Bill | 1596 comments Rob or Alex, can you make the Dagger and Coin appear on the group page and I will make the discussions. Thanks.

message 602: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Thanks Alex. I created the discussion threads.

I think I've mentioned this before why Sky had the same issue, but the Create a Thread link (The top has 3 links: "all", "new", "unread", selecting new takes you to the above link) allows you to pick a folder, including those with no posts.

Until a folder has posts in it, it's not visible. And folders with older posts will eventually age off the front page (I think) or at least there are maximum number of groups.

Alternatively if you click the "new topic" link inside a group, which is what I assume you did Bill that will automatically select the current folder for you, but really it's the same page.

That's my GI-Joe moment for the day.

Also I moved the D&C group up to the top.

City of Blades might be out this year? I'm a bit confused on the dates..It sounds like Tor is saying it'll be out a few months AHEAD of the UK release and the UK release is 8/6/15? Or maybe they mean a few months after?

Either way I'm reading it when it comes out.

Bill | 1596 comments I'm in. Didn't realize it was a series or maybe just forgot. Suck it UK.

message 606: by Robyn (new)

Robyn | 150 comments Hey! We're people too, you know.

message 607: by Robyn (new)

Robyn | 150 comments Oh, and I'm in for that read. As I've got a valid US address & card, my Amazon account remains the same as before I moved to the UK so I should be able to get the book when it comes out in the US.

I hate how the English language version of things aren't out at the same time all the time. It seems silly in this day and age. Presumably different publishers though.

And I'm still not clear on the release date..

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Bill wrote: "I'm in. Didn't realize it was a series or maybe just forgot. Suck it UK."

Also in! I don't think it was planned as a series, and, from what I've read, it's more like two stand alone books. Don't think there will be much crossover aside from Mulaghesh (probably butchered that)

Robyn | 150 comments They often edit for language differences pretty extensively, not just to account for spelling differences but also common phrases and words. I've started to find American editions slightly 'wrong.'

Right, to get back to the topic at hand - I can't tell when it's out either. Thought there might be an issue with the way the release date was written (UK style being 6/8/15, which can be easy to misread when going quickly from an American perspective) but that isn't it at all. Have googled around a bit and looked at Bennett's website and can't see anything that explains the difference between Tor's UK date and the 2016 GR date.

message 611: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments I'm in too :)

message 612: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments I'd definitely read City of Blades as well.

message 613: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 546 comments Definitely in for that one.

message 614: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Robyn wrote: "Hey! We're people too, you know."

Fine I hope you get it at the same time. :)

Justine (justine_ao) Robyn wrote: "They often edit for language differences pretty extensively, not just to account for spelling differences but also common phrases and words. I've started to find American editions slightly 'wrong.'..."

Do they still actually change phrases for American editions? That is just plain idiotic. I thought they stopped doing that. Although, I'm Canadian, so what do I know? We usually end up with the British editions here anyway (at least most of what I have usually seems to indicate that).

message 616: by Robyn (new)

Robyn | 150 comments I've only noticed small changes in books from the last five years or so, but I usually figure I'm only noticing a fraction of it. Never noticed it in a 'literary' book - usually genre fiction. I mainly still read American editions, because of my Kindle account, and I'm pretty sure changes are also still made for American editions of British books, though my prime examples there are oldish (Harry Potter, Bridget Jones). It's perfectly possible that I am only noticing it in older books and not realising it, though!

message 617: by Justine (new)

Justine (justine_ao) Yes, Harry Potter is a good example...the Canadian editions were published by Raincoast Books and were not changed from the British editions, but I know Scholastic did alter the American editions. Even the new reprints that are coming out with the new illustrations are still being changed. I just don't get that. At all.

message 618: by Christina (new)

Christina Pilkington | 126 comments Count me in, too, for the City of Blades read. I pre-ordered my Kindle copy on Amazon which states it will be delivered to me on Jan 26, 2016, but I'm hoping it will be released sooner in physical form.

message 619: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Has anyone read The Grim Company? I really dug it and the second, Sword of the North, comes out in early May. I probably won't read it immediately but wanted to see if there was any interest in a group/buddy read

message 620: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I would be in for book 2. I really liked the first one also.

message 621: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Never heard of it. And since you didn't use a book link,I probably never will. Because I'm super lazy right now..

message 622: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Lol. Its "grimdark" I guess.

