Kat | 1178 comments I have some German ones lined up, but after that I'll be trying to catch up on Uhtred, so I won't join you guys for now. (As usual....)

Lol

message 1405: by Richard (new)

Richard Eyres (richardeyres) I finished the series recently (at least, all the books that have been published by Cornwell). Enjoyable and worth the read/listen.

I think I own all the books he's published so far..but I was waiting for the group to continue our read.

message 1407: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Heya Rob - I just noticed Scott Meyer has another book coming out this month on June 20th (Not in the Off to Be the Wizard Series) - Run Program. Anyone interested?

message 1408: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I'm potentially interested, but it may depend on if/when there is an audiobook version.

Speaking of which, do you know if the last Off to be the Wizard only released on audio? I couldnt find a kindle version.

message 1410: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I believe it's audio only for 6 months. I thought that was weird but I do enjoy the audio versions anyway.

That is odd - I do enjoy this series especially audio but I usually get books both in kindle and audio format so I can easily switch between listening on the commute and reading in bed :)

I couldn't find the reason why it was audio only for 6 months (I didn't look all that hard.) But I was really disappointed because I don't do audio and I was looking forward to that book. Oh well, not like there's not a shit ton of things to read lol.

message 1413: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Is anyone else going to read the new Anthony Ryan book coming out tomorrow? The Legion of Flame (The Draconis Memoria, #2) by Anthony Ryan

I think we read the first one as a group.

I'm listening to it right now. I got another review copy so I jumped right in as soon as I finished my last book. I'd be up for discussing it.

There is a new reader though. He's not bad, but I'm always annoyed when they change it.

message 1415: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Oh darn it - I hate when they change too.

message 1416: by Kat (new)

Kat | 1178 comments I'm finally caught up with Uhtred, so whenever we want to start the next one - I'm ready. Just saying.

message 1417: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 629 comments I'm ready

message 1418: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I haven't been reading anything lately, so I could probably do it whenever.

message 1419: by Kat (new)

Kat | 1178 comments That's 3. Anyone else? I know we have more Uhtred readers.

message 1420: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I'm happy to do it whenever!

message 1421: by Kat (new)

Kat | 1178 comments Shall I make threads already?

message 1422: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Sure. I can add it to the group shelf.

So we've hit an unusual point of having zero upcoming reads. Normally we have a few release day reads scheduled out in advance and we fill in with older more spur of the moment stuff as we go.

What new releases are still on people's radar for this year?

I suspect at least a few of us will do Oathbringer (11/14/17). What else?

Some others on my radar:

The Stone Sky - 8/15/17
The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter - 12/1/17
Persepolis Rising - 12/5/17
The Infernal Battalion - 1/9/18

There is a huge gap after next month's Stone Sky until Sanderson in November. I can't imagine there is nothing coming out in September/October I'm interested in.

message 1424: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments A couple that I'm interested in.

Deadhouse Landing by Ian C. Esslemont - 8/10
The Core by Peter V. Brett - 10/3
The Fall of Dragons by Miles Cameron - 10/19 - depends on me getting books 3 and 4 done.

To be honest I have soured on new releases and am much more interested in completed series.

message 1425: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I have all the ones you listed on my "read asap" list, except for Oathbringer.

I looked through the September/October goodreads lists and didn't see anything. Weird.

message 1426: by Christina (new)

Christina Pilkington | 126 comments I've been MIA for awhile, but I'm back now! If you schedule reads for The Stone Sky, The Disappearance of Winter's Daughter, Oathbringer, and The Core, I'd love to join in.

Some other September/October reads I am interested in are:

An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard

Provenance by Ann Leckie

message 1427: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
WB Christina. I might be in for Provenance.

message 1428: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I might be in for Provenance too. I didn't realize she had another book coming out - cool!

Bill | 1596 comments Anyone interested in doing the Coldfire trilogy by C.S. Friedman starts with Black Sun Rising?

message 1431: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Bill I've read that trilogy a couple of times. id at least discuss. it's a good one.

message 1432: by Sumant (new)

Sumant | 522 comments Definitely interested in coldfire trilogy.

message 1433: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I'm a maybe depending on when we do it. Right now I'm behind on a bunch of stuff in audio due to Wheel of Time and I'm not really reading anything in text. I've tried a few times, but I just keep falling asleep or blowing it off.

message 1434: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I can start them next week or 3 months from now doesn't make a difference to me. Just want to be able to discuss them. I have a huge queue for audiobooks but will slip them in whenever they fit everyone else's schedule.

message 1435: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 629 comments I've had Black Sun Rising on my bookshelf forever so I would be interested.

Can we start it from 1st Sept ?

message 1437: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I probably won't be able to do it that soon, but maybe I can catch up.

message 1438: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Rob, when would you be able to do it?

1st of September works for me but don't want to leave Rob behind if there is only a few of us doing it.

message 1439: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I don't know exactly. Sometime in September should work. It may depend on the sword and laser pick though. I have at least two books to listen to after my current one. Maybe 3.

If you don't want to wait that long, no worries.

message 1440: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I leave it up to Sumant and Ctgt to decide. I can start it whenever.

message 1441: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 629 comments I'm flexible. I rarely plan too far ahead so I can generally fit books into my schedule. We'll see what Sumant has to say.

message 1442: by Sumant (new)

Sumant | 522 comments 1st September I am good.

message 1443: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Ok so let's go with that then. Rob can you put it on the schedule?

message 1444: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Sure.

message 1445: by Bill (last edited Aug 20, 2017 07:25PM) (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Thanks. Hope you can squeeze it in. Can you also make a folder? I'll make a general discussion post and see if we can draw anyone else in.

message 1446: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
It should have made a folder already when I added it. It just won't show up until you make a post. You should be able to pick it from the drop-down when you create a new thread.

message 1447: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Cool thanks.

message 1448: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments My library got a copy of The Book of Swords another in the line of rogues and dangerous women books edited by Gardner R. Dozois. Anyone else plan on reading? It has a really great lineup of authors.

If people are interested I was thinking of making a thread for each short story. Thinking I might do 1 a day as my ebook reading has really slowed.

message 1449: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I was hoping to pick that up at some point. I just don't know when though. My library always seems slow on new releases.

I will probably only read a few stories. I learned my lesson from Dangerous Woman. I'd be up for discussing the ones I do read though.

message 1450: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Yeah I’m a bit leary after Dangerous Women too but think this one has more authors that I’ve read or want to read 11 than authors I haven’t heard of 5. I just finished the Martin story which was a Targaryen history like the others.
