Camilla (cyqua) Here's my book for PORK week:

Book: Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews by Ilona Andrews (Kate Daniels series)
My letter: K
Read between Aug 19th and 22nd

Review: I don't know why I ever took a pause reading this series! And I'm so happy there's another book now :-) I loved it, love the world and Kate with Curran :-)

WoW: "... might as well taunt a rabid wolf with a pork roast. "
Kindle location 338

Bonus: "Maybe you could practice by aiming at a barn."
Kindle location 2033

message 203: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments found quite a few for A also,....so I can do any letter this week :) except F...can't find any so far for that one :(

message 204: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments I'd not mind any of the 3 letres...L, A, or G..but please let me know because I'd like to start:)

Turtlecollector Dennis I think I am going to start reading The Almost Archer Sisters by Lisa Gabriele. This one book will work for L, A or G. Just let me know which letter it will be used for. If I really need to switch to F, let me know, but it looks like Brittany or Camilla have a book for F.

message 206: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments So...TC......looks like we can flip a coin!! I call heads! Lol

message 207: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Sorry ladies, last night was a bit crazy, so I just managed to post my book and then sleep :-)

OK, so Brittany if you have no preference, Catherine you preferred the L, right? Then Brittany just has to decide whether to read G, A or F :-) And I will take the last letter, I really don't mind which one.

message 208: by Catherine (last edited Aug 24, 2013 04:59AM) (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Well..the first book works for G or L..so either is fine :)
Looks like Turtlrcollector has A covered. I can do G..so F and L need picks

Well, if your book works for both G or L, I suppose Brittany can choose either F, G or L ;)

Happy reading ladies!

message 210: by Brittany Lynn (new)

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments I will take F.

message 211: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Well...Turtlecollector's book works for A, L, or G.....so technically Brittany and you could pick any lettre. I just figured I go by titles...but whatever

message 212: by Camilla (last edited Aug 24, 2013 07:20AM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Okay, I think we're set now:

F: Brittany
L: Catherine
A: Turtlecollector
G: Camilla

Let me know if there's something off :) Happy reading!

message 213: by Catherine (last edited Aug 30, 2013 11:26AM) (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Actually Camilla..I said I was doing G...but as you took it....I guess I have to take L... it's not that I mind so much as I did want to use title instead of author this time. But I finished tonight anyway. Put it however you want

Lettre: G

Book: The Girl on the Cliff..Lucinda Riley

WoW: Yes: flag..pg 108. "Mary was propelled down the Mall toward Buckingham Palace, in an ecstatic crowd, waving flags..."

Bonus: Yes: mask..pg 115. "...hoping her pretty curtsy and charm would mask the problem,..."

Review: well..I do love a good historical mystery. This one involves 2 families and becomes very intricate..adding small clues one at a time. Told by the youngest character...who periodically adds sidenotes from the present(in her old age). She is telling from memory what was passed to her, if only to clear her conscience in the telling.

message 214: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Hi Catherine, I'm sorry, but if you're reading the book you wanted, what does it matter if it's the author or the title? It makes no difference at all, so I really don't understand why it's an issue?

And actually, you wrote "the first book works for G or L..so either is fine" "I can do G" - so I'm sorry, but I'm a bit shocked that any kind of issue is being made out of this, but if you insist on doing G, I haven't started my book yet (it was just the one I preferred), I can read an L book.

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments Week 6: Camp/Pancake

My letter is F

Faking It (Losing It, #2) by Cora Carmack by Cora Carmack
read 8/28/13 - STARS

Word Of Week: FLAG
Location 817 - "I pushed through the crowd of people trying to flag down the bartenders and escaped through the front door."

Bonus: MASK
Location 2873 - "Wearing a mask was my defense mechanism, and I hated that I had pushed him to it."

REVIEW
FANTASTIC. It isn't as intense as Losing it but WOW, what a read!

Turtlecollector Dennis I am done with my book and will post my review later tonight.

message 217: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments How many more words are we doing? We're on week 7 tomorrow.

message 218: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Never mind...just went and checked...3 more words....why aren't we doing all 10?

Turtlecollector Dennis The tenth one is so we can't know for sure what the last word will be. Gives a bit more suspense to the game.

message 220: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Way to go, Brittany! Glad you enjoyed your book so much :-)
I've finished my book and will post it and for our points tomorrow morning, but it's late here, so I'll turn in:-)

Turtlecollector Dennis Week 6: Flag/Mask

My letter is A
The Almost Archer Sisters by Lisa Gabriele
read 8/27/13 - 2 stars

This is an OK book about two sisters with very different lives. As young children, they had found their mother after she committed suicide and they grow up to be almost exact opposites. They have a pretty close bond anyway until one walks in on her husband with her sister. Not the best writing and there is nothing especially dramatic about the reactions of the characters. It seemed pretty bland for what I would think of as a very volatile situation.

WOW: flag
pg 8 - "...passionate allegiance to the flag he hated..."