First book The Grim Company

Second book Sword of the North

message 623: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Nope. Too late..

message 624: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Haha. Sorry, was on my phone.

But it's definitely worth checking out. Actually might do a reread of Grim since I don't remember much from it

message 625: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Those have been on my radar a while but I think I am booked until mid june, after Liar's Key and Nemesis Games. If you happen to wait that long I'd be down for a buddy read.

message 626: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Yeah I'm in no rush to read it so I don't mind waiting if there's interest to do a group read of one or both the books. Figured I'd through it out there and see if anyone was also going to read it

That implies you use the shitty app to post to the forums. Eww.I use chrome on my phone and tablet.

message 628: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments So what you're saying is that I need to step up my GR game

You use Chrome browser and then go to GR or the chrome app?

message 629: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
I don't understand your question. What's the difference between the Chrome browser and the Chrome app? Unless you mean the web browser on a computer?

I get email notiifcations and they open up chrome instead of the goodreads app. Does that answer your question?

message 630: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Ah ok, I don't ever open the links from my email when I'm on my phone, I just open the GR app. It's hard for me to navigate the full site on my phone

I was wondering how you got to Chrome through your phone, if it was the default browser. Cuz I have safari and I don't much care for it

message 631: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Oh. See that's your first problem You use Apple. :-P

Android lets you make whatever you want the default browser. Though chrome is the default. But you can use firefox or opera or whatever.

The phone is less easy than the tablet, but not too bad and I have bookmarks. I generally don't browse the site on my phone though. Just check and sometimes respond to notification emails.

message 632: by Bill (last edited Apr 02, 2015 04:31PM) (new)

Bill | 1596 comments I be up to read both books I remember the main story but not the details. I am in no rush to read them so whenever works for me.

message 633: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Yep, good ole Apple. I typically only check GR on a computer when I'm at work. Don't like messing with the laptop at home.

Sweet, so maybe tentatively schedule it for middle of June? We can always push it back, seems a lot of good books are coming out the next couple months. I will check the calendar as well so we don't schedule a bunch of things all at the same time like this month

message 634: by Sky (last edited Apr 03, 2015 06:09AM) (new)

Sky | 1291 comments Sounds good to me, but yeah we should also factor in where we are with Malazan and Dagger + Coin in June :)

message 635: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) I think we're reading Apex, right? The last in the Nexus series. The release date was pushed back from May 5 to May 19.

OK. I updated the bookshelf.

message 637: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments I saw that too...Yay for more time to catch up on everything!

message 638: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments I need to get in Crux! It's been calling my name.

Was looking on the calendar for a good time to read the Grim Company and Sword of the North but it looks like the next few months are pretty solidly booked

message 639: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments yeah, i need to do crux too, i'll probably start the week before Apex is released. Right now I need to catch up with Tao after I finish Grace of Kings :)

message 640: by Christina (new)

Christina Pilkington | 126 comments So many awesome books to read and so little time :(

message 641: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments Thats disappointing. Maybe we can alter the series read to a book every two months so we still have them done before the last book comes out but haven't forgotten everything from the fourth.

Also would anyone be up for a walking dead compendium discussion without the scheduled read. I

message 642: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments D'oh! Every other month sounds good to me - also, bill, I would be up to discuss the compendium.

Nooooo!

message 644: by Teanka (new)

Teanka | 134 comments I'd also prefer to read Abraham every other month, I have a bit too much on my plate at the moment.

message 645: by Mark (new)

Mark | 482 comments Big help to me as well.

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Thanks for ruining my morning, Alex. ::shakes fists at the sky::

message 647: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay | 546 comments Is anyone in the group going to read The Three-Body Problem before the Hugo Awards and the publishing of book two? It's been on my to-read list for a while and I'd like to get it read sometime in the next month.

message 648: by Teanka (new)

Teanka | 134 comments I've read it already this month in another group. It's pretty interesting, a hard sci-fi novel set in China.

message 649: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6375 comments Mod
Maybe. I'm a little bit burned out at the moment. Maybe in late May though.

message 650: by Sky (new)

Sky | 1291 comments What rob said - 3rd week of may sounds good to me, The Liar's Key and Nemesis Games both launch june 2nd, so before that.
