Steph Ann | 509 comments I like Page Sizzlin' Sisters! :)

Now all I have to do is find my S book. I moved last weekend, so I know it's in a box. The question is, which box is it in, lol.

Paris, if you have problems finding an N book, I did find one this morning, so I could switch to that if you want S.

message 52: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments More than you lnow's author is Nan Rossiter. I could do N if that helps?

message 53: by Paris (last edited Jul 19, 2013 11:57AM) (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Oh Stacey that's perfect then. You can do N. I was looking, but hadn't found a book with both in it. Thanks!

I like Page Sizzlin Sisters too. Regina any thoughts on that?

Can I just say, I think Pork is going to be the word that is the hardest. So far I haven't found much...nothing for P and R.

message 54: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Ok great. N for me.

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Okay ladies, I just realized that this game will continue over my cruise. I leave on 8/31 and come back 9/7. So I'll need someone to cover for me during that week and post our points for the word called on 8/30 and then organize who gets what letter for the word called on 9/6. I'll be on a ship for most of that time away from the internet. I will read and review my book on the 30th hopefully. Otherwise I'll try to post a review while at the airport prior to reaching Quebec or during shore time at some point if I can get online.

Please let me know if you can help out during that week. If no one can, I'll check with Jenne. I think we can post for points after the 11:59 pm deadline as long as all books were read by then so it might not be a huge deal, but I just want to be covered if possible.

Thanks!

message 56: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 509 comments I can cover for you that week, Paris. :) A cruise sounds like so much fun! I've always wanted to go on one!

message 57: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Thanks Steph Ann. I'm a travel agent and work is sending me on one. I'm really excited. We're starting in Quebec City and ending in Boston. We stop in Prince Edward Island which I'm super excited about because I've always wanted to go there and visit the world of Anne of Green Gables. We also stop in 2 places in Nova Scotia and Bar Harbor, Maine.

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments I just hit the motherload for Pork (letter P with all words except pie, but i have a K book that fits pie). I just can't seem to find any R books that have pork in them.

Other than pork, I think I'm pretty covered...although the Y in baby is kinda sparse. I really want to be covered especially for when I'm gone so y'all can just assign me a letter that works.

message 59: by Steph Ann (new)

Steph Ann | 509 comments It took me forever to find a P book for pork!

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Question about bonus word newspaper- I just read, 'that's all we need in the paper:'Woman Returns Home For Mother's Funeral and is Arrested for DUI' (pg 73).
Meaning a newspaper headline. That works, yes?

message 61: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) No I don't think it does. Sorry!

Do you all know about searching on amazon and in google docs?

message 62: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Wow in luck- on pg 74- 'maybe you and Matt should get a pet to fill your empty nest'. Point for nest?

message 63: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Woo hoo!

message 64: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Ok bonus word-newspaper.
( pg 89). It was a collection of fragile, yellow newspaper clippings.

message 65: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Those both work. And I think Jenne said in the discussion thread that if it says paper and it's obvious they are talking about a newspaper then it counts, but it has to be pretty obvious.

message 66: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Yay!

message 67: by Stacey (new)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Yes I went back and read that. Even easier to have come across the actual word;).

message 68: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Regina did you have a preference on team name?

message 69: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Non preference. :)

I Read: More Than You Know by Nan Rossiter
My Letter: N
Finished: 7/21/13
Rating: ★ ★ ★

My Review: More Than You Know is a story about three adult sisters who gather at their mother's home after she passed away. Together the girls have to arrange the funeral service while sorting through the things in their childhood hom-e and theymust sort through the emotions as well. They find there was a part of their beloved mother they knew nothing about and must process this on top of everything else while also dealing with crises in their own lives.
This book was a quick summer read and, while it wasn't a favorite for me, it was pleasant enough.

Bonus Items:
Nest: maybe you and Matt should get a pet to fill your empty nest- pg 74

Newspaper:It was a collection of fragile, yellow newspaper clippings. pg 89

Midnight Frost (Mythos Academy, #5) by Jennifer Estep by Jennifer Estep
Finished: 7/21/13
Rating: 5 Stars

I have read just about every book or novella that Jennifer Estep has out in the world. And those few that I haven’t read, I definitely plan to. Her Bigtime series is hilarious, her Elemental Assassin series is kickass, but it’s her Mythos Academy series that is my favorite. I’m sure part of that comes from my love of mythology, but this series is such a great mix of funny and kickass, not to mention Jennifer’s writing is so freaking good.

