R4: Team ~ Beach Babe Bookies ~ Miami

I will give Catherine a few more hours to check in and then send her a PM to make sure she has seen the new word :)

Although, I'm always up for recommnedations too :)

If you're finding it difficult to search on the Kindle, you can also go to Amazon, and find the book you want and then use the "Look Inside this book" feature (above each book) and there you can search the entire book for specific words as well :)
I can easily recommend something - what sort of genre do you like? :)

did you do T then?

I did T. That was the book I had taken with me to my conference. I am a fast reader and I could probably find a different letter if I need to.

Word of the Week:
Nest
Bonus:
Newspaper
N:
E: Camilla
S: Brittany
T: Turtlecollector

I have a suggestion...could everyone be willing to do 2 lettres....just so everyone has a choice...this is what we did in last round :) I am most likely going to be the last to get here...and I don't want to be stuck not being able to find a book.:)

I currently have a book for S that would work and I am sure I could easily find one for N. Just tell me in the next couple of days which letter I need to switch to so I can get a book and read it by Friday.

Really sorry I've been a bit absent this weekend - had a lot going on!
Catherine, as Turtlecollector says, both she and I have loads of books, so can usually find one for all letters, so if you're having problems, you can usually switch :) So, this week you can also have the E if you want :)
Brittany, sorry, I completely forgot about recommendations :( Let me have a look at my Kindle and see what I have that will work for the letters (S or N) and let you all know.
TC, as for whether we should be very secretive, I personally don't have a need to be - I don't think that is what will make a difference, but if any of you prefer to keep our choices secret, that's fine too :)

Storm Front by Jim Butchers - one of my FAVOURITE series! :)
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse)
The Shining by Stephen King
American Gods by Neil Gaiman
Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
Aftertime by Sophie Littlefield
L.A. Confidential by James Ellroy
Salem's Lot by Stephen King
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh
Season of the Serpent by David Nova (works for both S & N and costs 99 cents for Kindle)
Sushi for Beginners by Marian Keyes
Life... With No Breaks by Nick Spalding (works for both N & S)
Half of a Yellow Sun Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
11/22/63 by Stephen King (works for both E & S)
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey (works for both S & E)
I even have more if you can't find any of these, and I'll be happy to send it to you if you have Kindle :)
Let me know which letters/books you prefer, so we can all start reading :)

Since one is for S and the other is for E, could you let us know as soon as possible which you decide on? :)

OK, that leaves me with the N :) Happy reading all!

Brilliant! Thanks, Catherine :)

I haven't looked yet, but usually try to, work and life have just been SO busy lately that I haven't had a chance.. :) I guess pork would be a bit difficult - can't think of anything other than someone having pork chops...

My letter is T

read 7/20/13 - 2 stars
This was an OK book as the first in a series of mysteries that takes place in the Pennsylvania Dutch area. Although the main character who runs the inn is Mennonite, the rest of the main cast of characters come from the outside. The innkeeper keeps saying that the inn is run in the old-fashioned way and there are a few descriptions of farm life, but I felt that the cultural aspect was not brought out well. I would have liked to see a bit stronger difference between the English and the hometown people. Also, the mystery itself seemed too fast paced and clues a bit too obvious, but the acting police chief was way to obtuse to be believed.
WOW: nest
pg 202 - "...reached into their nest boxes..."(referring to chickens)
Bonus: newspaper
pg 37 - "A reporter? Are you sure? For which paper?"

I don't look for books early...but I have to agree..it is tough to find the selected words!

Remember your posts must be done by the time Jenner calls the next word in order for the team to get full points :-)
All you need to include is: your letter, a link to the book, name of the author, and either a small review or a link to your review :-)
I'm on holiday, so I will just take whichever letter is left :-)

My letter is E

read 7/25/13 - 4 STARS
Word Of Week: NEST
Location 949 - "Out of the far back of the ship was a crow's nest, raised up to be almost touching the underside of the last balloon. Turning about, she saw that at the front, near them, was another crow's nest."
Location 1939 - "Professor Braithwope did his fast scuttle out across the plank to the pilot's nest, presumably to call down to the boiler room."
Bonus: NEWSPAPER
Location 2102 - "He was dressed respectably, if a bit on the newspaper lad end of the spectrum, and was at least clean."
REVIEW
Fun, action filled and just a delightful read. Etiquette and Espionage is a book I would definitely recommend. The characters are people you want to know more about, the writing is something you can't get enough of and it's just a hilarious read that will have you laughing out loud. I would even recommend this book to middle school aged kids!

Absolutely not, that's what everyone with an e-reader does :-)
Great job, Brittany!
And just to give you less work next time, you only need to post one sentence with the bonus/Wow :-)

Book:Season of the Serpent by David nova
Read on July 25th
Review: this was a freebie on Kindle and unfortunately that showed - I felt about it the way I've found myself feeling a lot about self published books, which is that I can sense that there seems to be a great idea behind it all, but that the execution is lacking... So, 2 1/2 stars from me.
WoW: "...most of which was hair, a curly nest of auburn cut just above the collar."
Bonus: "...into universities and I corporations, newspapers and television networks, unions and churches, secret societies and organized crime."

I have these 3 books that I can choose from that has both the bonus and WOW!
