The Not a Book Club Club discussion
Suggest a book for a group read
I'll be in for Thorn, but I'm not going to add it to the schedule until I see something more official. It used to say it was coming out last year.
I'd definitely like to read Thorn of Emberlain, I still haven't even started the series, though! If anyone would like to read through the series with me, that would be fun. I'd need to start in February, though, as I have a bunch of library books that need to be read in January first.
I won't reread, but I'd jump in. If nothing else, the group has discussion threads on the first three books already.

Thanks! I'll read though those comments as I go through the books and add my own :)
I didn't realize we had done all three! I'm definitely down for a reread. I really hope the July date is firm
Well, we did book 3 as a group. I think books 1 &2 might have just been me and 1-2 other people.
Is anyone interested in doing Wheel of Time? I got through book 5 but have kind of stalled as I can't really where the story left off. I would be more than happy to start the series again if it meant having other people to read it with. I don't have any timeframe in mind. Anyone interested?

I would be in for it. I haven't read any of the books yet and would like another long series to get invested in
Ok so guess the next thing is to figure out a timeframe. Did you all finish your Malazan read or is that ongoing?
Malazan stalled out around book 4 or 5 I think. I kept going since I wanted to finish the series. I'm good to start at any time. I'm finishing up the Magicians trilogy this week.
Would you want to do one book per month?
I'm still going, some people finished, but the group read fizzled out. I am on book 7, Reaper's Gale. Happy to keep going with anyone who wants, or jump into discussions of older books.
I'm thinking we should create a Spoilers thread for each book, or maybe an entire series spoiler thread cuz I'd like to see more of the group's thoughts on Malazan

A book a month works for me. I will probably reread the first 5 in audio then switch back to text for the ones I haven't already done. I am just getting over being sick so I have a couple books that I got delayed on to finish up but other than that I can start anytime. My reading schedule is pretty open so whenever works for you is good for me.
Scott wrote: "lol, I know right? We just need Sky to jump in there and start it off"
:P It will probably be about 2 weeks before I finish Repears Gale. But let me collect my thoughts on Bonehunters etc if I can still remember.
If I can borrow them from the library in audio, I might be up for a reread of WoT. I might skip a book or two in the middle though.
@Bill that sounds good. How about starting on the first of February? Then we can schedule each one at the start of the following month.
I put a hold on The Eye of the World. I may not do it exactly the same time as you guys or do the whole series, but maybe.
Nice. Thanks Rob. I have to check audio availability at my library also otherwise will start on kindle.
Anyone planning on reading the conclusion to Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne when it comes out March 15th? We read the first two in the group - I think I actually skipped out on the 2nd read, but if others are planning to read the final book anytime soonish, I'd read the 2nd one now. I know you guys are doing D&C soon too.https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
I'm planning on reading the third Chronicle around when it comes out. I've been slow on Calamity - I want to know what happens but then I hit another stupid metaphor, get annoyed and read something else - so Calamity is a chapter at a time :)
Maybe Sanderson should have published a metaphor-free copy for grouchy people like me.
Im planning on it too, but I may have to wait a long time for a review copy like last time.
Even if I buy it myself, it looks like it's coming out the same time as The Spider's War
I can add it to the calendar though.

Hah - that was one major reason why i stopped reading the series. Maybe somebody can write an ereader app that strips out metaphors, like the profanity stripping app :P
cool - i was planning to just read malazan straight through till i finish the series but I guess I will work in book 2 right now - i've already got in in kindle/audible, and book 3 is pre-ordered.
Sky there actually is an ereader profanity stripping app you can get - I believe it's called cleanreader or something similarly obvious. Not that I would ever endorse such a thing but I think it's hilarious that someone has actually gone and created it in the first place.

^- Not using cleanreader :)
So thoughts on Lords of the North? I was thinking either this month or next depending on everyone else's schedule.
Rob wrote: "So thoughts on Lords of the North? I was thinking either this month or next depending on everyone else's schedule."Next month would be better but I can do this month if it works for everyone else.
I'm in the middle of a book atm. I wasn't when I posted. I can probably read it when I'm done.
Anyone heard from Teanka?
Anyone heard from Teanka?
I need to finish The Black Lung Captain and read A Darker Shade of Magic at this point, but I know ctgt started already.
If you guys want to start soon, I'll just jump in late. I can read it as soon as those two are done. Maybe next week. Could be the week after.
Is anyone friends with Teanka? I still haven't heard from her either.

I'll join Ctgt and will start Lords of the North early. As you know I always take longer than you guys, so I'm hoping to be an course to join the discussions on time this time around.
So I went ahead and added Babylon's Ashes and The Guns of Empire to the shelf, since I assume we'll have enough interest to read those. Both look slated for August.
What about Age of Myth at the end of June? Anyone else planning to read that as well?
Normally by this time of the year we have a bunch of summer reads line up, and our calendar was looking kind of sparse. What other big releases are people planning to do this spring/summer?