In Midnight Frost, the action picks up pretty much where we left off, although it’s a little less action and a lot more feelings and dealing with the aftermath of Crimson Frost in the very beginning. Of course the Reapers are up to their old tricks and we get to see Vivian and Agrona again. I cannot wait for the day that those two get what’s coming to them. Due to the Reapers games, Gwen and her friends have to go to the Denver Mythos Academy to collect something and it’s in Denver that we learn some very interesting information about Gwen’s father, get a nice cryptic visit from Nike and watch Gwen make another animal friend.

What I loved about this book is that it showed tremendous growth from Gwen. She’s no longer the whiney woe is me Gwen she was in the beginning of the series. Sure she gripes about her lot in life and the stuff that has happened to her because of the Reapers and her part in the Mythos world. But she takes her mission seriously and she realizes that she has to do what she has to do even if it breaks her a little to do so. None of what she’s faced with is easy, but she’s not going to back down even if Logan has broken her heart or she’s hurt and scared. This is her world and she’s going to fight to make sure that nothing happens to her or the people that she loves.

I cannot wait for the next book in the series. At the moment Estep is only contracted for one more book which is Killer Frost. There is a heck of a lot of stuff that’s going to have to go down in that book to finish this series off, but I’m looking forward to it. And if she’s able to get the okay for more in the series, then I’m ready for that too. I don’t really want to leave this world anytime soon. And I would really love to get more Logan if Jennifer’s taking any requests.

WoW Word: Nest: "...the crazy Gypsy girl who'd been stupid enough to run right into the middle of their nest." Location 2885

Bonus Word: Newspaper: "...the one Valkyrie was practically dripping blue sparks all over the newspaper the older guy sitting next to her was reading." Location 1060

Discount Armageddon (InCryptid, #1) by Seanan McGuire by Seanan McGuire

Read: 7/23/13
Rating: 3.5 stars

Review:

I'm a big fan of Seanan McGuire's October Daye series as well as the Newsflesh trilogy she wrote under her pseudonym, Mira Grant. So it should be no surprise that I really enjoyed this book. It did, however, suffer a little from "first book syndrome," with a lot of information being thrown at you, which sometimes caused me to be taken out of the action of the story. I always wanted to keep reading though. I loved the quotes that started each chapter, and I also loved the glimpses we saw of the Aeslin mice (I'm a sucker for talking animals, lol). There is definitely a lot of potential here for a great series, and I will definitely be reading book 2!

Bonus Items:

Nest - "It's not empy nest syndrome" pg 59

Newspaper - "The hallway was choked off with boxes of old newspapers" pg. 106

Regina (reginar) Hi everyone. I am heading back from camping and will post my review tomorrow. We have until what time tomorrow? Paris what is the latest that is good for you? I am off on vacation this week. With my job, normally I am on the computer all day long this week is just different due to vacation and so trying to figure out timing for tomorrow.

message 88: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments You've got time Regina (at least until midnight Central like Jenne said). On the weekdays (work days) normally I'm on Goodreads from 11 am Pacific until 7 pm Pacific and then if I got nothing going after work, then I'm on from 8 Pacific until whatever time I go to bed. Weekends are hit or miss depending on family obligations, but I'm a nerd and if there is downtime where I have the internet, then I'm usually on Goodreads. lol

Great review Steph Ann. I keep meaning to read this series. I love Newsflesh and I really liked the first in the October Daye series -- but I need to read on in that series.

message 97: by Paris (new)

You definitely should continue on with October Daye when you get a chance! The books just keep getting better!

I can take the W. That's the one I was actually secretly hoping for since it doesn't involve making a trip to the library, lol.

message 99: by Regina (last edited Jul 26, 2013 09:10AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL.

Re October Daye - I own the audio, I need to get on it! Hopefully it will fit a word challenge. ;)

My book for this week for the letter I is Fate's Edge by Ilona Andrews
Fate's Edge (The Edge, #3) by Ilona Andrews

and it has both words:

Page 20 …prince. “You were born smart but poor. You view me as…

Page 64 …and moved to the counter, keeping them in plain view ..

Page 164 …this one was of a good size, at least as large as a football
