Plot Against America. I noticed there are a number of his books on the original list but I really only want to read this one and Portnoy's Complaint."I really liked Plot, but I hear it's completely different from most of his books.
George wrote: "Starting The Sea, the Sea. This one I double-checked is on the list, and still on the 2012 edition. This is my first Iris Murdoch novel. I recently read Orlando by V Woolf..."I liked Iris Murdoch's The Black Prince. Shall have to read one of her other books one of these days
I just started the Master and Marguerite and the first few pages into it, I'm hooked and finding it delightful.
I just started the audio book version of Cry, the Beloved Country, narrated by Michael York. Very good.
Started The Remains of the Day this afternoon. I loved An Artist of the Floating World, so looking forward to this.
Onto chapter 10 of The War of the Worlds, only started it a couple of days ago but it's such quick and easy reading with small chapters. Only 180 pages long so I expect I'll finish it soon, it's my first sci fi novel

About midway through (only 89 pages long so a quick read) The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy. Am enjoying it thus far.
I just read Call of the Wild by Jack London and will be starting American Psycho on Saturday (NBRC is doing it as a Book of the Month)
I just started Cocaine Nights by J.G. Ballard. I still have Glamorama on the back burner that I read a chapter here or there because I can't get into it but I refuse to walk away from it!

Been reading it in and out over the last 6 months!!! Only 120 pages to go :-)

Started American Psycho on Saturday. Have The Devil and Miss Prym and Brideshead Revisited in the to read pile. I have knocked out a few of the shorter ones so far this year, makes me feel like I am making some progress finally.
Anna wrote: "I startedThe MartianFinally I stared this book! I'd like to read it for a long time"
That's not on the list... is it?

Nope.
The Man With the Golden Arm It's taken me about 60-75pp. to warm to this, and the evocative prose reads best taking it slowly. BTW the back matter in the critical edition has massive spoilers (when will I learn?)
Started The Yellow Wallpaper and Other Stories. I need something super short after finally finishing A Suitable Boy!!
I just started Eugene Onegin by Pushkin. The book is written in verse which I did not think I would like since I'm not a poetry fan. Surprisingly, I'm really enjoying it!
