I'm about to start 'The Elementary Particles' by Michel Houellebecq. I've read what my friends have had to say about it and I don't think I'm going to like it very much, but I'll give it a try.
Enduring Love by Ian McEwanHave read several of this authors books and have failed to enjoy them but am still willing to give him another go.
Started Amadis of Gaul, a 500 year old novel with lots of knights breaking lances, sword fighting, and chivalry. I like it!

E.L. is my favorite one of his so far. Granted I haven't read that many, but this one kept me on the edge of my seat.
CandideSo far I'm finding it very over the top, but it doesn't put me off as I was expecting it to be outrageous. I'm enjoying it so far. should be able to finish it when i get home later this evening.
I've just started Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. I'm looking forward to reading this book as it's also on the Guardian Top 100 books of all time and Achebe won the International Booker Prize. This will be my first book by Achebe.
Pride and prejudice after putting it off for years and years thinking I would hate it. I've never been so wrong. It's so witty. So charming. So fun. Never judge a book by a Kiera knightley movie.

I hope you enjoy it! Such a great book.
I'm going to start Casino Royale by Ian Fleming, as it's looking more and more like this will be our March read! I was able to download it from the Lender's Library on Amazon for free, so that was a exciting!
I've started Lady Chatterley's Lover on audiobook. It's a public domain audio book: https://archive.org/details/LadyChatt...
Andrea wrote: "I'm starting the Art of Fielding. Interested to see if I like it since it seems the consensus is if you're not a baseball fan it's boring and I know nothing about baseball."Well I am a baseball fan but my, at that time girlfriend, hates baseball and loved the book. Its very good.
Lauren wrote: "Laura wrote: "I've just started Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. I'm looking forward to reading this book as it's also on the Guardian Top 100 books of all time and Achebe won the International ..."Thanks Lauren I hope I enjoy it as much as you have :)
As for Casino Royale it's a really good book! I love Bond films and all of Fleming's bond books but Casino Royale has to be the best- it's so cool :)

Thanks for the tip Mekki. I do a majority of my "reading" via audiobook, so I love finding new sources to feed my addiction. :)

I hope you'll like him this time. Ian McEwan is absolutely my favorite contemporary author, but unfortunately I think he's got a voice and a style that are unmistakably his, which you can feel in every one of his novels, and I usually find that people either love him or hate him altogether. Just out of curiosity, which of his books have you already read?
I've just started Tess of the d'Urbervilles. I'd always put off reading this one because unfortunately one of my friends had seen the BBC miniseries and spoiled me the end, but I hope it won't matter and that I'll enjoy it all the same.

Tess is on my list to get to this year. Can't wait to see how you like it. I haven't seen the miniseries so that's good. :-)
Started Infinite Jest today. It's going to take some time. Hope it gets more interesting and things connect.
Since I'm on a roll with books that have an infectious disease in the title (see above re: Love in the Time of Cholera) I just started The Plague by Albert Camus.
Christina wrote: "I just started Sputnik Sweetheart.so far I'm enjoying it."I started Sputnik Sweetheart a couple of days ago, too!
Well I started and stopped Catcher in the Rye the kid seemed very annoying and I could not get myself to read it past the first couple of chapters.
Melissa, I've read it a couple of years ago and I hated it. I couldn't see why everybody loved it so much, so it left me the feeling that I wasn't understanding something. Now, I'm happy of not being the only one feeling that way.I've just started Love in the time of cholera. It was a bit slow at the begining, but I'm liking it so far.
CitR is one of the few books that I read for school and hated. I'm planning on rereading it, but there are other books to get through first. Half the compiled 1001 list seems a decent amount.
Luís wrote: "The NunStarting..I expect a great reading.."Ooh, I'm curious about this one. I enjoyed The Monk in all it's crazy gothic over-the-topness, and this one sounds like it has some similar things going for it.

That's a case,I think,of problems of conscience,resumedly..

Luís wrote: "The NunStarting..I expect a great reading.."Oooh it's been so long since I read that. My literature teacher in High School was a committed anti-clericalist and anti-catholic, so she made us read that book. I remember it to be a painful read, but the discussion that followed was extremely interesting. Of course the basic theme is thought provoking and it was very forward thinking for the times!

Peter wrote: "Just starting Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov a book which I've been meaning to read for quite a while."I read this book last year, and I really enjoyed it despite the subject matter. Nabokov has such a way with words.
Going to try and crack my aversion to Jane Austen - startedPride and Prejudice...at least it was free on kindle....
