I agree Robyn...I have the three books sitting on the shelf for quite a while - this year I decided to tackle the larger books on the bookshelf, but that said it is looking like a great read.
Mandy wrote: "Going to try and crack my aversion to Jane Austen - startedPride and Prejudice...at least it was free on kindle...."How's it going? I once had an aversion to all things Austen but now I really enjoy her.
Linda wrote: "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. My first Murakami read." That book is great. Hope you enjoy.
Just started One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It's not easy to get acquainted with the style and the protagonist.

OK...reading in conjunction with lord of the rings....
I just started A Maggot by John Fowles. I really liked the psychological The Collector last year, and wasn't sure what to make of The French Lieutenant's Woman when I read it as a teenager. All his books are completely different!
Mandy wrote: "Started the Lord of the Rings trilogy...cannot understand why I put it off so long !"It's so good! Have you read The Hobbit as well? I picked up his other books as well that are not on the list and need to read them!

Karina - I did indeed read the hobbitt - but I think I like this better!
Saramago's 'Blindness' is not a 1001 book, Becky. There is indeed a 'Blindness' on the list, as well as books by Saramago, but no combination of the two.
Just started Casino Royale for the monthly club choice and next up and loaded on the Kindle is To the Lighthouse.
I had to take a break from Herzog--not really my cup of tea.Started Updike's Rabbit Run this morning.

Started reading the free ebook version of Aesop's Fables Aesop's Fables A New Translation by V. S. Vernon Jones Illustrated a few days ago. Reading 5-10 fables a day. Some I recognise after reading the first few lines, others are new to me. Some of them now has become ”universal truth”, and reading them here is like “ah,.. so this is where that saying comes from”. Highly recommended.
The Life and Opinions of Tom Cat Murr, ummm!!! not sure, a little strange and tends to flick between the two stories.
I just started Slaughterhouse 5 by Vonnegut. I like Vonnegut and I've heard that this is a good book so I hope I'll like it :)
Aubrey wrote: "Starting There but for the by Ali Smith."I just got that one in the post yesterday!....hope it is a good one.
Doctor Zhivago-getting ready to start this one as well as this one... Adam Bede. I THINK this one's a 1001 book too, but my mind is fried & I can't remember, LOL

I'm about halfway through, and it's phenomenal thus far.
Jacob's Room by Virginia Woolf. I've tried to read Mrs. Dalloway once but didn't finish it. I hope to finish this one.
Starting Pavel's Letters. Appears to be very non-mainstream for a 1001-book: Currently 32 ratings and 2 reviews here on GR.
Falling Man by Don DeLillo (audiobook) - I was apprehensive at first because I had tried to listen to a DeLillo novel years ago and I could not get interested in it. This is a much different experience!