Bonus: mask
pg 166 - "Little Chinese boxes and souvenir masks..."

message 222: by Camilla (last edited Aug 30, 2013 02:47AM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Here's my book for FLAG week:

Book: Leviathan (Leviathan, #1) by Scott Westerfeld by Scott Westerfeld
My letter: L
Read between Aug 28 and 29th

Review: This was one of my first "real" steam-punk novels and I really quite liked it. It was different from what I had expected, but definitely worth a read if you like a bit of adventure and futuristic settings :)

WoW: "...stretched above the trees, the archducal flag snapping in the breeze."
Kindle location 460

Bonus: "It was strangely clarifying, wearing no mask."
Kindle location 772

message 223: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Great job this week ladies! I've just posted for all our points so far and we're still in the run for the top spot :)

As TC explained, one WoW will not be called - in the very first round there was only 9 WoWs and it meant that people could plan out the last two weeks, so Jenne decided to add another word to keep people guessing :)

message 224: by Camilla (last edited Aug 30, 2013 02:42AM) (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Also, I just went over our points posts to make sure they were fine :)

Catherine, could you please add your letter for the week to your posts from PORK and FLAG week? :)
For PORK it was R and for FLAG is was G
Thanks! :)

Turtlecollector Dennis It is a double word week.

Word: Baby
Bonus: Hotel/Motel

I have any of the letters but I would prefer one of the Bs if possible.

B: Big Sky Summer by Linda Lael Miller
A: Prague Winter: A Personal Story of Remembrance and War, 1937-1948 by Madeleine Albright
Y: The Day Is Dark: A Thriller by Yrsa Sigurdardottir

Camilla (cyqua) Catherine wrote: "just discovered on for A...so if Brittany or you have any problems I will be happy to switch..would like to stay with B though..if I can :)"

OK, great! If you don't mind waiting a bit longer, let's give Brittany another few hours to check in and then hopefully we can all start reading :-)

message 231: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments Do we get an extra bonus if both bonus words can be found?

message 232: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) How do you mean? Both the bonus and the WoW? Yes, they each give one point, so if you have both, you get the value of the letter and 2 points for the bonus words. That's why it's so important that we all get both points each week, because even if the team misses just one, it will be difficult to win :-)

On another note, I will send Brittany a message, do we can find out which letters she can do

message 233: by Catherine (new)

Catherine | 880 comments The bonus wow this week is hotel or motel....I mean if both appear

message 234: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Catherine wrote: "The bonus wow this week is hotel or motel....I mean if both appear"

Ah, ok, like that! :-) No, it just means that it can be either or, you don't get any extra points for finding both.

Turtlecollector Dennis That's fine with me. I am already done with my B book and am reading the book I had for Y right now. Those 2 I was planning to read anyway this week. I was going to start my A book today just in case, but now I might put it off for a few days.

Turtlecollector Dennis Week 7: Baby/Hotel-Motel

My letter is B

Big Sky Summer (Parable, Montana, #4) by Linda Lael Miller by Linda Lael Miller
read 9/1/13 - 4 stars

I like this series set in Montana. They are an easy read for me, which I need this month as I try to read 5 nonfiction books when I don't normally read much nonfiction. This book has two characters who have had a secret relationship for years. Now one of them(famous person) has returned to town permanently and the other one is tired of all the lies(which he has been reluctantly agreeing to) and wants everything out in the open. There are many trust issues and miscommunications to unravel, but they seem to always be getting themselves into the same situations as in the past. (view spoiler)

WOW: baby
pg 26 - "...the redheaded baby girl..."

Bonus: hotel
pg 42 - "...tour buses and hotels..."

message 246: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (cyqua) Awesome, Turtlecollector! :)

message 247: by Turtlecollector Dennis (last edited Sep 05, 2013 09:46AM) (new)

Turtlecollector Dennis I really hope pie isn't called tomorrow. I have lots of books with fan or lawyer, but only a couple with pie.

EDIT: Actually fan is the best bonus to be called tomorrow. I have a book that will fit any letter left except for D so far with that bonus. Lawyer is pretty close, too; I only need D or T with that bonus.
I am waiting to see if an initial in an authors name will work, then I will just be down to needing a T with lawyer.

Brittany Lynn | 449 comments Week 7: Baby/Hotel-Motel

My letter is A

All Bets Are On by Charlotte Phillips by Charlotte Phillips
read 9/4/13 - 5 STARS

Word Of Week: BABY
Location 1044 - "She looked just as Susie had when she was in her first decade - before her baby blonde hair took on its teenage light brown color."

Bonus: HOTEL/MOTEL
Location 1331 - "Innova had stumped up for the usual basic standard of hotel and the room didn't have much to offer in terms of relaxation."

REVIEW
I really liked this book. I seem to like all the Harlequin Kiss books I read. Charlotte Phillips is a wonderful author. I'd really recommend this book to my romance reader friends!
