Lindsay | 546 comments Sleeping Giants is good. It's another epistolary novel, and it suffers a little in comparison with Illuminae and Gemina, but it's still worth reading. I'm told the sequel is good too by someone who has read an ARC.

Red Sister is getting all sorts of good reviews.

message 1352: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Lindsay, your review is one of the things that made me think I might just pick it up (Sleeping Giants). I LOVED Illuminae and Gemina.

I'm not sure if Red Sister is grimdark or not. I liked the first Lawrence trilogy but didn't love it - too dark. Loved the second trilogy, which wasn't as dark, and made me glad I'd read the first. It also made me pretty determined to read Red Sister - I'm glad it is getting good initial reviews!

message 1353: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) It seems Red Sister is a separate world from his first two series. I'd be in for giving it a try.

Sleeping Giants is an easy, fun read.

Definitely looking forward to City of Miracles

I'll add City of Miracles to the schedule

Also, when were did we want to do Warriors of the Storm?

My reading time has been pretty awful this year. I'm too distracted by my other hobbies to make much time to read, but I should be able to fit that in April or May most likely. I'm fine waiting longer though.

message 1356: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I'd prefer May I think, just to give it a little more rest. Or end of April.

message 1357: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I'm in for City of Miracles

My review is here, I found it really good.

So was there enough interest in Red Sister for a group read?

I'm not sure I have time right now, but if you guys are going to read/discuss it, I may jump in later.

message 1360: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I'm definitely reading it (Red Sister) this month sometime, for what it's worth.

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I know Sky was as well. But he's on baby time. I'm not sure who else was going to do it.

message 1362: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Hmmm...well maybe we could have like a single thread or a "starting/finished" thread kind of mini discussion for it ?

message 1363: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I'm fine with whatever you guys want. I was just asking so I could do whatever needs doing (add to the shelf, etc)

I've preemptively renamed the Red Queen folder to be a Mark Lawrence folder now.

message 1365: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Nice!

message 1366: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) I'm also in for Red Sister whenever it works for others.

message 1367: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Sounds like you just need a discussion leader (thread creator) and a date. I can add that to shelf when you guys decide.

message 1368: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 629 comments I've got a hold at the library so who knows when that might come in.

message 1369: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I can do the discussion leading thing. I can start now or wait a bit - what do you guys think would be a good "start" date?

message 1370: by Ctgt (new)

Ctgt | 629 comments I can't pin down a time frame so I'll defer to whatever you guys decide.

message 1371: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Well the nice thing about the internet is you can join the discussion whenever you get the book!

message 1372: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments I am starting now but I dont have a lot of time to read.

I like the idea of a single discussion thread for the entire book...or maybe two - initial thoughts and end of book.

message 1373: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) I'm good to start now.

message 1374: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Ok cool - I'll just set up a non-spoiler initial thoughts thread and an end of book thread.

message 1375: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I set up threads. Rob, when you get a chance can you move up the Mark Lawrence topic so it isn't hiding in the basement?

Anyone else interested in the new Magic 2.0book Fight and Flight? It looks to be out May 9th

message 1379: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I'm interested in Flight and Fight - I've enjoyed that series.

message 1380: by Sky (new)

We've read newer books in both Mistborn and Stormlight, but not those two in particular. We'll be reading Oathbringer later this year I'm sure.

We have read The Lies of Locke Lamora though.

message 1385: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Who else will be reading City of Miracles? I have been planning on reading it - but I may be delayed because I won a copy in the goodreads giveaway (yay!) so I'll probably wait til I get my greedy hands on it. As long as it doesn't take too long =)

message 1386: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
My copy came today. I'll be starting this week. I've been a bit distracted. I forgot to make a thread..I'll do that now..

message 1387: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Thanks Rob. If my copy doesn't come soon, and maybe even if it does, I'll get the audio version. At least I will if the narrator is good - I need to check.

message 1388: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I'm going to wait to see if my library gets it. If it doesn't I will probably pick it up next week.

message 1389: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments So is Fight and Flight only available in audiobook format?

Apparently there is an exclusive 6 month window: https://www.facebook.com/authorscottm...

What's on everyone's radar for June? We currently don't have anything scheduled. Anything good coming out?

message 1394: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 546 comments I'm not sure that the first one had many fans in this group, but the sequel to Ninefox Gambit is out mid-June, called Raven Stratagem.

The first book is on this year's Hugo, Nebula, Locus and Clarke award short lists.

message 1395: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 546 comments There's also new Neal Stephenson (or at least co-authored by) - The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O..

That could be good too. I don't know anything about his coauthor though.

message 1398: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 546 comments Doesn't surprise me, apparently she normally writes historical fiction.

message 1399: by Ctgt (last edited May 28, 2017 06:46AM) (new)

Ctgt | 629 comments I'm in for Raven. If the Stpehenson book isn't a doorstop I may give that a try.

I have tentative plans for a Lord of The Rings reread in the next couple of months and I also want to read the Paul Kearney Monarchies of Gods series-Hawkwood and the Kings in the near future, if anyone is interested.

OK. I'll add Raven to the shelf
