The Not a Book Club Club discussion
Suggest a book for a group read

Rob, maybe just make (if its possible?) a discussion thread like for the Wheel of Time, etc. and then yeah - gah there are 16 books - would you have to shelve them in the group shelves? We could just start with the first five or so, then if they are still being read add to that. I wouldn't put specific dates, probably - unless you are more comfortable with that.
I was basically thinking of just making one topic per book that people could comment on as they were read. That is kind of a different format, but I think it might work for this type of series - worth a try (?) We could just start with the first five or so, then if they are still being read add to it. It is kind of an experimental approach - and maybe it'll be a total fail - but maybe not!

I MIGHT want to re-read. I feel like I remember them pretty well - so I'd comment for sure if the group reads it. I liked them, but I loved the Red Queen's War much more because Jalen in SO many ways, says just what I'm thinking.

There are no set rules on how to discuss books here, people just seem to have adapted my preferred method. We have done single thread for shorter books or impromptu reads though.
I found a way to add a folder without adding a book to the shelf.
My thought was to add all the books (I didn't know there were 16) to it's own subshelf, and set the date to 2016 at least. Maybe set the same month for books in batches. IE: like June 1-30 for the first say 3 books, and July 1-31 for the next 3.
I'm flexible though, however you want to do it. I'm a bit OCD about the book threads having the book as the subject though.
I suspect that's how Mark Lawrence found us. Then again Sky had mentioned talking to him about it too, so who knows? I just like that it shows up at the bottom of a book's page when you do that.

I added the first 3: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
I can add more and/or adjust dates accordingly depending on what you end up doing.

We will see how it goes and adjust - keep what works and discard what doesn't. I appreciate the setup!

I'd be down for a Broken Empire re-read - its among my all time favorites.

Nope. Sorry. You're come committed to the whole thing now.

I keep watching for Wheel to be available - it isn't yet, but I'm sure it will be by the time I wake up tomorrow. And that will give me reasons to clean house, etc. and listen to my book!

Scrolling through those reminded me how many fantastic books/series this group has read. And more to come! (Not sure that Elemental Assassin will be one of them - we'll see! I had issues with book 1 for sure, but we told my specific issue gets better.)
Oh, and given the thread I'm in - I know you (Rob) read the Robin Hobb books with another group. When that one comes out, we either need a thread here, or I'll need to track down that group because wow - that was one of my favorites last year.
I just discussed it in the Robin Hobb group, but we can discuss it here if people want. Some of them are way more into it than I am. So I tend to just discuss it right after I finish, then stop, and they just keep going. lol.

@Rob would you be able to set up a folder for that series? Or I could set up threads in the Malazan folder

Thursday good?

Probably not me. I doubt I'll even read WoW at this point. However if it doesn't come out until late 2017/early 2018 maybe I'll change my mind.

I think the show will give us logical ending for the series, although I haven't watched it and will not ever.

But I would probably just buy WoW and let it sit on my bookshelf until I feel like redoing everything - if WoW is the last one, that is.
I stopped watching the show halfway through season 3, because I got confused by the little changes they made in order to bring it all onto screen.

I bailed on ASOIAF after book 3. Don't think I'll go back to it

I like the idea of a reread if there is a final book. Maybe I'll read the whole series then. So see you all in 2023!

I'll shelve it till the very end, even if Sanderson has to do the deed in the end... [/sarcasm off]

And I'd be up for a read of any Mark Lawerence books. I've never read any before but would like to change that :)
Oh, and the Red Rising Trilogy was fantastic! Same with Watership Down. I just finished reading that aloud to my 10 year olds, and they loved it. I just finished The Rook, too, and found it to be such a fun read. I'll be continuing with the second book, Stiletto, as soon as it comes in from my library.
Haha. I'll have to find time to do Ketty Jay/Mark Lawrence then. :)
Right now I'm a bit behind on my reading though. Mr. Penumbra is on the schedule already though. Same with Thorn.
I think Lock In we already did as a group.

And I hope Mr. Penumbra is good on audio because I bought the book on Audible last year, so that's how I'll be reading it.

I just snagged Dancer from the library so I'll join in.

American postal service is the slowest EVER as soon as anything has to cross borders. It's not like a plane can't make it across the Atlantic in 8 hours or so. No, they put the parcels in little kayaks and row them across individually.

But, I'm also waiting for a release date, and will count backwards from there. Main point of re-reading would be to catch myself up on what's going on. I wouldn't want to re-read now, only to forget everything again by the time WoW comes out... "
Yes, exactly. Once we have a release date, we can talk more about it. :-)

Joust;
The Black Griffin
