We haven't really been reading much as a group lately. This is where we organize when we do though.

Yeah, my reading has been far less planned out lately than normal.

If we've already read them and there are threads, feel free to dig them up again and add your comments! We don't mind old threads being revived here :-)

Artemis by Andy Weir
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon
Ink and Shadows by Rhys Ford
The Changeling by Victor LaValle
An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon
Seveneves by Neal Stephenson
Among Others by Jo Walton
These are just books I’ve picked up in audible sales throughout the year but I’m going to try to read more standalones next year so if anyone has any they want to read let me know.
I’m also doing a bookshelf challenge for another group and have made a list of the 70 books that I have access to either from owning them or the library/Hoopla. So if anyone is interested in any of those I’m be happy to have some company reading them. It’s a mix of SF and fantasy.

I've read all of those already except the Changling and Ink and Shadows, and I'm not really interested in either.
From your shelf I have/would be interested in:
Six Wakes
The Poppy War
The Stars My Destination
There may be others on your list I don't have but might be interested in. I'll try to read through the descriptions later.

Along those lines, here's my list of owned and unread books: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Although there are nearly 150 books on that shelf. Maybe there is something else folks are interested in from that list.

The Garden of Stones by Mark T. Barnes
The Pillars of Sand by Mark T. Barnes
The Obsidian Heart by Mark T. Barnes
The Killing Moon by N.K. Jemisin
I'd be up for reading either/both series sometime next year. I only have the first Jemisin book, but assuming I enjoy it I'd just buy the others as we go.

Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie
The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead
Dark Eden by Chris Beckett
The City & the City by China Miéville
This is the list of winners: https://www.clarkeaward.com/award-win...

I have not read the Jamisin and would probably be interested in that.
I'm planning on reading the whole Greatcoats series in 2019, and I saw the first on your shelf Rob. Traitor's Blade
I haven't read Six Wakes either and would like to.
I'm also planning on doing the Kings of the Wyld series next year - I think a few others in the group have read that one.

I've read Ancillary Justice (and the 2 sequels). I quite liked it.
I might be up for Dark Eden, depending on timing

I created that shelf for 2 reasons. First my sister decided to buy me some books for Christmas one year and used my Goodreads "to-read" shelf to find ideas. 2/3 books she bought me I already owned.
Second, I've bought so many books that even I couldn't keep track and I've bought a few myself that I already owned in another format.
So it's a bit of a sanity check on my well known book buying problem.
With regards to Traitor's Blade, I'd be up for that as well.
I read the first Kings of the Wyld book recently and was planning to start the second one later this week.

My schedule is wide open next year so whenever works for everyone else is fine by me.
In general my timing is second half of the month (first half I focus on S&L) is more open. Unless it's audio, then I change books roughly once per week.
I'm not sure Dark Eden appeals to me enough to buy it though, so I may try to library it if we decide to do that one.
I'm biased, but I'd rather work down my owned-and-unread pile if there is interest in some of those books :)

Its the type of book i think you will like or loath. I don't think there will be a middle ground on it (but that is just my opinion).

So I'm putting the question to you guys: what are you planning to read soon? If any of your books grab my attention, I'd love to do a buddy read or side read with you!
Go!

Can't jump in on The Vexed Generation unfortunately, because I've only listened to the first 2 so far, and am not up to speed to start no. 6 yet. Shame, I do enjoy Magic 2.0 !

I'm a little over 60% done and it's been pretty good.

In other news: this is from Bernard Cornwell's website:
"Question:
Hi I'm desperately waiting for another book in this great series (The Last Kingdom) are you writing one if so when will it be available?
Answer:
I think it will be called Sword of Kings. And it should be available in the UK on 3 October and in the US on 26 November of this year."
I'm totally pre-ordering that!

I've pre-ordered mine already.
I'm still waiting for the last book to not be so expensive. Maybe it will drop in price when this new one comes out. Otherwise, I should see if the library has it or something.

I'm a bit OCD about formats. I have 1-10 in ebook, so I'd want 11/12 in ebook as well.
If I borrow it from the library though, I don't really care what the format is.

I'm still around, have just been too busy to post :)
A Little Hatred was released overnight, I am starting it in audio on the way to work today, and have the Kindle version as well. Anyone else planning on reading it?
I have it in audio, but I probably won't listen for a few weeks.
Right now I'm finishing The Wheel of Osheim and afterwards I was thinking of taking a short fantasy break (I did all 3 books in that trilogy in a row) to do Treason.

Nice Rob! I am glad you picked up The Red Queen's War series. It is an interesting spin on Broken Empire and definitely more approachable. The parts where the two series intersect are great.
No worries, I'll probably still be listening/reading it by the time you get to it :D
I did Broken Empire last year, and my memory of events and characters are already pretty thin. I kept confusing Jorg and Jalen too. Especially because they keep calling him Jal or whatever the shorthand is
There is a part in one of the books (The Liar's Key maybe where: (view spoiler)

Despite my nagging, I get a feeling we're not up for Uhtred anymore...
I miss NABCC group reads, because in larger groups the discussions get out of hand way too quickly, and I refuse to read through 859 comments just to catch up on people's opinion of a section. Our group size is much better!
