Wander | 20 comments Towards the end of the book the humans infiltrate an alien settlement by masquerading as the monk like aliens that tends the energy plant of the city with religiously, many of the other aliens species are not remotely human. The humans plan to destroy the core but at the climax the protagonist (view spoiler) The book ends with (view spoiler)

Other random details:

The human rebels use some sort of tripwire to disable a patrol, maiming the living carrier. The aliens express horror that they targeted the living construct, which they regard with some amount of reverence like their living cities.

An alien outside the main civilization of alien races is trying to warn everyone of some outside threat that destroyed some other civilization, s/he is ignored and ends up helping the humans I think?

Wander | 20 comments I'm not sure if it was part of a series, but the ending implied a follow up

Empress (the_empress) | 224 comments The only thing I have read that is close enough is Imago, but there are some major differences.

Empress (the_empress) | 224 comments Jen did you manage to find the book?

message 6: by Wander (new)

Wander | 20 comments Imago looks interesting and I liked reading the Host, but it's not either one. It's told from both human and alien viewpoints if that helps?

I'm not sure what to search for, it's not a Dystopia or a Space Opera, it's not repelling an invasion the aliens are settled into Earth from what I remember...ugh

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Pretty sure it's not City of Gold and Lead (which is the last book in a trilogy) - single set of aliens, no alien carriers, and humans can't pass as the overlords.

Wander | 20 comments I'll check those suggestions out Miriam, but I don't think either of those are it

Jilly | 5 comments I doubt whether it is City of Illusions by Ursula LeGuin, but there are similarities, and it might be worthwhile checking out.
Cheers

Wander | 20 comments I'm guessing between 4-10 years ago? Think I read it during a summer between class. Don't think it's from before 2000 and it's not recent

Daphne | 247 comments The Mount sounds vaguely like it?

message 15: by Wander (new)

Wander | 20 comments The mount sounds interesting, but this book didn't have any humans as pets or otherwise integrated into alien society. The relationship seemed like natives fighting off more advanced colonizers (like indians vs settlers, but the aliens have a culture more like the indians)

Thanks for everyone's input.
